Title: Plymouths attendances Post by: Spencer_White on Monday, September 20, 2010, 20:25:17 are divebombing.
Less than 8000 for Sheffield Wednesday saturday. Im confident we will average more than them this season. Just thought Id mention this as were playing them next week and Im sure some of them will be lurking. Title: Re: Plymouths attendances Post by: Dr Pierre Chang on Monday, September 20, 2010, 20:27:13 Quite a few of them were Wednesday fans by the looks of it.
Very poor. Title: Re: Plymouths attendances Post by: Rich Pullen on Monday, September 20, 2010, 20:34:44 Six years ago they hit 20,000. Quite the decline or return to form.

The effect of nice shiny ground improvements only lasts so long and short term success doesn't mean long term club development, when you have decent crowds you need to find ways of getting as many of them hooked as possible.Title: Re: Plymouths attendances Post by: suttonred on Monday, September 20, 2010, 20:41:55 As much as I hate to say it. Reading have done that quite well (so far)
Title: Re: Plymouths attendances Post by: Rich Pullen on Monday, September 20, 2010, 20:42:41 Nothing to do with the stadium... They turned out in numbers during Sturrock's first tenure.
Excuse my possible ignorance but the feeling I got when I was living in Plymouth was that a sizable amount of people in that city were Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal fans who were pretending to be die hard Pilgrims. ...and then failure returned and the lure of Soccer Saturday was too strong. Title: Re: Plymouths attendances Post by: woolster on Monday, September 20, 2010, 20:46:05 i think its happening everywhere, watched sunderland v arsenal sat evening & the stadium of light was far from full, yet years ago you couldnt get a seat :hmmm:
Title: Re: Plymouths attendances Post by: sonicyouth on Monday, September 20, 2010, 20:49:01 What are the prices like at Plymouth? I think our attendances have remained the same/improved slightly due to the excellent ticketing incentives without which I think we'd be sinking a bit as well...
Title: Re: Plymouths attendances Post by: leefer on Monday, September 20, 2010, 20:49:16 Fact is Devon/Cornwall is finding the cash crisis situation very hard....money for football is first out the window in times of relative hardship.
Title: Re: Plymouths attendances Post by: Stegenfreud on Monday, September 20, 2010, 20:52:58 About 20 people turned up to tonights Q&A in the legends... Almost more staff and players than punters.

Won't be anymore of those for a while then! Worst case would be a club having to get rid of tickets on the cheap so the game can be broadcast, which wouldn't be a bad thing. First I heard that this was on when I saw on the OS the weekend that Ferry had replaced Timlin - I thought this may need to publicise these more I'm surei t would have been better attended though if they had Wilson in attendance Title: Re: Plymouths attendances Post by: STFC_Gazza on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, 07:39:47 I didnt go because Timlin wasn't there! ;)
Title: Re: Plymouths attendances Post by: Ardiles on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, 08:11:55 They had a boost at the time of their ground redevelopment. Went straight to their supporters' heads, as I recall. They couldn't make it last, and now they're returning to their natural level. I have always considered Plymouth to be roughly on a par with ourselves in terms of potential. As Sutton says, Reading seem to have made their jump up more permanent. There's a lesson there, somewhere.

I didn't know it was on. This is the first I've heard of it. Although I probably wouldn't have been able to go even if I had known. Was it any good? (Attendance aside)Title: Re: Plymouths attendances Post by: Saxondale on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, 08:35:12 We seem to be doing quite well in terms of attendances at the moment. 5th highest on average in the league at the moment behind sheff w, soton, charlton and hudds.
http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D2/attend.html Im sure it will come down from there but its not far from 10k at the mo. Title: Re: Plymouths attendances Post by: Summerof69 on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, 08:51:55 I cannot remembering them advertising last nights Q&A over the tannoy at the Saints game.
In regards to Plymuff's attendances, I'm not surprised. They got a bit of success, which got them bigger attendances, but now the bubble has burst, and they've gone as far as they can, the fans that jumped on the bandwagon, have stopped going. I can remember them struggling to get attendances of 5k in the last 80's/90's. Very interesting that. You wouldn't expect us to be higher than those 4 but we're actually quite a distance ahead of the rest of the teams as well. I guess we have played Brighton and Saints and Brentford at home though all of whom took a fair few. Title: Re: Plymouths attendances Post by: Batch on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, 12:03:46 I'd guess it'll probably be between 7k-8k come end of season probably. Not too bad but room for improvement.
On the players talk night thing last night, only ready about it yesterday on the OS and it was too late then. In fact this leads me to a minor gripe, a fair few good things seem to happen a little late in the day at the moment. For example, there is a couple of excellent ticket offers on now - buy two for £24 (plymouth/'uddersfield) , and season ticket holders can bring a guest to Plyymouth for half price. I only heard about them yesterday, leaving little time to sort out taking up said offer should I wish. Is it just me missing these announcements? - I should add I'm not in the habit of reading the OS regularily either (once a week or so). Maybe its that. Title: Re: Plymouths attendances Post by: DV on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, 12:23:10 Nope, I'm with you Batch.
Basically these things get posted on the OS and unless you go looking for them - you miss them. I get all this information from the TEF. I like to attend these sorts of things but hear about them after they happened. Title: Re: Plymouths attendances Post by: Saxondale on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, 12:53:30 I only found out about the ticket offer by chance (mentioned on the bbc 606 website). Great deal, very gladly taken advantage of it but it was luck that I found out. That needs to improve.
Having said that I still think we will average over 8K over the year which is good. Very true...not really checked but I get the feeling crowds are down a bit in most places this season. With the economy heading for the Coalition rocks, it will get worse before better. |
