Decent manager at this level but hardly the marquee name the fans were hoping for. Personally I think they should have gone for Poyet as he is undoubtably the best manager in this league. Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 10:08:23 Nowhere near a done deal by the look of this
EXCLUSIVE: Nigel Adkins has NOT yet signed for Southampton Iron Chairman Steve WhartonSCUNTHORPE United manager Nigel Adkins has NOT yet signed for Southampton. And the likelihood seems now that he will not be going to St Mary’s. First thing today the club put out a statement saying Adkins and his right hand man Andy Crosby had agreed terms to join Southampton after talks yesterday. It was subject to the two clubs agreeing a compensation package. But Iron chairman Steve Wharton exclusively told the Telegraph that the deal had not gone through. “The situation is that Nigel and was given an ultimatum last night by Southampton to resign and accept their offer, said Wharton. “But Nigel was not prepared to do that. He wanted to walk out of Glanford Park with his head held high and everything agreed. “I have tried to contact the Southampton chairman today but have not been able to get hold of him. “I was not prepared to roll over and let Nigel leave for nothing. “I wanted some compensation for what I felt he was worth. It was only a modest amount. “From a selfish point of view I will be happy if Nigel stays with us. “But I also feel very sorry for Nigel if this was a move that he had set his heart on. “The Southampton people have been very difficult to deal with. “They are probably not the right sort of people for Nigel to be working with. “But at the moment I am not exactly sure what the situation is until I have talked further to Nigel.” Pisses me off the league allow tapping up on managers like that to happen. If you do that with a player you are in alot of trouble but with a manager it don't matter? Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Summerof69 on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 10:08:53 Not any more. SSN are reporting that Southampton wanted Adkins to 'resign' from Scunny, but he refused saying it is up to the clubs to agree a compensation package.
Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 10:11:00 They have now withdrawn the contract offer.

If you do that with a player you are in alot of trouble but with a manager it don't matter? Fully agree, but clubs should really come to an agreement re compensation before letting their manager talk to another club. Sounds to me the Saints Chairman is doing another wonderful job in regards to this Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: tans on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 10:13:00 What a bunch of cunts. Who do they think they are?

Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Matchworn Shirts on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 10:55:44 Haven't you heard, Southampton are a massive club - far too big for this division
Not Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: nevillew on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 11:46:24 I thought they were after the erstwhile 'Family Stand'.
Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Power to people on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 12:46:09 I expected Phil Brown ex Hull manager to go there - bit reputation, big ego, and unattached
I suspect the Soton fans are impressed with their chairman's ability Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Langers on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 13:05:27 How brilliant would it be if they got Gus Poyet...
Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Summerof69 on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 13:30:46 I personally cannot see how anyone could work for that dickhead of a chairman.
I did laugh a few days ago that SSN said a source at Saints said that 2 Premiership managers applied to take over at Saints, and were willing to drop 2 divisions. Bollox. Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: THE FLASH on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 13:38:44 Lawrie McMenemy?

I did laugh a few days ago that SSN said a source at Saints said that 2 Premiership managers applied to take over at Saints, and were willing to drop 2 divisions. Bollox. I heard that but thought they said 2 ex Premiership managers had applied, I too can't see anyone willing to leave the Premiersship to join them...pie in sky. Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Summerof69 on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 15:15:24 I heard that but thought they said 2 ex Premiership managers had applied, I too can't see anyone willing to leave the Premiersship to join them...pie in sky. No they said 2 managers that were working in the Prem willing to drop down...and that they 50 applications, quite a lot from managers currently employed. I personally think this 'source' probably came from the Chairman direct. Either that or they've employed Baghdad Bob. Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Gnasher on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 16:53:33 This should at least ensure they have no manager in for Saturday, at least not one that's gonna have any say over how they play. What a joke they are.
Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Nemo on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 16:56:58 Adkins deserves praise for his professionalism by the looks of it, not that the same can be said of the other party.
How much money would TEFers need to put on Poyet with one bookmaker to get the odds shortened enough to scare the shit out of a few Brightoners? Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 17:13:50 Fair play to Adkins. That's what I will say. Good news for us with Saturday in mind.

What a joke they are. What, like when Wilson was unveiled a few years ago here? He never even made the game at Orient, but the players (And the fans) responded to the news and got a great result. It'll have to be a 'yes' man...Graham Rix anyone... Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Rich Pullen on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 18:39:38 Southampton are a mess, I hope we can capitalise on it somehow. That's all.
Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 18:40:48 Adkins didn't turn them down though. He actually says he wants the job but only if compensation is paid to Scunthorpe. Apparently there is still a chance he could get the job.

Doubt it, Southampton withdrew the offer after he said he wanted to do things the right way. Obviously not the Southampton way under CorteseTitle: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Dozno9 on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 18:47:54 Just the headlines tell a story...

Sacks Pardew, seemingly because he just felt like it, who had been doing a decent job and would most likely have got them promoted. Offers the job to Adkins, then can't or won't agree a compensation package with Scunthorpe so demands he resigns. Adkins refuses to resign so he withdraws the offer. Then he offers the job to Howe who turns it down. Then offers the job to Adkins again. I'd be surprised if Adkins, or any half decent manager, would want the job now with all that shit going on. Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: pauld on Thursday, September 9, 2010, 21:53:55 Cortese seems to have turned in to a complete twat since Liebherr died. I suspect he was always a complete twat but Liebherr was perhaps restraining his worst excessesTitle: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Power to people on Friday, September 10, 2010, 14:29:03 It's taking them a long time to agree a compensation package, they will end up with someone like Paul 'Huge Ego' Ince and claim he was no 1 choice and then claim they offered the physio job to Adkins not the managers job
Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Matchworn Shirts on Friday, September 10, 2010, 15:04:43 I heard of the 2 premiership managers was Carlo Ancelotti
Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: jayohaitchenn on Friday, September 10, 2010, 15:24:49 I heard they want Charlie as player/coach.
Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Rich Pullen on Sunday, September 12, 2010, 20:41:10 Adkins has been confirmed as their new manager. His interview on the Football League Show made it quite obvious what he wanted to do.
Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Sunday, September 12, 2010, 20:50:18 Well at least they waited until after our game.
Title: Re: Adkins for Soton Post by: Batch on Sunday, September 12, 2010, 20:51:34 Not sure how I'd feel about that if I were a Saints fan. Obviously did well for Scunny, not been a league manager for that long in the grand scheme of things though.
As long as he's shit at Saints, that'll be OK. |
