It's another Mail effort, they trot them out every couple of years. I guess the editor is pro fox hunting. I haven't really read that much on it. But a fox going upstairs and attacking humans. Not a chance. Last time this sort of story was hyped up it was bollocks.

this story is absolute bullshit i ve never heard of anything more bollocks than a fox goin in to a humans home goin up the stairs and attacking humans, nothing more than a publicity stunt.

Just to be a pedantic twat, it was Fantastic Mr Fox - and I missed the bit of that lovely children's tale where he violently mauls babies.  Would have made for a better book.

Yeah, makes no odds to me. They're not exactly cuddly friendly fluffy people lovers, are they? They do immense amounts of damage to livestock and since the hunting ban they just get blown away with shotguns and traps instead. I know a bloke in Purton who makes a living killing foxes. If there was no demand then he wouldn't have a job, would he?

Define wildlife. Birds, deer, badgers, rabbits and squirrels (for example) generally get on with their lives and avoid people.

Rats and foxes take much more of a detrimental interest.

I think you'll find rats have always enjoyed living alongside humans, we leave things around that they can benefit from. They are always around but not often seen.

They certainly do enjoy human company. Unfortunately they carry all manner of horrible diseases, like Weil's disease and bubonic plague. Therefore they are a threat and hence that is why they are exterminated wherever possible.

The argument about which living things happily co-exist with humans and those that are detrimental has to be universal if it is to be moral. You can't make exceptions because you feel that one sort of animal is 'ace' (to quote Arriba). To disagree means that you think that Colorado beetles should be left alone, or that the foot and mouth virus should be encouraged or that the malarial mosquito is fine by you. It has to be applicable to them all.

Sure, the degree of damage that these things can cause humans is obviously different, but they either do or they don't.

Coming back to the fox, it seems that a lot of people think they are acceptable, mainly because of the hunting issue. The reason they were hunted in the first place (and are still blown away whenever possible) is because they are a pest. The hunting ban may have been phrased as a general disgust at the inhumane way that foxes were (sometimes) ripped to bits by dogs but I think a lot of it was more to do with certain factions using it as a cover for having a pop at a well heeled section of society.

They are a pest because we continue to build everywhere and move them closer and closer to humans.

fox hunting is about the pleasure sick humans get from it.

I was talking about being a rural pest. They have been the bane of the farmer for centuries. You didn't tend to see the Wiltshire Hunt in Regent Circus, did you?

i dont dispute that foxes can be a problem for farmers.but the hunting of them isn't for pest control reasons.
hunts actively encourage foxes into areas to breed,so they can then hunt them.
those saying they hunt to control them are liars
