Not too surprised to be honest.

This could be the end of DV.

I could see this on the cards tbh.  I remember when the lad made his first senior appearance for us as soon as he made a mistake all the miserable cunts in the Arkells stand was giving him shit.  It clearly knocked the lads confidence.

The fews times i saw him play in the reserves before he made the step in the first team he looked half handy.  Good luck to the lad i hope he can rekindle his career with another club

that lad was dynamite for the youths.a hot head, and at times a liability, but at other times the best player on the park by a mile.
bloody fine line in making it, as this shows.

Disagree, never though he had anything other than pace. I think he'll be lucky to get a league two club. Only leaves Thompson and Bodin as players in the squad who are unlikely to play and real part next season.

Also mean with his an Marshalls release we are bound to sign a couple of wingers.

Never recovered from the barracking in his first game. But like Riddick, I don't think he had much more to offer. Hope he finds himself a new club though.

what do you disagree with?
he scored shit loads of goals for the youths and got countless assists.his potential was there,it just didn't develop quick enough as a pro for wilson to keep him on

Anyone doubting the kid had talent - Franchise away.

As others have said never recovered from having his first ever professional touch booed.

Nice one you stupid cunts.

Shame it didn't happen for him. Looked like he had the potential, good luck to him anyway. We do need a winger or two now, not at all convinced by O'Brien  either !

To be fair, his first professional touch was the 4th time the ball had come to him as he totally missed it the first few times. I don't remember the booing being that bad either, it was more groans where I was sat. Not sure why we called him back from Torquay, a few more games would have done him some good and increased his chances of finding a new club.

Title: Re: Macklin Released
Post by: Riddick on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, 12:59:07
I'm not sure the potential was there. He had pace, the same as people gave marshall time because he had pace. It gets a lot of players over not being good at a lot else! I never saw a glimpse that he would be good enough.

Because fans booed him, he lost his confidence and never regained it. Those who booed him should hang their heads in shame as they have ruined the kids career and they should all burn in hell.

PS I got on his back that first game so yes I am a Stupid Cunt!!!

Still hardly likely to help a young lad playing his first game for his hometown club though is it? Hope he goes on to prove the moaners wrong, best of luck to him

WHAT???

That doesnt make any sort of sense to me? surely he didnt get another chance to play again properly really?

If a wincy section of the crowd got to him that much then he needs to man up a bit!

Couldnt agree more. He's got no future in football if he cant take a few groans from the crowd after letting the ball run under his foot and out of play. Daisy duke had several thousand booing him at one point FFS.

I'm not saying its right - I didnt get involved with it myself but thats the way it is.

Personally I'm not sure he ever had what it takes anyway. Sure he's fast, but he's fairly weak and dosnt seem to have much of a football brain either from the limited number of times I saw him play. Our team has improved and clearly wasnt going to get much game time barring a major injury crisis

I wish him well though, hope he makes it somewhere.

To be fair Macklin didnt look too bad after his first appearance and thought he would offer something to the side. He was fast etc but unlucky for him he got injured and he never got to prove himself. Would think he will get himself sorted with a club? Join Pooky at Cheltenham? Official site says after discussions with Lloyd himself they decided it best he leave so to me that sort of indicates something is already in the pipeline?

I think he was warming the bench for them the last 2/3 games before he came back here.

Hopefully he will find a club, I'm sure he will get somewhere in League 2.

Even if he dropped to the conference that is not a bad level quite a few decent teams down there now

If you were at franchise away then you would have seen that he had a LOT of potential.

He obviously had promblems playing at home as every time I saw him away he was impressive. Hope he finds another club

I wonder why he had problems playing at home ?  :hmmm: booing perhaps ...

No one fucking boo's him.We were chasing the game and fans groaned it's what football fans do if you can't handle that at Swindon Town then maybe it's best you don't become a pro footballer as the crowds don't get much better anywhere else around the country.

Our fans are no different to anyone else apart from we seem to like to abuse are own fans than anywhere else.

it proves that talent alone doesn't make a player.mental and physical strength is a massive factor.

This and to be fair Macklin was dreadful that day. I thought that in the early stages of last season he looked quite good though. He just lost his way after the injury and when you've got players like JP and Danny Ward keeping you out you're always going to find it hard. Good luck to him.

i dont think it has anything to do with him getting booed or whatever.
i am sure it is down to wilson not having a big squad, and not having the patience to wait and see if he comes good.
the harsh reality of being a pro at our level.learn fast or end up in non league

Big dissapointment for me. I think everyone who was at Franchise for the cup game would agree. He really did skip over tackles and breeze past players that night.

One thing that hasnt been mentioned is injury worries. I know any player can get injured, but that leg fracture at Brentford really was virtually nothing. You wonder if his body just wasnt standing up to the punishment? Another theory, his contract was up, did he and his agent ask for too much money? Being on a video game cover can do strange things to a boys head.

I dont think the booing for the Orient game ruined his chances with Swindon. But they certainly did set him back. One thing you can say now is that there is a much much more positive attitude at the CG now. Hopefully we are getting back to being a proper supportive crowd.

I thought he was going to make it. Very dissapointing.

I'll say it again, if you cant take some groans (especially when you've clearly made a basic error) from the crowd then you are not going to make it as a pro.

I wasnt at that MK game where he played very well, but many youngsters can have good games. they need to be consistant to make it though

Title: Re: Macklin Released

The booing bit ...

If I recall he also got a standing ovation when he came on - so those of you who are saying it knocked his confidence cant have it both ways.

If you cant respond to booing or groaning because it demoralises you, what does cheering and a standing ovation meant to do for you. We had all waited for this new talent to make his home debut, what a massive let down.

Quite simply, he was not good enough to hold a place in the squad.

Ability alone does not get you to the top. You need the right attitude, seen so many young players who think once they have a squad number they are the dogs bollocks. It is just the start of your career you have to work even harder to keep that squad number and it is not down to ability alone, a lot of it is in your head.

I wish him all the best, he is young, just needs to knuckle down now, and show what he is made of and prove a lot of us wrong.

What bothers me, isn't so much that a lad with possible potential has been released, but that we will undoubtedly borrow a couple of lads his age from other (bigger) clubs who have even less to offer, and give them loads of first team pitch time - we had a couple of those last season, I seem to remember!

Got take take the rough with the smooth when it comes to loans in the hope we get something better than we have. We get Hutchinson types but we also get some like Ward and Ferry.

If you don't give all the loans a chance clubs will be less likely to let any more come in the future.

Certainly true that the games Hutchinson started but Macklin didnt before he got injured at Brentford, were a total waste of time.

I think Tope probably had a bit more to offer than Macklin, but not Hutchinson.
