Title: Terriers
Post by: Acetripper on Friday, September 24, 2010, 06:49:26
Hello everybody!

Another big game between our two teams tomorrow and obviously your lads will be well up for this one. League positions at this early stage don't really mean much so basically anything can happen. We certainly have better players than last season with more experience and much more skill, having said that we've not exactly gelled together properly yet but there are signs that things are improving. To date, we've looked more like a team of talented individuals so we're all hoping it'll come together pretty soon.

Clearly you have a very good side, you're at home and it wouldn't surprise me if you take all three points if I'm honest. However, we're much more capable and equipped to step up to the mark and we have players who can cause teams serious problems if you let us play. So it might all depend on how you approach the game. Teams who've done well against us have usually employed spoiling tactics where they've compressed play, closed us down and tried to catch us with quick raids. I realise Swindon always look to play good football in any case so heres to an excellent game!

Douglas'll stop you playing. Big V-unit will bang the goals in.

Hmmm...I forgot that you're almost Leeds Utd reserves! Only joking! ;)

I'll admit Douglas is a very good player at this level but we have a choice of midfielders Graham Cary, Damien Johnson, Joey Gudjonsson & Scott Arfield who are all excellent players. Plus wide players Gary Roberts, Anthony Pilkington and Lee Croft. And Allan Lee, Jordan Rhodes, Lee Novak and Joe Garner to chose from up front we have a very tidy squad. :D

I juts hope we can 'click' as a team! ::)

Yeah! In fact I live less the two miles from Elland Road. They're our massive neighbours just as Oxford are yours! ;D

Yeah! Should be a brilliant game! I'm travelling down to my mate's place in Banbury tonight and then on the game tomorrow. Thinking of travelling by train to the game but 1hr 20mins and £20 return seems an incredibly long time and silly price, might drive!  ;)

Ace, my mate is a big Posh fan and is convinced they are going to get promoted this season. You've already been beaten by them this season, did you go and what did you make of them? We are playing them soon which will be a good test as well.

Uddersfield without doubt a very stern test for Town, lets hope you have a couple sent off like you did a few seasons ago.
Not trying to be gay, but I've always liked the Terriers supporters.

That's the only game we've lost this season and what a cock-eyed game it was too! Leading and coasting 0-2 on 35 minutes we looked like we had the points secured. Then they scored in added tome just before the break - Boyd, who else? They scored again just a few minutes into the second half to level it and we just folded basically and lost it 4-2. Hardly seen such a turn around game. That said, we did exactly that last Saturday against Yeovil! I noticed 'The Posh' did something similar at home to Oldham last Saturday, trailing 0-2, scored just before the break again and then hammered them 5-2. Bizarre! :D

I think we have an improved side this season with more capable players. Lee Clark wants us to pass the ball and play with a high tempo and level of intensity. When interviewed that's more or less all he talks about. When the opposition have the ball he expects us to work our bollocks off to get it back quickly or force them into errors. And when we have it he want lightening quick passing movements to open up their defence. He reckons if we play like that we'll beat anybody in this league and I have to say, I agree with him. The problem is increasingly, other teams realise this and match us in terms of effort, then it comes down to who wants it most and ultimately, who has the better players. ::)

Yeah, I noticed that game, seems they are comeback specialists at home.

I fully expect Posh and Huddersfield to be up there come the end of the season. Hopefully we can figure in that mix as well.

FWIW I think it will be 1-1 this weekend.

We've sold our allocation of 3300 for Tuesday nights away game at Rochdale so I expect in these days when money's tight people pick their games. I guess we'll have about 700/800 at yours.

Why do I support Huddersfield Town? Well, my first season was 1959/60 so basically I'm an old git and can remember when Leeds were absolutely nothing. (just like they are now! ;)) Apart from which I was born in Dewsbury which is about halfway between the two. My dad was a Town fan in any case but Huddersfield were always renown for playing good attacking football. So much so that where I live these days some guys in my local pub who are about 70/75ish can remember when coaches used to run from pubs in the Leeds area to Town home matches. They were always Leeds fans first and foremost but they liked how we played. I guess it was like that some years ago, indeed I used go see Bradford City now and again when I was a kid!

We're not expected to win. We never are against the more fancied sides, even at home. Yet last season none of the big sides came to TCG and beat us if i recall correctly?

I'm a bit nervous about this game. Everyone knows that Huddersfield matches should be played on a Tuesday thus ensuring
  a) a minimum of northerner influx - the horse and cart journey is too long to leave the whippet at home unattended.
  b) a tiring journey for the players can result in an 'up past bedtime' tantrum a la Dean Gorre.
  c) we never* lose to Huddersfiled at home on a Tuesday. Its the law.

*ish/

This Saturday thing is just wrong

My first game in the Town End, that one.

A happy 10th birthday it most certainly was.

We broke our horrendous run without a win 99/00 at home midweek against huddersfield, before going on to beat charlton at the weekend.

My first memory of Hudders, was turning them over 4-1 in 64....front 3 of Summerbee, Ernie Hunt, and Rogers each scoring.  Have we ever had a stronger frontline? Trouble was we were a bit dodgy elsewhere, but on a given day we could destroy sides....Derby went for 4 the following week.

Another memory was beating them in 69/70....they won the league, Frank Worthington was their stand out player, he was part of a whole generation of talented English players, who basically wasted their careers due to English football's insularity.

I like the reaction of the Huddersfield fans, especially the guy in the red(ish) jumper who goes bananas at the first 3 goals. When the 4th one is scored, he looks like he's about to walk out of the ground!

The real pleasure of stuffing Udders 6-0 was that their manager was one Brian Horton

The gleeful chanting that night was

Cheer up Brian Horton
Oh what can mean
to a sad Oxford bastard
with a shit football time

and repeat

strange one that one - 'udders fans doing a conga to celebrate winning a corner on the bank and the old man and i walking out after the game feeling like we'd lost after a 6-0 romping because we'd gone completely flat after the 6th when we thought some sort of record could have been posted.

oh well, good days, walters was fantastic - has loads of bikes too after always winning motm in the league cup
