Title: Football Skullduggery
Post by: Rich Pullen on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, 13:44:28
Another bit of self-promoting... a couple of months ago I started this blog as an archive of stuff within football which is either stupid or controversial.

It is what it is, it may be unoriginal and grammatically careless but I'm enjoying compiling the lists! It's beginning to get visitors from all over the shop which is good because I think at one point I was the only person looking at it.

I've got lots of stuff listed to go within the archive but the point of this message is a call for suggestions from you folks.

* Disallowed goals and generally poor decisions.

* Own goals

* Moments of idiocy

* Fights

* Fouls

* Handballs

* Corruption

Might have already covered this one Rich but

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FP8NFfllII

Football corruption at it's best. 5th goals is the best. Blokey makes a good tackle and remembers he isn't supposed to do that and gives the ball back to the attacker.

Excellent use of the word 'skullduggery' there.  Much under-used in my opinion.

Possible follow up blog ideas: Football Shenanigans and Football Tomfoolery - both of which could be equally entertaining.

What was that West Germany vs Austria game all about where they generally minced around making no effort to score? Something to do with stopping Algeria/Nigeria/Armenia from progressing in a WC?

That's right, they played out a draw.

Swindon had a similar issue in the 60's when Portsmouth were allowed to play in the evening of the final day of the season and secured survival at our expense.

What about the Tiger Cup (is this it's name?) in Asia where the 2 semi-finalists were so desperate to not play against whoever it was already in the final they started trying to score own goals? :)

Hmmm... I'm not familiar with that one Barry. I'll have a look, thanks.

On the own goals theme, I remember hearing about this one a while back:

http://espn.go.com/soccer/news/2002/1102/1454712.html

One of the teams got pissed off with what they thought was referee bias and deliberately scored own goals for the rest of the game. Final score 149-0.

Searched for something on the Tiger Cup game and found this. Looks interesting.

This seems to be about the match I recall.

Um. Stand-up comedy Rich?

Yeah, started doing it in February... It's going okay. I was scheduled to do 10 minutes tonight but had to pull out.

I've only done gigs in Newcastle and Durham so far but I'm planning to do a free show at Edinburgh next year.

I'll take Jo Brand :)

The walk to the mic is nerve wracking but once you get going it's great.

...a few months ago I bombed during a gig in Durham but to be honest it was just as fun.

I've not been heckled yet, I'd rather be heckled than have deathly silence!

Although the Geordies are good for banter etc. Durham students are not.

Does this count??

Turkish football is in shock after the manager of Mersin Idman Yurdu, Yuksel Yesilova, was stabbed six times by his elder brother during the team's match with Samsunspor in Turkey's second tier. In his statement to the police, Yesilova's assailant said "personal issues" were behind his actions.

There's the classic Jamie Pollock OG that condemned to Div 3 football...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAc8JooS3MY

And a few years ago there was some dodgy goings on at the end of the Polish/Romanian league, when two sides were going for the title, with the sides seperated on goal difference...both had big 8-0 victories away from home. Dodgy !!

I'm trying to find details but as yet can't find it on the net.

Cheers chaps....

... I've done the Morrocan goalkeeper. Jamie Pollock's is a favourite of mine (which isn't in at the moment) and of course the brotherly violence is suitable :)

Not sure if this counts or not. Sure we've had this worst away end in football on here before ...

Rich,

Here's the quickest sending off after 12 secs..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhGT3FIAhhQ

I'm trying to find pictures of the best sending off ever, done by Dean Gorre at the CG, whilst playing for Udds, when we won our first match for about 20 games in 2000, when we beat them 2-0.

Just found this from Morocco I think. Keeper makes a howler and is too embarrassed to carry on playing in front of his own fans so avoids all his team mates, takes off his shirt and gloves and runs down the tunnel and doesn't re-appear.

I 'think' it's the same keeper who was to busy celebrating a penalty save to realise the ball had crossed the line

Well done Rich....good site.
I have been trying to find a clip of the Newcastle player a few years back,can't remember his name now....lost it celebrating a goal...kept kicking the wooden advertising behind the goal.
Little bald feller!

I know who you mean, eastern European I think. Complete nut job. Looked a bit like Lurch (the ref).

*EDIT*

It was Temuri Ketsbaia....
