Title: Things to do in Bath Post by: Langers on Monday, August 9, 2010, 09:39:34 Hi all,
I am going away with some family for a weekend in Bath, can anyone suggest any things to do, places to visit etc. Preferably suitable for a broad range of ages. Cheers. If you all fart at different times then you can prolong the jacuzzi effect, albeit less intense. Cheers. Shopping isnt too bad. Could always do an open top tour bus job of the city. Title: Re: Things to do in Bath Post by: Ginginho on Monday, August 9, 2010, 10:04:45 Could always do an open top tour bus job of the city. If you get a few of you, take a fake trophy and wave it about at the top of the bus to try and trick the locals into thinking a local team have won a trophy! See how many "fans" you get following the bus. Title: Re: Things to do in Bath Post by: Gnasher on Monday, August 9, 2010, 10:07:51 Can't miss an opportunity to big up my home town....
There's the usual town centre attractions like the baths, parade gardens and the abbey. Like most Bathonians, I've never been to the baths or abbey so can't comment on what they're like! Outside town, there's Dyrham Park - a NT manor house, plus lots of walks over Lansdown. You could take them to see Twerton Park stadium if you're really bored. Original - he definitely wouldn't have thought of those two :) Title: Re: Things to do in Bath Post by: Langers on Monday, August 9, 2010, 10:09:13 Shopping isnt too bad. About £7-8 per pasta dish and most starters about £5
Title: Re: Things to do in Bath Post by: Bogus Dave on Monday, August 9, 2010, 16:18:18 There's loads of street parking just outside the town center.
Play spot the red brick building instead, hours and hours of fun. I wouldn't go on the bus tour, unless you have an otherwise busy day. Baths really not that big a city, and most of the big 'attractions' are all reasonably close to each other. The skyline tour might be alright though, takes you up just out of the city into the hills where the views are quite decent. Also takes you into the university bus circle and bemuses everyone, for no apparent reason whatsoever. And like others have said. Pubs. Lots and lots of pubs Title: Re: Things to do in Bath Post by: 4D on Monday, August 9, 2010, 17:16:59 You could pop round Dave's house for lunch
Title: Re: Things to do in Bath Post by: broomfield on Monday, August 9, 2010, 17:40:33 If the weather is crap and you don't fancy the park and ride, we have a new 700 space car park below the new Southgate Shopping Centre. It isn't cheap, but then again no park here is!
Alternatively, try the train, it's 30 mins from Swindon and our station is only a few minutes walk to the City Ctr. If the weather is ok, There is usually quite a bit of 'on street' entertainment going on. Or alternatively, if you fancy it, you can always verbally abuse the foreign tourists, especially the kids. They're right little s**ts! Title: Re: Things to do in Bath Post by: Bogus Dave on Monday, August 9, 2010, 17:48:33 A fun little game is 'try and get into as many japanese photographs as possible'. More interesting if you try and pull different poses each time
Title: Re: Things to do in Bath Post by: Jamiesfuturewife on Monday, August 9, 2010, 17:58:47 That new Hall & Woodhouse pub is proper nice - well I think it is!

Title: Re: Things to do in Bath Post by: A Gent Orange on Monday, August 9, 2010, 18:14:54 Agree with what everyone has said. Just walk around - and remember to look up as there are lots of interesting details - the Masonic symbols on the houses of the Circus and the vast statue of Victoria on the side of the art gallery. Also a quick walk along the canal beyond Pultney Bridge and back to Widecombe as some time in Victoria Park is always good.
Oh and the pubs. The pubs are as good as you will find anywhere - and on the whole very close together. Title: Re: Things to do in Bath Post by: Pete on Monday, August 9, 2010, 19:18:38 I love wandering around Bath when I have some spare time. 20 minutes on the train its good for shopping, sightseeing, pissups etc.
Title: Re: Things to do in Bath Post by: pumbaa on Monday, August 9, 2010, 19:41:54 Jamie Olivers restaurant, good food and not over priced. About £7-8 per pasta dish and most starters about £5 Samdy and I can testify that the Prawn Lingiuni is the mutts nuts. Love Bath, always have. Just spoiled by too many fucking tourists. As many have said, loads of decent pubs, good range of restaurants for all tastes and pockets, theatre, Victoria Park, Abbey, Roman Baths, Pulteney Bridge, Prior Park Gardens, decent shops. If you're there for a weekend, head to Green Park station for the Farmer's Market on Saturday am and pop into the Green Park Brasserie for the Farmer's Breakfast. Title: Re: Things to do in Bath Post by: 4D on Monday, August 9, 2010, 20:19:05 If you're there for a weekend, head to Green Park station for the Farmer's Market on Saturday am and pop into the Green Park Brasserie for the Farmer's Breakfast. I used to have a beverage or two in the Green Park Tavern, I don't think it's there anymore though (I may be wrong?) Title: Re: Things to do in Bath Post by: Bogus Dave on Monday, August 9, 2010, 20:22:49 It IS still there. About 5-10 minute walk from where pumbaa is on about though

Yum. Green Park station. Former northern terminus of the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. Probably one of the most demanding (on locos) and scenic railways in the country. Now sadly just a Sainsbury's and a road named after Ivo Peters who photographed the line from end to end over many years. Fuck. I am turning into Reg  Title: Re: Things to do in Bath Post by: ibelieveinmrreeves on Monday, August 9, 2010, 23:35:20 Yum. Green Park station. I am turning into Reg  I love finding out about this stuff - particularly Green Park as I always thought it looked like a railway station but just couldn't envisage there being tracks there or anything. I read about another station in Bath, in the Weston area a little while ago. I think I may be a secret train nerd. Title: Re: Things to do in Bath Post by: A Gent Orange on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, 06:05:01 Twerton station closed years ago but you can still see it from the mainline and it is actually Grade II listed. That's my station fact.

More interesting if you try and pull different poses each time I've done this in London before, my record is 16. I will have to try and beat it in Bath. Slug and Lettuce. Crap chain pub, no better than a Wetherspoon (but twice the price). Title: Re: Things to do in Bath Post by: Batch on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, 11:49:55 Slug and Lettuce.
