"This is a massive game, not only because of what it means to the fans, but this is personal to us," he said.

"A lot of people think footballers are just mercenaries, but these are lads I've spent every day with for the last 10 months or so, so we want to achieve it for ourselves.

"Gordon Strachan once said that you don't achieve team morale by going out and getting drunk or doing this, that and the other - you achieve it by winning football matches.

"It's obviously helped that we've been quite successful, because if we were bottom of the league and losing every week we'd probably hate the sight of each other!

"But all the lads here are friends now, and we want to achieve something not just for ourselves but for each other."

And as far as the notoriously intimidating atmosphere at The New Den is concerned, Lucas is confident he and his teammates have enough to overcome it.

"It's going to be a pretty huge atmosphere, but I'd take that over playing at Colchester in front of 3,000," he said.

"It's a chance to test yourself and see how you can stand up to that sort of pressure.

"At the end of the day, unless something really stupid happens, what can they do? Shout at you, maybe throw stuff at you but that's about it.

"You can torment them a bit by just playing well anyway, and stopping them achieving what they want to achieve.

"It's just about concentrating on the game rather than anything else, and that's what we'll be doing."

Dave Lucas, Class Act.

I've only seen him a few times but he looks terrific to me.  My old man is an ST holder and says he's definitelty the best keeper we've had since Digby (and Given on loan).

If I had to choose a Town player to have a few pints with it would have to be Lucas. He seems to be a pretty cool bloke. When he was co-commentating a few weeks back he said he'd been to Glastonbury for the last 9 years...and he likes Neil Young..he'll do for me!

yes only one hat as the days of loads of people wearing hats and throwing them in the air when a goal is scored are long past.

A genuinely decenty bloke and a top keeper, brilliant distribution but a bit susceptible to being lobbed as we've seen a couple of times this season

100% agreement, Lucas seems like a quality bloke. Top Keeper and a top family man be the looks of things.
