We missed Paynter and Ward alot more than we missed Greer in fact I don't think we missed Greer at all we just lacked abit of creativity in the final third and last time I looked I don't remember Greer doing that job.

The referee was a shocking homer for the first half an hour and then became just generally rubbish. Moan as much as you want, until he blocked that pass right at the end, he was completely rubbish for both of us. Rubbish display, he didn't deserve his page in the programme today.

Greer will be a superb player for us, to replace El-Abd in the centre of our defence. But come on. This is league 1! League 1 defenders do the things that you saw ours do today. This is competitive, professional football being played by men. Accept that, and grow up. Douglas and Prutton are the dirtiest central midfield pairing I've ever come across, so don't pretend you were innocent in todays game, both teams were giving it and both teams were getting it. It was a fair game, a hard game, but a fair game. El-Abd chopped Pericard in half, but it made absolutely no difference. Pericard is tosh. Ankergren (wanker) took out Austin, but you scored from that free kick anyway, so that's justice done. It was a fair game, but not one for the purists.

You need a new striker, and you could probably do with another centre back too. And start playing Ferry instead of Prutton, the man is an animal. Kevin Amankwaah and Lescinel Jean-Francois were superb, and JP McGovern is a brilliant player at this level. Keep today's game in perspective, all the best for the season.

Southampton and Huddersfield's attacking options piss all over ours! We're strong in centre midfield and our full backs are very good.

I don't think our fans think our squad is all that great, although the quality of football Poyet had us playing last season was great.

practically out of play? ummmm are you visually challenged? he's rounded the keeper and would have had the relatively simple task of rolling it in, much like your second. And the defender are coveing argument is rubbish as it doesn't necessarily apply to keepers as the law says denying a goalscoring opportunity. The keeper being out of play makes it by definition a goal scoring opportunity.
By you logic defenders who are the 'last man' should never be sent off as the keeper is still in front of the ball....

Visually challenged? I am quite difficult to look at, yes. Also, consider my view. I was right at the other end, so maybe my opinion is doubly flawed, considering my blue and white striped shirt! The goalkeeper is a normal player out on the pitch, if there's a player behind then it's not a "professional foul" and therefore it is a yellow card, not a red one. Didn't Danny Wilson say as much himself? I saw something on our forum suggesting he had.
That's not what I'm saying at all, but the goalkeeper did have players behind him (I think, I might change my mind when I see it on the Football League show), so I think that has to come into consideration. I wouldn't have moaned about the red card, don't get me wrong, I think we've been very lucky. But I can understand the referee's opinion in giving a yellow card and not a red one.

Let me make it quite clear I like Swindon fans and I wasn't trying to annoy anyone, maybe I thought you'd except opposition fans like we do on NSC.

However, by the time Austin has been taken down and you change your attentions to look where the defenders are they appear behind the play because they've kept in motion whilst Austin is going down.

Plus, if they were behind - then surely there wasnt the need for wankergran to come rushing out.

Either way, Austin rounded the keeper and had an open net to roll the ball into, if that isnt a goal scoring opportunity then I dont know what it.

Ultimately though, Austin did score, so justice was done there. If Smith could have taken Sparrow out before he rolled us into a 2-0 lead, wouldn't you have wanted him to? I think you would, I know I would.

You say its justice and in a way you are right, but thats still 10 minutes plus 5 injury time with an extra man - doesnt always help but you never know.

Sparrow was slightly different, as Sparrow was inside the box so it would have been a penalty and a with the ref probably a red card to.

This is football, you just never know. You were unlucky today, but we were unlucky at the County Ground last season. Our poor finishing last season cost us atleast a draw that day, if we're all being honest. This is the difference in us this season, we narrowly won a close game. Last season, we narrowly lost it.

Think about a foul on the edge of the 18 yard box, keeper in his net - the keeper is covering the defender right?...defender always walks though. Or for x amount covering, there could be several covering the posts, but if they are on the posts they aint gonna cover the centre of the goal are they. People need to look at several factors before saying red or yellow not just 'oh but there were 17 billion beyond the foul covering'.

