I'm with OneF - pace alone doesn't give someone the right to turn pro. Look at Austin? No real pace as such and he was at Thatcham when Shakes was in our first team.

Dave, I find that I often agree with your posts and opinions but have noticed recently people knocking you for stating what is blindingly obvious - our form has deserted us at the time of year (when with a relatively injury free squad) you most want a run of good form.

David Peach was the worst buy I can remember - record signing, a fullback who couldn't tackle and could hardly kick a ball straight.
We lost 6-2 on his debut and he went for a free a year or so later.

I think Oggy Hunt turned out be a pretty ineffective lard-arse, but I'll always have a soft spot for him because of his 2nd or 3rd game for Town, vs The Pox. He was this unknown kid who played on the left wing that night, and he absolutely stripped their right-back bollock naked and rogered him for 90 minutes. I know that we won comfortably and he played a major role for us in that game.

oggy might not quite of been upto the level we were at,at the time.but he did very well in the non leagues and still plays locally today.

My abiding memory of Ricky Shakes is when he played a flick-on to himself in front of the Don Rogers, sprinted about 40 yards and then, clear on goal, from about 20 yards out spooned the ball over Stratton Bank.

can't remember the game, but remember shakes ran through on goal(towards the townend)only the keeper to beat, and he just went to pieces.

i remember a game mchugh came off the bench against QPR i think the first thing he was to do was take a free-kick instead he kicked the floor and broke his toe and had to go off straight away i dont think he played for us again.
