Title: Albums dug out of the collection that turn out to be awesome.... Post by: Doore on Friday, April 23, 2010, 21:56:33 Athlete's first album, Vehicles and Animals, for me. Loved it for a week, ignored it for six years, chucked it on this week. Its fucking great. Any other hidden gems?

I had a similar experience with Newton Faulkner's first album 'hand built by robots' the other week, and of course original pirate material is always worth digging out as well.
Title: Re: Albums dug out of the collection that turn out to be awesome.... Post by: Barry Scott on Friday, April 23, 2010, 22:09:32 I had a similar affair with Bush - Razorblade suitcase. I don't like it now though.
Not an album many on here will know, but Way Out West's first album (called Way Out West) was immense and whenever i pull that out i get sexually excited. (I play it very rarely because 1, it's rare as rocking horse shit and 2, i don't ever want to tire of it.) Title: Re: Albums dug out of the collection that turn out to be awesome.... Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, April 23, 2010, 22:32:51 I've rediscovered The Platform by Dilated Peoples recently, despite my friends going crazy for it when it was out, it passed me by. Possibly due to my Eric B & Rakim obsession at the time.
Title: Re: Albums dug out of the collection that turn out to be awesome.... Post by: jonny72 on Friday, April 23, 2010, 22:50:15 I must have lost my copy of the first Athlete album, keep meaning to buy another copy but then forget. Not many artist album's I can listen to all the way through but that is definitely one of them.
Only albums I can think of are a couple of big beat mixes; Fatboy Slim's "On The Floor At The Big Beat Boutique" and Jon Carter "Live At The Social". Whilst the mixing is a bit sparse they're both full of great tracks, a good few of which must be pretty rare as I'm still trying to track down unmixed versions of them. Haven't listened to either in ages and they're now both going straight on to my iPhone. Title: Re: Albums dug out of the collection that turn out to be awesome.... Post by: Barry Scott on Friday, April 23, 2010, 22:54:05 Possibly due to my Eric B & Rakim obsession at the time. I just went on YouTube to listen to "I know you got soul" because i'd forgotten about them completely. Don't ask why, i think i just thought about rap and remembered some hideous american group my mate showed me for laughs... Welcome to the greatest "hip-hop" band ever, i give you Insane Clown Posse. Lyrics such as "Fucking magnets, how do they work?" are some of the genius lines from this track. I kid you not. I actually thought this was a spoof or a joke or something. (Sorry for taking this thread off topic early Billy, but people have to hear this total tripe!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-agl0pOQfs&feature=related Title: Re: Albums dug out of the collection that turn out to be awesome.... Love that album - have done since it came out!One that I always go back to now and again is Ryan Adams - Gold. Title: Re: Albums dug out of the collection that turn out to be awesome.... Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, April 23, 2010, 23:37:50 I just went on YouTube to listen to "I know you got soul" because i'd forgotten about them completely. Microphone Fiend is probably my favourite, closely followed by Follow The Leader. Didn't one of the Insane Clown Posse go into a mental health hospital at some stage? I'm sure I've heard about that somewhere. How brilliantly ironic if true. Title: Re: Albums dug out of the collection that turn out to be awesome....
