There are going to be about 38,000 of them so I don't think you can avoid them anywhere. Vast majority will be fine but I woud err on the side of caution and hide colours until you're in a big group. Quite a few of them will be drinking in Baker Street which is near to Marylebone but there will also be lots of Swindon drinking there.

I lived in Yeovil for 5 years I can think of a millions places more of a shit hole in all honesty.

I'll be travelling down from not so sunny Norfolk. Engineering works on trains that day, so it's a toss up between going via Cambridge or catching a bus for last leg of journey into Liverpool St. I'll be the other funny looking prick on the train drinking Stella by myself.

Travelling down from Nottingham, leaving work at midday on Friday with a mate, staying overnight with his brother & family in Harrow then on to Wembley Stadium on Saturday morning to meet my son & planning to savour the experience of Swindon Town at Wembley.

Last time I was there was for the League Cup Final in 1969, lousy pitch then, we wore white & apparently stood no chance whatsoever against a London based side.  How history repeats itself.

You'd be better off getting the Metropolitan Line from Baker Street to Wembley Park. It's quicker, and drops you off closer to the stadium.

Getting the 7.45am National Express from Leicester arriving for 10 at Victoria

I'll be travelling from Norway with my girlfriend on Friday and I guess we (in all 5 Norwegians) will travel to Wembley around noon on Saturday to enjoy the atmosphere in and around the great Wembley.

I'm also coming from the far north, taking the 5 minute ride through Moredon before parking up somewhere near the Swiss Chalet.

Just checked on TFL, the Circle line is running for a change, so anyone who wants to avoid the snarl up at Baker St, or  Marylebone, can go round, catch the reds coming in at Paddington and then head up to Wembley central.

5 of us West Oxon-ers doing the same. We always do it for England games - piece of piss. Easy after the games too, as just about every train leaving Wembley stops at Wycombe. The car park is a bit cramped but they have an overspill area, plus you can just sit tight for a few minutes & wait for the next train to come in (it's a busy station) then follow people to their car & jump in their space. I've never had to wait too long doing this & that's with loads & loads of England fans lurking about.

It's been mentioned on some other threads that it's amazing how many spectators we can get for a match like this but on a normal Saturday home league game we only average 8000. The distance some people are travelling for this game shows that there are fans out there who don't live in Swindon and can't get to every/many home games. It doesn't make them any lesser fans. I would love to have a season ticket and if i lived in Swindon and didn't work on Saturdays I would do. This thread therefore disproves the 'plastic' theory  :)

I think Mr Porter makes a good point.  To make just about every home game from Peterborough requires a level of dedication that most people's lives would not allow.  We all have other commitments.

On a similar note, I am surprised at just how geographically spread our fan base appears to be.  I know a lot of London Reds from my time there, but people seem to be coming from all over.  It's often said that Swindon is a town that many people have moved in to...but I think it's also fair to say that a great many people must have left the place over the years as well, and kept their footballing allegiances to the club.

That's not what i'm saying Paul. What i am saying is that we're not all lucky enough to live in Swindon and be able to go to every game. What i am also trying to get across is what defines a fan? Someone who attends every match (less than 8000) someone who goes a few times a season or to big games (?13000) or someone who follows Swindon and is proud to do so (in excess of 30,000)? And let's face it we're not an easy team to follow! But at the end of the day Swindon Town is our team and in my eyes we're all as big a fans the the next!

There's a very tedious tendency among some of our more regular fans to have a pop at those who don't go as often.  I've never really understood why...but we had to listen to it ad nauseam in 1993 and, unfortunately, we're having to listen to it again now.

Why don't some people go as often?  Unless you know them personally, I wouldn't even try to guess.  Do they love the club as much as you do?  Maybe.  And is it any of your ****ing business anyway?  No.

Some of the 31,000 are going to be day trippers.  And many others - more than people appreciate - are dyed in the wool fans who can't make games as much as they would like but are making damned sure they're going to be there on Saturday, what ever it takes.  I'm one of them, I should know.

Possibly the most depressed I've ever been about the nature of some of our support was at Southampton in the Cup, maybe about 15 years ago. It was the 1 time that they put us in the side bit. This amazing, juvenile, pathetic squabble broke out amongst a fair few around us (bottom tier), whereby they were shouting out how many years they've been going to games, how regularly they go, how many away games etc etc. I can't remember what triggered it off, but basically it was regulars having a pop at the day-trippers. I was staggered and dumbstruck at how incredibly pathetic and retarded it all was. We still joke about it - dunno if anyone on here remembers this?

A friend and I had a similar incident in the south side about ten years ago. I can't even remember the game now. Some twat behind us took offence to something one of us shouted and so started having a go about us being fair weathers and we shouldn't be there. I gave him some back, shouting that we were fans of over 20 years and every game is pretty much an away game for us because of the 60 mile round trip for home games, which probably made us better fans than him. It decended into a pathetic slanging match at which point my mate just chinned him and then we got chucked out. I couldn't fucking believe it, some bloke starts on us and we get thrown out! I can laugh now but at the time I was livid. I was doing 30 odd games a season back then and the prick had the cheek to question me. That's just one of a many little incidents over the years where so called fans have acted like mongs.

On topic - 16 seater minibus of us going tomorrow from Melksham, heading straight for the Green Man.

Almost forgot. I saw the prick at Bournemouth the following season and he thought he was my best mate.
