Ok so its changed to HD from today.

Got a decent size telly 32" LCD however the new Sky Sports HD Set up is only in wiedescreen so the league tables and whatever is on the left hand side of the screen now does not fit, and is half cut off. Anyone else having this problem and is it basically dont be a tight ass and get a wide screen telly.

change your picture settings to 4/3 if you have sky

If you have a widescreen tv you want 16:9 on sky.

you may need to check your TV's settings so the picture is on FULL/16:9 and not something like smart or zoom.

mine fits perfectly.

I had the same problem this morning when I turned the TV on, I flicked around with a few settings but I was still missing the league tables and everything which pissed me off.

I was more pissed off when I realised that Mike Wedderburn took up the majority of the screen instead of Natalie Sawyer or Charlotte Jackson.

Unfortunatley I dont know how to fix the problem and along with STFC_Gazza I would like some advice.

You need to change the ratio settings on your sky box rather than your TV.

Main menu > services (at the top) > 4. system setup > 1. picture settings > picture format 16:9

Thanks Berniman, I was messing about with my TV settings and getting in a right two and eight but now I can see the delightful works of Georgie, Charlotte, Natalie and Millie is full glory.

Im not watching HD, and my picture size is ok - but I cant see the "Go" of the word "Goal" in the vidiprinter. Its just irritating and i cant fix it - anyone else got this problem?

and can some please confirm if the half time scores coming in right now have a HT on the left hand side? mine is blank!

You also have to have bloody good eyesight in order to see the league tables on the right hand side of the screen, I cant work out if we are 18th or 19th.  Why change a winning formula?

I think they need to realise that not everybody has 60 inch televisions. I could barely read the score flashes coming in at the bottom. Can they not make these bigger and the picture of the presenter smaller? I am not really bothered about seeing him.

i take it those that can't see it properly are in standard definition?

all i can say is your TV's must have fucking poor standard definiteion quality.

my old 28" CRT in the back room see's it perfectly and thats 10 years old!!!

i dont have hd but my sky normal sky sevice is fine with the new format.some of you need to tweek your settings a bit.

My tv must be a similar size and age and I really struggled to see the scores coming in. What is CRT anyhow? Guessing this isn't widescreen which mine is.

CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) = old school telly. You can have a CRT widescreen.

I have to admit I only watch it in HD on a 48" tv and the quality is fucking excellent and very easy and clear to read.

It's got nothing to do with definition, the writing's just smaller. I could see it fine as it was before, then, like everything, they had to fuck around with something when there was nothing wrong with it.

Sounds like they've fucked up the SD version to me. Firstly by making it 100% widescreen and removing the 4:3 safe zone leaving some 4:3 TV viewers  not being able to see the edge, and secondly shrinking the font size.

For the first one, If you have a 4:3 TV  I guess you can always set the Sky box output to 4:3 letterbox, as 4:3ps (pan and scan) will chop the edges off. Going to get black bars' though.

For the second one, erm, get closer to the TV.

Switched my picture settings on the sky box to 16:9 and can now see the whole picture on my 28" set but difficult to read the league tables bit. I think the Top Story bit is pointless.

But if you have a 4:3 TV it will fill the screen but everything will be long and thin looking because its the wrong aspect, unless your 4:3 TV has a 16:9 mode - in which case you'll see the black bars a the top and bottom.

I was saying to a mate a little while ago that, as a truely cynical bloke, I expect Sky to implement some sort of worse SD soon, so that those of us not on HD are both more impressed by HD and less than happy with SD. You heard it here first. (I don't even know whether they could do it to be honest!) :)

Of course they could if they want to. They just reduce the bitrates down so effective less 'picture information' is sent to the box. The result is worse looking picture! However someone, somewhere would call them on that pretty quickly. There must be multiple  other ways to reduce picture quality though.

Widescreen - thankfully all my TVs are widescreen. I guess most TVs sold over the last 5 years have been. But there must be a lot of 4:3 main TV and second TV out there.

On HD - its a personal opinion for sure, but for me the £10 p/m fee is not worth it so I ditched it. I have two problems with HD myself. Firstly and most importantly I generally get engrossed in the program after 5 minutes, even when its football, I stop noticing the better HD picture.

Secondly I don't have a full 1080 set, its 768. From my viewing distance (10ft) the extra resolution would be wasted on my 42" screen. But it does make a decent fist of SD pictures, and so the Im happy with SD.

And i still reckon the difference between SD CRT->HD LCD/Plasma isn't that great in quality (but you can get bigger screens). Not as big as the leap between VHS and DVD for me

Sky taking the Mike, taking sports news off free view. What about old people they cannot aford sky ?? 

If you are with sky, I have just normal channels plus news channels. If im with them for phone,  Broadband, tv  is there any special offers i should be looking at to improve my viewing.  If i contact them can i improve my package without paying more. Any one know, anyone know any Sky offer codes.  :D

Threaten to leave and if you have been with them long enough they will reduce your bill for a 6 month period.  Be prepared to leave though if they don't.

Agreed, I phoned them and said what can you do for me and they offered me 25% off my TV package for 6 months.

They could put it out on ITV3. That does a very effective job of completely destroying picture quality in my experience.

I've got a 22" HD tv and it's impossible to read anything on the right hand side of the screen. But I'm nearly blind anyhow.
