I am going to see a David Bowie tribute band at 12 Bar in August, wanted to know who do you think are good tribute bands?
I have only seen a couple and they where pants

There was a good Queen one at Melksham "Party in the Park" on saturday. They were a bit out of time on Bohemian Rhapsody though  :hmmm:

My friend had a good Beatles one for her wedding a couple of weeks ago - they even spoke in fake scouse accents!

Was it the bootleg beatles per chance? One of them is a family friend of ours.

Ummm no Don't think it was them? Someone said they came from Wales??

Limehouse Lizzy are very good if you like thatsort of thing.

In fact they are now probably better than the official version of Thin Lizzy that do the rounds

I judge tribute bands on their names... the Faux Fighters, Oasish and Clone Roses being amongst my favourites. I did notice the other day that the Kings of Lyon have already got going too

Tribute bands are very hit and miss, some tribute bands actually sound better live than the band they are covering when they play live because the tribute bands play the recorded version of the songs so they do their utmost to sound near identical to the recorded song.

When you go to see the actual band they dont try to sound exactly the same as the recording and most fans dont want them to either.

But, and its a big but, some bands just sing the band songs to the best of their (often obviously) poor standard.

Find the name of the band and google them, almost every tribute band have a web site where you can hear them/read write ups and reviews on them.

I saw The Bootleg Beatles at Glastonbury a couple of years ago and can highly recommend going to see them if they are in and around your local town.

Although I have never seen them apparently The Rolling Clones are pretty good and I think one of the band members if not all of them are Devizes based.

The Bootleg Beatles are the best live band I have ever seen. Just incredible, first set is ok but when they start strawberry fields and onwards it is breathtaking.

Who I think are now the Rolling Zones, I know Keef!

Limehouse Lizzy are a very good night out.

My favourite, who I saw at the Portsmouth Beer Festival a few years ago were the Red Not Chili Peppers - they had the music bang on, but were all skinny teenagers and kind of spoiled it when the stripped off their tops!

I've always wanted to see them.  One day my good lady might just get the birthday hint.

just do it billy, they have an orchestra backing them and it just simply takes your breath away.

I've heard of George Formby, but I don't know who you're talking about.

In my experience,just not worth paying to see.

Is it Absolute Bowie?

I saw a Madness tribute band at 12 Bar earlier this year (I can't remember which one, there are loads). They were very good.

Don't hate me but I saw T-Rexstasy at the Wyvern a few weeks back. Completely awesome, probably better than Bolan hisself. 'Jeepster' was stunning.

hot fuss killers tribute band were pretty good as were the antarctic monkeys both at 12 bar....want to see oasish and stereotonics but aint been around when they've been in town

The only live music venue in Sutton, is the Boom Boom club at the football ground, It's run by an old hippie who only likes 60's music and tribute bands, so Limited choice without travelling for me until the old fucker pegs out. Saw that Absolute Bowie though and they were superb, also seen an ELO trib band who were pretty good, but I forget the name now.

Green date are always a laugh.

Straighten Out (Stranglers tribute) are playing Bar 12 soon.

Therefore the Welsh band By Jovi must be right up there!
