Title: Web design
Post by: oxford_fan on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, 13:27:39
Help please. I want to create a website for my Dad's business. I'm decent on computers, but have no knowledge of html and my only experience of creating a website is from about 10 years ago using MS Front Page. Is there a template thing or easy software package I can use to do it all? It would also be good if it could have a decent domain - mastercareclean.co.uk doesn't seem to be taken. How would we go about getting that and would there be an annual fee? Thanks!

You can pick up domains for about £10 give or take. Web design isn't as easy as some programs would have you believe. You'd probably be best using something like Wordpress, which is a blog based content management system and quickly learning that. Dreamweaver is the industry standard for Wysiwyg site building, but the learning curve is quite steep.

You could try NVU, which is painfully easy. The code always used to be shit, but it'll do the job and is probably the easiest out of the box solution imo.

You could also find yourself a free CSS template and edit that in an editor, that'll give you quite nice code and a basis and framework within which to build a decent enough site.

Edit: Wordpress isn't a great idea, go with NVU and a free css template. You could do it in no time. :)

Just purchased that domain OF. I'll sell it to you for £100.