It was hard to get a good perspective of the Ankergren incident from the far end but it looked like Austin was going away from goal. At the end of the day it comes down to the refs opinion and he felt yellow. Amanwankah could have got sent off for lashing out at Bennett anyway.

El abt's challenge was by far the the most redcardworthy event in the game.

I can understand why the ref could bottle it and not send wankergran off, but there was simply no excuse for not sending El Abt off.

I disagree, I respect what you're saying and understand your point. But I think the key point about the whole thing, is that the referee was hopeless and bottled sending him off. We can talk about rules as much as we like, and debate the point.. but ultimately, the referee's decision was probably based on not wanting to send someone off. Might I suggest the linesman was on that side and should have helped the ref?

Ninja Elephant... fair play for reasoned and intelligent posts but I can't agree re: The County Ground game last year - you could easily have got a draw but we missed chance after chance at 1-0 and could have been 3 or 4 up before you created those two late chances which were both fluffed.

After watching it again and again and pausing my sky plus I'm not certain.

Cuthbert is late coming out but its alot closer than I originally thought. He's onside before the ball is played and offside after the ball is played but I cant seem to exactly pause it at the exact moment the ball is actually kicked.

I've repressed much of the match, and I can't remember too much of the first half. But I do remember all the chances we wasted toward the end, it was all right in front of my in the Arkells. I'll never get over Liam Dickinson hitting the side netting, when scoring was easier. That was thoroughly disappointing. Today we were lucky, so in my mind it has balanced out. I know that's irrational, but that's football!

I can't agree about that, obviously! It seemed onside to me at the time, and having seen it just now on the Football League show, I still think it was onside. But then, I'm a Brighton fan. So it's easier for me to see it!

To be honest, I have more reason than most to be balanced. A good friend of mine is a Swindon season ticket holder, and we talk mostly about football! So I've been kept abreast of events at the County Ground for the last 5 years or so. That, and the fact that I'm a bit of a footballing whore anyway. I'm a fan of the game, as well as Brighton. I follow quite a few teams with an interest, yourselves being one of them. I'm a bit unusual.

It'll be nice to have a proper ground for away fans to visit. It is embarrasing that we play where we do, and it's even more embarrasing that we've been without a proper home for 13 years now, it'll be 14 when we kick off at Falmer. And it's even MORE embarrasing that we might not start next season with a home game, because the Gay Pride parade is always this weekend!  :gay: But then, you'd expect us to have that sort of problem!

Hopefully, we'll meet in the play-off final, rather than the semis. The relationship I have with my friend is pretty much recovered now, but I'm not sure it could bear the strain of another play-off duel... so on second thoughts, I'd rather we didn't meet in the play-offs!

Please don't mention it... I am still not quite over Withdean 04.

Yep, he wasn't very popular here either. That's right, he went to Greece until they sacked him. So he had a go in Scotland, but TWO of their clubs deemed him unsuitable. He recently appeared on our North Stand Chat forum (it was deffinitely him, it was all verified), answering questions about his time here and certain incidents! Bizarre turn of events.

We started last season at home to Walsall (they didn't have a shot on goal ALL game, and beat us 1-0.. work that one out), because Pride was a week later than usual. But they've confirmed that the event will be the same day as the football league opening day next season. There's an "understanding" with the FA though, that clubs with new grounds start at home. Note Chesterfield today. But we can't start at home with Pride, because there won't be enough police there.

If it had been the other way around, I would always hate you too. I was there that night, it is the 2nd greatest night I've had at the Withdean. And now I'm getting all nostalgic... beating Cheaterfield 1-0 to win the old Division 3.. beating Man City on penalties... getting waterlogged SKIN it was so wet one friday night when we lost 4-3 to Rochdale... when a HOLE opened up in the pitch against Hartlepool, and we had to fill it with sand, delaying the game about 10 minutes...

I'm not sure if it's a hard and fast rule, but our chairman, mr Bloom, said that we would have asked, and been granted, a home game on the opening day if it wasn't for Pride. They're not run by a Brighton-based company, so there's no chance of them moving it, which is a shame but there's nothing we can do. I wouldn't want any team coming here that day anyway... I don't think the opposing fans would ever quite get over seeing the Royal Pavilion decked out in pink.
