Fingers Crossed!!

Be good competition across 3 areas of the pitch. I guess if we don't get a CB we'll get a good NPC one on loan.

Slightly bizarre, that as a free agent Gow can be signed at anytime, it suggests that his registration is a bit of PR spin to keep the fans happy...

Possibly... and even then, you and I know that many won't buy it.

what does that tell you about the board's view of the fans I wonder? If you read the adver pages it's full of moans regardless of what happens...

think if this is the level of our signings then mid table is the absolute best we can hope for this season and fitton must be open with the fans and adjust his 3-5 year plan accordingly. If we had adequately replaced departed key players we would have had a chance of pushing on from last year but for the moment chances of that are slim

I take it as a given that an STFC board will treat its fans with contempt....certainly has been the case for as long as I remember. The present incumbents seem a bit better than others, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions...

Can we have the old Bart back please.....mid table ....surely all the pointers are for an old fashioned relegation battle..

The last 2 seasons where we've had such a bad or even worse start start namely 00/01 and 98/99, both resulted in relegation struggles and an early departing manager.

To be fair, he's spot on with his last point.

But it's stupid writing off this signing when he has never seen the bloke play.

Title: Re: Alan Gow To Sign
Post by: Bert1981 on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 13:05:23
He seems to have done well in Scotland at the start of his career but lost his way after coming to England, mostly down to injury. If he can stay fit he might do a job for us, especially if he can play wide left.

Wilson doesn't usually get it wrong with his signings, although the jury is still very much out with Rose & Prutton!

I forgot they shortened the season to 4 games. BRB I'm off to slit my wrists! I am convinced once we get the monkey off our backs and get a win we will push on. Also with Ferry starting alongside Douglas hoipefuilly they can re-kindle the magic from last year. Fuck me I sound like I am advertising some disney film!

If this is the only signing we bring in - then I'll be disappointed.

I'll await the usual barrage of crap that follows my 'negative' posts but if you are happy with the team/squad as it is now, then you're a fucking bellend.

I agree somewhat. Midfield I think we are ok but we are desperate for a goal scorer and a decent centre back!

...and I don't recall anyone saying that they're fully happy with the current squad. Buzz words such as "potential" don't count.

Title: Re: Alan Gow To Sign

Quote
TOWN have pulled the plug on a deal to sign free agent Alan Gow following excessive demands from the Scot, the Swindon Advertiser can exclusively reveal.

The 27-year-old agreed personal terms yesterday before being shown around the County Ground, and passed a medical at the club this morning.

But the Advertiser understands Gow demanded this afternoon what sources describe as a "considerable increase" on his already-agreed basic wage.

And so furious Town chiefs have backtracked on the deal, insisting they only want to sign players who have a desire to play for the club.

Do you get the feeling that Swindon Town have been used here?

For sure. St. Mirren, Sheffield Wednesday, Hibs are all interested, Sheffield Wednesday are top of the league so dare say they will sign him now. Clearly he used us for bigger wedge at another club. Seems a bit odd travelling down here for all that. Glad that AF and DW have basically said get fucked.

Title: Re: Alan Gow To Sign
Post by: DV on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 14:16:17
Ever get the feeling that Swindon Town have been used here?

No.

I understand the cynicism but to go as far as to agree wages and complete a medical. Thats a bit too far in my opinion to go just to drum up interest.

Although I am a bit lost to at which point he would actually sign his contract. If personal terms are agreed and the medical passed, shouldnt he be signing after that?

He's clearly had an unexpected last minute offer from a better club for more money.

Who knows? I'd imagine we're paying a lot of wages out this year in comparison to last. Got to start performing soon.

I don't think we are, probably the same if not less. I get the impression Fitton has stopped paying stupid money and goes for lower wages with higher bonuses (which would have cost shit loads last season but our income was higher to cover them).

Delighted its off...obviously freed up the dosh to get Sheehan.

Not sure about that. My guess is that a deal has been on the table for Sheehan all the time with the proviso he sorted his shit out with Leeds first, even after we signed Rose. I reckon they just kept quiet about it.
