I've ranted about that before. Drives me potty. I think it goes back to the old creative writing courses where your English teacher would berate you if you wrote a story that had loads of "He said, I said" etc. So they can no longer bring themselves to use the word "say" even when it's the most appropriate. Ditto for "relish" - players are always "relishing" things, apparently
