Ive got a lot of sympathy for Scholes.

When he retired from international football, the England team was descending into farce behind the scenes because Sven wouldnt enforce any discipline. He must have watched Beckham get kicked out of Man United by Fergie, and thought this is why he got kicked out, because the circus is taking over at England? McLaren couldnt really go any other direction, because he was there with Sven. History wont be kind to Sven. He's obviously very good tactically, but hes not what you'd call a football man? He's far too distracted by women and money. He's made a fool of himself far too many times since England falling over himself for boobs or cash.

Capello has come in and straight away laid down the law. He is a football man, and wont let anything compromise his focus on the football. By this time Scholes was 33? I dont think anyone including Capello or Scholes would have expected Scholes to still be playing at the top at 35, so unfortunately the England career he could have had has passed him by.

There's no way he'd get into our team now though. ahead of Barry, Carrick, Lambard, Gerrard or Milner? Not a chance.

Scholes is a dignified football man, who has always let his football do the talking. If theres something he doesnt give a flying fuck for, it would be celebrity, fame and riches.

The going gets a bit tough for Scholes, he doesn't fancy it so he retires from international football. He gets offered a come back chance by McLaren, no work extra work or effort involved, and he says no. Exactly the same happens with Capello.

You have no idea what Scholes' circumstances or reasons for retiring from internation football were. To say he quit when 'the going got tough' is naive and patronising to say the least.

There was pretty much an open invitation for Scholes to play for England again since Eriksson left the job, plus McLaren and Capello have asked him formally a number of times between them. So its bollocks for Scholes to say he would have played if asked sooner as he was and he didn't.

As regards the comment about taking someone else's place as he hadn't played for England recently, how do you think that made King, Dawson, Cole and Warnock feel as they were all in a similar position?

I'm not knocking him as a footballer but he turned his back on England and he shouldn't be praised or defended for that decision.

Yep. Excellent player in his prime, but that ended approx 5 years ago.  He's still far from shit but i dont see how he would fit into the current england team anyway. He's not a DM and at this moment in time is clearly not better that gerrard or lampard.

Point is he's class and has shit loads of experience at closing games out, unfortunately that is where we have stuggled in tournaments gone by.

I would say he's had a better season than Gerrard

He's slightly past his prime but he could've played an important part in our campaign, just like he does for Man Utd. I'd have him in the squad instead of the massively-overrrated Carrick any day of the week.
