I know we all knew this anyway, but here's a quick article in the bbc I noticed where AF denied any move was on for Charlie to Cardiff...


"Swindon chairman Andrew Fitton has denied reports linking Charlie Austin with a move to Cardiff City.

Newspaper speculation suggested the highly-rated striker wanted to leave after Swindon failed to win promotion to the Championship. Fitton told BBC Wiltshire: "I'm amused. I think someone should ask Charlie. It's a bad story put in by somebody who wants to unsettle the player."

Austin arrived from Poole last October and scored 19 times in 33 appearance. Swindon lost 1-0 to Millwall in their League One play-off final at Wembley whilst Cardiff missed out on a place in the Premier League after being beaten by Blackpool in the Championship play-off final."

I think Charlie well still a little longer.  He still has to prove especially that last season wasn't a one off.  Should he perform like he did last season there will be a few clubs knocking at our door for him

He's on a long contract, and so clubs know they'd have to pay out for him. I reckon there'll be more interest in Jan (possibly a few low offers) with a good offer coming at the end of next season if he performs well...

...but if we're promoted, we'll probably turn that down, I hope!  :clap:

If Cox was sold for anything between the reported 1.5 and 1.7 million then I would slap a solid 1.6 million on the lad based upon his performance last year and potential. 

At 1.6 million I can’t see many Championship clubs being in the running. 

Austin will be a Town player next season.

The earliest he will go is this time next year so he can't run his contract out.

Please don't start the whole "how much would it take to sell Austin" debate all over again... no one knows.  Valuations from TEFers seem to vary from £500k to £2.5m which just goes to show the 80% bollocks is somewhat on the low side.

agree. This means nothing. If someone offers £2m cash up front for him he will be gone. Happily I dont think they will -yet

There is two years left on Austin's contract but the club have the option of extending it for a further year, so in effect he is under contract for three more years. Hence no need to sell him next summer either.

i think a fair amount of our fans get carried away with the value of players.you only have to look at players getting released for nothing to see that austin aint worth anywhere near 2 million.

Austin has been linked to Brighton and i can see him going for these reasons

1. They have a new stadium which is mahoosive
2. There fan base now covers the entire SE England
3. They have been promised the winning numbers of the Euro millions lottery for 6 months
4. Charlie has decided he likes bum fun

I assume (maybe wrongly) that at some point Austin would have to agree to the extension and could turn it down.


He is probably worth 2m to us. I've given my reasons plenty of times within comparison to Cox. However, you continue to belittle everyone else opinion as wrong without any justification, you do it so well...

That's fair enough, I've given my reasons as to why I think he is worth that. You've said we are all getting carried away and he isn't worth anyhwere near 2m. Again, fair enough but maybe you could tell us why you disagree so strongly?

Because lots of players are available on free transfer. That was his reason (or main one). I guess it means that clubs have a lot of players to chose from who would be cheaper and/or the amount of free transfer players shows that clubs are beginning to be more sensible with their money.

I think we said the same thing last season when Cox left.

And to be fair up until October we were correct.

Well, that was only 31 goals!!

...but...after Cox it was obvious improving our goal keeping and defending would some what counter act the huge loss of goals.

This season we've had a good defence and keepers, sure there is always room for improvement but not enough for the same kind of drastic improvement we saw from Coxs season to last season.

(20 Goals + Paynters Goals + new penalty takers goals) - Payters Penalties =  still lots of goals to replace.

Any striker worthy of the name should be able to take and score penalties.

Charlie Austin's agent has played down talk linking the Swindon hot-shot with a move away from the County Ground.
Highly-rated striker Austin is one of the most-sought after players in the country following his goalscoring exploits for Swindon last season.

Austin was arguably the find of last season after scoring 20 goals for the Robins following his arrival from non-league outfit Poole Town.

A host of sides higher up the league pyramid have been credited with an interest in the 20-year-old, but Austin's agent, David Threlfall, has cooled the rumours surrounding the striker's future.
"There is always going to be interest in someone like Charlie, especially after the season he has just had," Threlfall told skysports.com.

"While speculation is always flattering, Charlie is fully focused on returning to pre-season training and is looking forward to the season ahead."

Player power is incredible really. This time a year ago he was preparing for pre-season with Poole and now we're resigned to losing him within the next year! Saying that, it won't be the case if he struggles with the extra pressure we'll give him post-Paynter.

I am one of the ones who has a feeling that Pericard could come good BUT i really think we need someone proven upfront with Charlie next season. I have no doubt Austin will be good enough again but if he starts the season as our only real recognised goalscorer that's a alot pressure on him.When Paynter didn't score you had a feeling Austin would and vise versa and that could only have been a good thing for him but next season is a different proposition all together.Teams are aware of him now and the fans have a expectancy level of him now which wasn't really the case last year.

I thought I'd read somewhere that Wilson expects his strikers to take the penalties, so i'd imagine it'll be Austin.
