Is it illegal to tow a car by rope? My dad thinks it is, i have no idea, i've tried to find out on the net but cant find a definitive answer,

What needs towing anyway? Does your breakdown service not cover it?
my old heap of shit, just taking it to the rents, as im on residential parking, and need to move my permit over to my new car and at the moment im wasting visitors permits everyday
my break down doesnt cover home start

A tow bar is only £30, not much more than a rope

talking of towing,i'm gonna venture into the caravaning world in the near future.any of you lot had a tow bar fitted? if so, any recomendations of where to go for this would be welcome

Isn't a mile from home that it doesn't cover? Get a couple of mates to push it- job done.

Oh I forgot to say, I'm pretty sure there are rules on how heavy you can tow with depending on when you got your license.

Also, if the other car isn't taxed/MOTd then it may be a problem.

It is perfectly legal to tow another car using a tow rope, even on a motorway.

However, it is not considered safe.

In Swindon there is a place called Fast Plant they fit tow bars.
