Just got a text from Swindon Town, as i've subscribed to all transfer updates from the site, it reads:

"Manchester City striker David Ball is set to complete the paperwork this afternoon on a loan deal at Swindon Town until January 12."

Not a season long loan then?

I have this feeling that Ball could be an option on the left. When Danny Ward left us, Wilson said he deliberately didn't want to put a young inexperienced kid up front as there was too much pressure on him whereas wide left he could be introduced gradually to the pace & physicality of the league 1 game.

Cant see us starting with Austin & Ball up front in the first game somehow

He might be two footed like Ward? Ward was a lefty, but scored a fair few with his right cutting in.

OK I admit, i have no idea whether he is right footed, a leftie or has a dick like a donkey that he can use to dribble straight up the middle. All I'm saying is that going by past form, Wilson is unlikely to play him up front from the start.

Maybe we'll go with Austin up front on his own, JPM tucked in behind & Ball on the right.

Or maybe the end of the world is nigh, we'll sell them all and be left without a club. Oops, wrong thread.

I think pre-season will determine who gets the nod for the first game, so it's too early to say. Whilst Wilson may have wanted to keep the pressure off Ward, Ball is a bit older and if he comes in and grabs goals against Panathanaikos and Forest then he's likely to be a contender to start alongside Charlie Austin for the Brighton game.

the fact he's here and wants to come on tour with us shows he wants to be playing football, like the Ferrys and Wards of last season.

Lets hope his talent matches his enthusiasm.

Not sure quite how I feel about this.....I feel a bit gutted for him in lots of ways as he really was on the verge of things at the first swamp derby and his injury came at the worst possible time.

Good experience for him and a decent manager to work with but is this the beginning for one of our decent academy prospects of the beginning of the end? I fear the latter

For David Ball surely this is a good move and hopefully the beginning of something good and not the beginning of the end.

IF he has got what it takes he will be a success at Swindon and either come back to City and get a chance or get another move ( loan or permanent) to somewhere else and probably a higher standard.The alternative for him is he stays at City and maybe doesn't get any real chances to shine in the first team and basically stagnates.And I don't call getting on the bench and a possible Carling Cup much of a chance.

The only way to see what these guys are really all about is loaning them out or playing them in the first etam and the latter is extremely unlikely.

Agree with this. We have to do this as much as possible imo. We're a different club now to the one which could play lots of kids & if we don't give them games we'll ruin them. Only exceptional ones will get a game & even then maybe not enough games to help them improve. We have to treat them fairly or none will come in the future.

If any of these kids are good enough to play for City, then they'll be as impressive for their loan teams as a potential signing would be & make us take notice. If not we can let them get on with their careers as soon as possible rather than waste their time

i thought we played ward out on the left because we had paynter and charlie scoring goals every game and we never had a natural left sided player which i thought ward was.

so i dont think it was because DW thought he was inexpierenced he just didnt have many other options

I think Ward is a striker by trade, and he was quality on the wing, why cant ball be?

He sounds as if he wants to play for us, which is a great sign.

I still feel we could do with another striker though.

If this Man City fan's opinion is worth anything then we could be in for some more loan-youngster-from-a-bigger-club-type-enjoyment;

What I like about him the most though is his ability to control and hold the ball to make space for himself and his teammates,he plays with a maturity and skill rare for his age.
I will certainly follow his and your progress this season and of course GOOD LUCK!"

I know Ward was naturally left footed, but from the games i saw him in, he seemed to cut in more, rather than try and beat the defender to cross.

from the two wingers you want one to go outside and deliver or cross early, like JPM, and one to be more direct and cut in towards goal, like Ward last year, so Ball there would work.

David ball will be the player were all talking about after the next few games. He is a fantastic young player and very highly regarded at man city, he will take this league by storm scoring bucket loads on the way!!
We will be top of the league by christmas.

First impressions, not quick enough.

Lost the ball too much yesterday. When you sign these players from Prem youth and reserves sides they are not used to the amount of pressure opposition defenders put you under. Theres much less space, much more pressing. Hes going to have to be much more determined to keep the ball.

He would do well to watch Austin, who very rarely concedes possesion.

I'm sure he will come good. Was probably a bit of a shock to the system but once he gets up to the pace of it, all will be fine.

Hesitated too much on the edge of the box, but then he wasn't alone in that. Think he got a bit of a shock yesterday tbh - he'll get used to it, then we'll see whether he can be another Wardy. Seem to remember Ward took a few games to adjust initially, he wasn't always the scoring dynamo we remember from the back end of the season

Doesn't have a left foot. Is going to be wasted playing on the left by the look of it.

It amazes me that people are saying that about him already. He had a left foot against Forest and nearly scored.

He was poor yesterday but they all bloody were. To get the best out of him we need Rose overlapping so they both cause problems and he can then have a choice.

Yesterday he created loads of space played in Rose who decided insted of boxing it to play it back to Ball who at this point had 2 men.

What I found frustrating was that Ball had 4 or 5 openings down the left, then when O'Brien came on, he only had 1, when he headed the ball out of play.

I liked our tactic of trying to take Ball off twice as well, very crafty!
