Your no 3, the winger, was by far your best player. Streets ahead of that no 2 who was caught out a few times by our forwards.

I'm loving the positive LJF comments because that was my main concern before today. And the bloke can only get better with a regular run in the side along side Scotty. The rest of the side will sort itself out. You can play as many friendlies as you like but you can only really judge players on competetive games and it takes a little while to get things in place. We've got far more talent in this squad than this time last year and I trust Danny Boy 100% to sort it out.

He's been a Manager for 802 games for a reason. I loved his post-match press conference. He exuded confidence and experience and I couldn't help but compare it to the 'make it up as you go along' ramblings of the Smoking Chimp. I think what I'm saying is, I'm fucked off as hell but I still think we're going to have a great season.

LJF was MOM today no question. If he plays like that every game he'll be player of the season.

You lads seriously need an out and out striker. Anyone half decent would have buried the chances given. Your wingers played well and have got a bit of pace too which scares defenders. Pretty good at closing down and forcing silly mistakes. Thought you could have been a bit more inventive moving out from the back considering the talent you've got in the middle. Your keeper does like to hoof it.

Overall my heart says thank fuck we've beaten you, my head says that we rode our luck at times and a draw would have been fairer. But this is footie so logic and rational thought go through the window!

MoM is a stupid thing done as part of matchday sponsorship...the people who pick are often either pissed or don't know who the players are.

A mate had his company doing one last season and he told me who would be MoM before the game!

You're wrong, the chap who scored 2 brilliant goals from midfield was by far the best player on the pitch today. For you, it was obviously Lescinel, though he might have had a better game out of Murray, rather than Barnes. He looked better at centre back than at left back though.

In contrast I was just about to praise your keeper's distribution and how it didn't predominantly involve him kicking the ball through to our keeper.

Good post, but then it's easier to pick out the decent ones amongst all the shit. Mabye not on here, but elsewhere!
I think both sets of fans can be in agreement that the officials were shit. Lots of needless freekicks to either side. Having said that, you've got a dirty streak in that team. Some nasty challenges at times.

Ref was very weak in dealing with some quite harsh and late tackles - Brighton picked up on that - we didn't.

When our 2 centre backs are our best players is it any surprise we came away with no points. Unfortunately Brighton got it tactically spot on with their spoiling tactics and our midfield was non-existant. JPM worked hard as usual but nothing was really coming off.

1 other think I have noticed, our movement and urgency from throw-ins and sometimes in general is non-existant. At one stage with about 5 minutes to go, Rose took about a minute to take a throw as nobody wanted the bloody ball. I thought Brighton's movement and ball retention from throw ins was infinately better than ours.

To be honest, I don't think it was our intention to do that. The general idea is to work the ball through midfield up to Barnes up front, but he was having a bit of a shocker if we're being honest, and we were finding it hard to work the ball through your midfield. We cancelled each other out a little bit, which I was a bit disappointed about considering we had 3 in the middle and you only had the 2. It wasn't a great performance from us in any way!

Our centre backs played well partly because of their system. One up front meant that LJF was the spare man. The fullbacks both had wingers to deal with but with Cuthbert on Barnes, LJF had no direct opponent, hence being able to mop up at the back and bring the ball out. 

mr orange, i can think of quite a few occasions where a big punt down the middle from brighton meant that it was ljf with barnes alone. it's from these scenario's i think he did really well and didn't allow barnes a sniff

It's funny how opposing fans views of the game differ.  Swindon fans keep saying "Brighton's spoiling tactics didn't allow us to play"  whereas Brighton fans are saying "Swindon's spoiling tactics didn't allow us to play, we just had that added bit of quality in Sparrow!"

All that matters is the result though.  It was an even game between 2 evenly matched sides.  A good measure of how far we have come in the last 7 months or so.  And just to make the point - our 2nd was clearly onside having seen the replay!  :wink:

I didn't think there were any spoiling tactics on show, we were just toothless in attack. At the end of the first half the ball was in your half of the field for about 5 minutes straight but we failed to create a decent opening from it. My main problem with Brighton was that two or three players 'got away' with challenges worthy of red cards or second yellows - I'd be very disappointed to see a Swindon player put in a challenge like El-Abd did on Pericard... but that's largely the ref's fault for not punishing them - Ankergren being the most obvious example.

We didn't deserve anything the way we played. Hopefully we can pick up the performance against Orient and put Saturday behind us like we did last season.

The ref let a couple of ours go too, JPM's early wild slide would have seen a booking by a fair few refs. He didn't connect with his leading foot, but it was reckless none the less. In short the ref was plain shite.

I don't think anyone is complaining about the result as such. I though Brighton were a bit sharper and dominated the midfield. But chances were at a premium and so a draw would have probably been a fairer reflection.

That's fair enough.  The Ankergren incident was controversial.  I know it is a cliche but things even themselves out throughout the course of a season.  You may feel unlucky with certain refereeing decisions this time, but next time things may just go your way!

Hardly touched him, knowing how flimsy boots are these days and how sensitive toes can be - I can see why the minimal contact hurt but there was no need to jump up in the air like he did. He was trying to get JPM booked there.

Yes I know what he did and how much contact was made. It was a wild slide in that he got nowhere near the ball. Yes the player looked for it. Other refs would have given a yellow. In fact Greer got sent off for less last year.

On the game, i think a draw would have been a fair result, but as much as it pains me to say, Brighton, despite not being at their best, much like ourselves, look a good side and will be tough to beat.

I'm not gunna get the razorblades out just yet, as we all know what happened the last time we started off the season badly!

In Wilson i trust, and i am confident the likes of Ball, Rose and Prutton will be huge signings for us. They need time to adapt to our style of play. As soon as they do, we'll be laughing!
