Title: Boycott TP's Sports Bar (ex-Walkabout)?
Post by: pauld on Thursday, May 20, 2010, 09:32:48
Apparently we're not welcome in TP's Sports Bar because we're all violent thugs - won't allow Town fans in on matchdays, refused to show Monday's game because we're "too violent", but still hoping to cash in on the final because they're showing that. Nice. Maybe anyone not able to get to the game might want to watch it in a pub where they're actually welcome.

Place is shit anyway. Full of Chavs and dickheads. I rarely get anywhere near the place. Was going to watch the World Cup there but not now!

The ex-landlord of the Queen's Tap used to close his pub on match days for the same reason. Apparently he owned a pub outside Fratton Park but had never known any fans as violent as Swindon.

I don't think he appreciated the finer points of my argument which went along the lines of: "bollocks, you're talking shite"

Why promote yourself as a "sports bar" then refuse to show a massive football match
Idiots

They need to open there eyes - They are based in the bottom of town - hence you cant be too picky about your customers

it doesn't help that you're throwing a chair through the window while saying that though.

Makes me laugh, most of the trouble in there that I have seen has usually got something to do with their over eager bouncers looking for a fight.  They know where the blind spots in the CTTV are too.  I know from experience.

Cunts!

what a joke, as JFW has said, a brand new sports bar, the first of its kind in swindon town centre, which refused to show one of STFC's biggest games in recent times. JOKE!!!

Is it an ew sports bar though of just walkabout being renamed - I like the bit where htey say that they have swindon fan;s in on a Sat night causing trouble, I think that may have nothing to do with football just the clientelle they attract

On a similar subject, will the game be shown at the club do you think or are all staff going to wembley?

To be fair, i can see their side a bit. I know i've been in some pretty horrible situations in Swindon bars during England games (windows put through, chairs and pints thrown), so can't imagine Swindon games being any more civil. Although as P2p says, it's also the clientele that pubs in the bronx attract.

It was the change of mind that annoyed me as much as anything - won't have Town fans in the place, won't show the games etc under normal circumstances but then change their minds when they think they might cash in. Wankers

How do they know they're Swindon fans?  They can't have a Swindon shirt on, because they're banned!  Pathetic.  Anyone who lowers themselves to go in there and watch the final is a moron.  Actually that's previous obvious if they're going to watch it in a pub in Swindon instead of going to Wembley!

One thing about what they said doesn't make any sense is that they have said that they had a fight outside last july, but that is impossible as they only opened last friday, and then they refused to let us in as it was their VIP opening. I also tried to watch the game in there on Monday but was told they were not showing it, i asked the bar staff if they were still part of walkabout and was told no. Walkabout as a company don't show local team football in their pubs. Rudy's was the only pub we could find that was showing the game.

I think the thing about the trouble is fair - but only if opposition are in town.

I can't imagine a load of Charlton fans suddenly turning up and storming the place.

I have been in Walkabout as it was for Champions League finals and there were plenty of Chelsea & Man U fans to fight each other or even amongst themselves yet they were allowed in wearing their plastic shirts. There's something wrong when you can't sit in a pub in your home town wearing the shirt of your local team

Don't see what the problem is, there are plenty of other places to go to.

Yes, that's the point:

rather than this place which is just trying to cash in on the final but ordinarily wouldn't show Town games or (apparently) let Town fans in

Quite right.  Aside from anything else, I think you have to assume that anyone who thinks that Swindon fans are more 'violent' than most must be fairly new to football...and probably shouldn't be running a sports bar.
