We really needed a full pre-season out of this two but no, the board made us wait and now they go into the squad without the chance to gel. No word on the Bolton lot either, pull your finger out Fitton.

Well Ferry doesn't have to gel, and they are as fit if not fitter than ours already due to playing in the states, can't see it's a problem.

I havent seen much of Caddis, but I think Ferry is a top top top player as is Cuthbert, hopefully Caddis is just as good as these two.

I am going to stick my neck out and say that Caddis will make more impact than Ferry.

This guy can cross the ball as well if not better than JPM from what I have seen so we are going to have some ammo for Austin and Dossevi (should he sign). I am feeling confident, bring on Brighton on Saturday, can't wait to see us in action.

Now we have to worry about playing these players. Do we rotate Ferry and Prutton? JPM and Caddis? Do we play Caddis and JPM on either wing? Do we play caddis at RB, or LM? Or JPM at LM and Caddis at RM? This is exciting! I think i'm gonna piss my pants. :D

It's great news, and looking back at this time last season, our squad is scarily good. Strength in Depth. My only slight concern is CB, but apart from that, we have the players that can really achieve something here. Obviously, expectations have now risen and I hope fans don't get on players back straight away. Oh and fans getting too carried away before a ball has been kicked- Gazza...

Anyhow, I don't think Prutton will start, and Manky, unluckily/undeservedly, will also be dropped.

Whoever starts, we have a fucking good bench that contains players who'd be well in the first team of lesser L1 teams. I think its what we were missing last season, squad depth and any players off the bench that could change the game. Pericard? No. O'Brien? No. Timlin? No. Easty? Maybe.

Its just a bummer we cant field a team of 15 then we could play them all.

The first thoughts that came to this Swindon fans mind:

Hope the board know what they are doing and not risking the club future will these cash buys. I heard the Celtic pair have come in on top money. I love to go up but I don't want to risk the future of the club if we fail to get promotion. Don't get me wrong loving all the new signings and think we gave a great chance... this year. But it not like your find an extra 5,000 people turning up each week if we are doing well. I just fear for the club if the money men walk away!!

They're not likely to be on a huge whack seeing as they are only young. I recon they've probably just split what was going to be given to Paynter (to make him the top earner) between the two, and then the club would probably have some left over.

McGovern can play on the left, Prutton can play on the right which means Ferry & Douglas could play in the centre.

Caddis can play at right back.

I've heard Caddis can cover all these positions but I have only seen him play wide right once, on TV. He can play left wing I'd play him over O'Brien.

I think Ball would be wasted out wide.

jpm on the left with prutton on the right and thats my team. O'Brian is a decent sub but not a starter imo

i would agree with that team i cant see ferry or caddis starting saturday, would probably come off the bench for the last half hour depending on how well were doing.

i would give o'brien a go because he deserves his chance he has come through pre-season healthy so lets give him a chance.

I did debate playing Caddis right and JPM left - but I think its stupid to take the best and most creative right winger in the division and move him left.

I've no doubt he would do a decent job but if it isnt broke. Plus he and Manks link up well

The side that started against Forest (except for Charlie starting) will be roughly the starting 11 for Saturday. Whether Ferry and/or Caddis will come in I do not know, but it's a nice dilemma to have.

Hasn't Ball pretty much exclusively played left wing in pre season, and didn't Wilson state clearly that he wants him to play that position to keep him away from the ugly side of League one in the centre?

He may be listed as a forward at Man City, but he's still young and learning, meaning he'd probably be just as effective out wide given his technical ability.  Ward was hardly ineefective was he, and Wilson see's similar traits in the two.  He also seems to want someone upfront with a bit of presence to let Austin play off.  I'd see Pericard as starting or Dossevi if he signs.  Looks to me that Ball will be essentially wide left for us unless injuries or a lack of form upfront push him inside due to necessity.

I think Danny will use Tuesday nights game against Orient to field a much changed team, to ease the dillema (albeit a good one) a bit. Against Brighton I think it will be mainly the line up that started against Forest.

I don't think Ferry or Caddis would walk into the team. Prutton and Amankwaah both played well against Forest, Big Kev's link play with J-P is immense at times. My prediction is against Hartlepool Ferry will be in the starting eleven with Prutton, Douglas, J-P and Ball in a five man midfield. Austin up top on his own and Amankwaah to keep his place ahead of caddis who will have to make do with being a super sub for a while  :hmmm:

Yep...said that about Ward but used him sparingly at times...hes young and no experience,think v Brighton he will be on the bench first up.

One thing Ball has over Ward is that he's had a pre-season with the team, one thing Ward didn't.

I have no doubts Ball will start, unless he's injured in the next week.

Two poor signings. Money could have been spent elsewhere. Personally think we should have used that money for the wages of a player like Marlon King who will take the piss in this league.  :no:

I will give the benefit of the doubt and assume sarcasm is at work here .....

We are now building towards a strong squad where unlike towards the end of last season when we had injuries and we strugled at times we really will have strength in depth, I think we just need another striker and a centre back and this squad will be as strong if not stronger than last season - on paper at least.

It shows the trust and faith that Fitton has in Wilson allowing him to spend £350,000+ - is this the last year of Wilson's contract ?

Just look at St Johnstone, they've signed Sam Parkin and Scott Dobie, who are pretty much out of their depth in League 1 these days.

I am really surprised how many don't include Caddis in there first 11, with all due respect to Big Kev he is not as good as Caddis.  In Caddis we are talking about a player who ran Hinkel close as Celtics first choice right back last season, Caddis didn't come here to sit on the bench he could of stayed at Celtic for that.  Caddis is a very talented player, ask most Celtic fans and they rate him higher than Ferry and Cuthbert so him playing for us this season is a mouth watering prospect.

Both Wilson and Fitton deserve huge thanks for the ambition they are showing, we add couple more squad players and I think we will give anyone in this division a run for there money this season and automatic promotion is a real possibility.

The SPL is a shambles. Hibs losing 3-0 to Slovenian opposition and Celtic getting spanked by a reasonable Portuguese team shows how bad things are up there.

I agree, think Caddis has potential to be a big player for us this season but would expect Kev to start against Brighton as I imagine Wilson will want to give Caddis a bit of time to get to know the players and the system etc...

One thing these signings do give us is so many more options to rotate players, especially given Caddis' postional versatility. Being able to give the likes of Douglas a rest in some games will likely be possible this season, hopefully leaving them fresher for the run in if it's as tight as it was last year.

I have never seen Caddis play and know nothing about him other than he's small and Scottish.
It would seem he's pretty good by all accounts, but we all know Big Kev in assured at right back and dangerous going forward, so i'd pick Amankwaah over Caddis at right back to start with.

Probably because none of us have seen him play.

I think he's been bought in as a winger, personally.
