Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: Rich Pullen on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 21:02:44 You need to spruce up on your spelling RP I blame the iPhone... Still getting used to it. Apologies all. Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: NorwayRed on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 21:03:51 4D: Yes, we can do that. But it's for foreigners only - since we can't have the risk of not getting them in time by mail. So I reckon all of the people heading for the Wembley Ticket Office at Saturday will all be foreign fans, then! ::)

[sarcasm] No, I would say there's no possibility of that whatsoever [/sarcasm]Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: NorwayRed on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 21:13:38 shady: Cheers! We're arriving at Heathrow saturday morning, and will be in quite a rush to get to the hotel and then to Wembley to pick up the tickets. Who knows if we manage to stop for a cold one before the game, but we're definetly having one after the game - hopefully in celebrations! :beers:
Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: shady on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 21:16:31 You could get some cans in a carrier bag and have them outside Wembley. I plan to do that but i'm a bit cautious of all them Millwall fans who are going to be doing the same thing.
Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: sonicyouth on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 21:17:16 we need to get the club to do a pre-season tour of norway!
Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: NorwayRed on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 21:24:02 Sonic Youth: Now that would be a great thing! I've wanted them to come to Norway for a pre-season for years. I remember in the early or mid-90s Swindon Town were in Finland for pre season a summer or two - but I wasn't able to go there.
Do you remember more norwegians than Jan Aage Fjørtoft in Swindon? I remember two local acquaintances were at Swindon Town on trials after getting the contact information from our fanclub in the 90s. The two guys never made it, but they were young at the time - 16 or so - so I guess it was much for fun. In the late 90s I also think Jarle Wee was at Swindon on an unsucessful trial. A few other scandinavians have been at Swindon in around year 2000 - both Kim Heiselberg (Denmark) and a Finn who used to play in Tippeligaen for Tromsø were at the club - unfortunatly! I can't think of anyone else at the time... David Hay was of course assistent manager in 93/94 after being Lillestrøms manager in the late 80s - getting them a league championship in Norway, but due to boring football the attendances went down even when they won gold medal! ??? Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: tans on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 21:25:36 Ah Kim Heiselberg and Markko Tuomela.
What a quality pair of players! Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: suttonred on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 21:29:30 so does anyone recognize these chaps from "The Glue Pot" New Years Eve 1993? Yep Jacko's there, that is very funny. Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: suttonred on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 21:30:58 Ooh and i think that's mr Burns half hidden.
Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: suttonred on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 21:35:22 we need to get the club to do a pre-season tour of norway! You've just been appointed president of the pressure group. I've not been yet and was looking to go this summer, but it was about 2k, and i could go to NZ for that. If i had a reason to sell to the missus, that would seal it. Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: sonicyouth on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 21:36:41 might be a problem given the norwegian football season runs through the summer...
Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: NW6Red on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 21:38:43 Norway Red, if I see you on Saturday I'll definitely buy you a beer...
What does it say on the postcard from Fjortoft? Particularly the printed bit under his name? Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: suttonred on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 21:39:55 They must have a break? Isn't it -80 or something then?
Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: suttonred on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 21:40:41 Norway Red, if I see you on Saturday I'll definitely buy you a beer... What does it say on the postcard from Fjortoft? Particularly the printed bit under his name? Dont know, but i bet there's a few skips outside in a day or two. Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 21:47:19 The Dunbar Club..that brings back memories! My mum used to take me there all the time. There can't be many employers that lay on a free social/leisure club for their employees these days! Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: One F In Fitton on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, 23:56:29 I have been to the Ullevaal Stadium, NorwayRed - it was my first ever England away game. I am sure you remember it as you beat us 2-0, and it was just a few days after Swindon beat Leicester in our last Wembley appearance (that was an eventful week). Paul Gascoigne was particularly fat at this time and England were a disgrace, just hoofing the ball from everywhere for Alan Smith to flick on to nobody in particular. We had a fantastic time in Oslo though - I just remember that all the locals were very drunk (all day) and very happy - a brilliant atmosphere.
I didn't see a Swindon Town stall, but what I did see outside the ground will probably live with me forever - there were some proper sexy girls, really attractive - TITS OUT - being pushed around the streets ON A BED, & HANDING OUT PORNO MAGAZINES TO THE ENGLAND FANS. I swear that this happened. Mr Fitton/Mr Watkins - if you're reading this, perhaps you'd consider........ Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: NorwayRed on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, 05:46:24 :D Great that some of the guys on the Glue Pot-photo is finally identified!
Sonic: Yes, the norwegian season runs from april to october (this year they started march because of the WC-break) - but they usually have a three-four weeks break in July - so there would be room for a pre-season tour then! COYR! Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: berswin on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, 06:05:49 Me and my missus at the Leyton Orient match (her first in England).
And me in one of the greatest shirts ever at the stadium of my local team, IK Start. The groundsman (from Watford) is a friend of mine and he celebrated his birthday last September by inviting 11 friends to a crossbar challenge, Soccer AM style. As we are merely amateurs, we kicked the ball from approx 30 meters out, not the halfway line. Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: tans on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, 06:08:44 The potato print shirt.
You legend! Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: NorwayRed on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, 07:58:11 Great pictures, Berswin!
That great, green away shirt brings back good memories of terrible shirt design 8) I saw the weather forecast today, and it was drizzle and light rain in London saturday. :badmood: Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: Ardiles on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, 08:00:59 Great seeing all the old shots. I know a few people on here will recognise the guys in the Glue Pot photo. (As I said in the PM, NorwayRed, you will probably see a few familiar faces on Saturday if you get a chance to meet up.)
My only experience of Norwegian football came about 7 or 8 years ago when I was visiting Tromso in June with some old school mates for a Midnight Sun/beer weekend. (OK, so the beer cost at least £5/pint - even back then - bad planning.) Tromso were not playing that weekend, but Tromsdalen (or TUIL), the team from just over the bridge on the mainland were. It was a Second Division game against a side from Oslo. The fans were nutters! What really stands out for me though was the stadium (which I now think has been replaced, sadly). It was an open ground surrounded by mountains on three sides and a fjord on the fourth. Absolutely stunning scenery. And great weather as well...bizarrely, I managed to catch a little too much sun that day - which is fairly impressive considering were inside the Arctic Circle at the time. No idea what the score was. Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: juddie on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, 09:09:04 loving the potato shirt! Great pics – I hope your trip is worth it NR!
Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: No Longer Posh Red on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, 09:58:27 It's great to get a feeling of how passionate you guys are for the Town.
Hope you have a great day on Saturday, and that you get a chance to come back & watch the Town in the championship next season. PS. I like the green potato print shirt, I remember wearing it to watch a Sheff Weds game in Luxembourg many moons ago :D Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: Benzel on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, 10:33:51 Have a fantastic day on Saturday all you Norway Reds. That goes for all fans coming in from abroad.

Make yourselves known!
Title: Re: Norwegian Fans Post by: berswin on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, 07:38:44 We concidered bringing a larger flag to Wembley (2,5mx1,5m), but thought it would be a bit over the top and that it might be received wrong (like "we're only supporting now when Swindon are at Wembley").
The next time we travel to Swindon, we'll bring the largest one and we'll get some print on it :) |
