Get registered if you are interested..think if you are registered you get entered into the ticket ballott..if you are lucky in the ballott you get to buy some tickets. Not really into athletics etc but we wont see another olympics in our lifetime in the UK. Wont guarantee you tickets but at least you will know the details of when they are on sale. Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: Fred Elliot on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 11:08:35 we wont see another olympics in our lifetime in the UK. I am sure some of the younger TEFer's may beg to differ Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: Talk Talk on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 11:17:53 Meh. Over hyped and over here.
Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: (.)Boobies(.) on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 11:18:29 I can't think of anything more boring tbh. Hidious looking stadium too.
Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: Bogus Dave on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 11:20:42 Whaaaaaaaaaaat
I'd love to go, but wouldn't be able to aford a ticket. Any idea baout volunteering? Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: Talk Talk on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 11:30:37 Incidentally...
Olympic losses: Montreal, 1976: >$1 billion Calgary, 1988: $910 million Barcelona, 1992: $1.4 billion Sydney, 2000: £2-3 billion "Taxpayers are legally responsible for any debt left over from the Games (IOC Charter Rule 42)" It's a tax payer rip off. It only makes money for developers and vested interests. My children are going to have to pay for 2012 for the rest of their lives. Title: Re: Olympics 2012. They must be proper pissed off you signed them up to underwrite that :)[ducks] Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: jonny72 on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 11:44:20 My children are going to have to pay for 2012 for the rest of their lives. A £3 billion loss / cost works out at £50 per person in the UK. Not exactly going to break the bank is it. Plus the French were really pissed off when we won the vote for 2012, so its worth every single penny. Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Yes, but that isn't how it works, is it? Another £3 billion on the national debt with all of the associated interest compounded over decades. You seem to have forgotten that it is on top of the £941 billion that is currently outstanding, with £43 billion a year due in interest. That's £12,000 a year in interest for every household in the country, paid for with our taxes. http://www.debtbombshell.com/ (http://www.debtbombshell.com/) Ah, just another £3 billion to add then. Well why not? Madness. Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: Bogus Dave on Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 12:16:57 Yeah, but there'll be people running fast and throwing things!

You seem to have missed those. Dare I say because they might not support your point and may perhaps average the figures out to an insignificant mean loss or even a net profit?http://www.debtbombshell.com/ (http://www.debtbombshell.com/) Ah, just another £3 billion to add then. i'll deffo be going along to an event if i can get tickets Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: Costanza on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, 19:30:53 Did anyone else get tickets?
I had some money taken with the following message on my statement WWW.TICKETS.LONDON LONDON WC2H I assume that means I'm going to watch some Olympic football in Newcastle then, the real hub of Olympic activity! Shambles. Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: Summerof69 on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, 20:45:22 Did anyone else get tickets? I've got 2 out of 5, which going by some of the stories in the press is pretty good, especially as they are both £20 tickets. Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: Costanza on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, 20:55:41 I've got 2 out of 5, which going by some of the stories in the press is pretty good, especially as they are both £20 tickets. I'm surprised I got some as I went for the cheapest option for St. James Park. So I'll be in the heavens. I look forward to a double-header which will be something like New Zealand vs. Uruguay and Belgium vs. Japan. Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: jonny72 on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, 20:59:00 Me and my brother got just over £600 worth of tickets in total. I suspect a good chunk of that will be football, but it can't all be which is a good thing. Plus I picked the football at the grounds I wanted to go to so it won't be too bad - St James, Old Trafford, Wembley and the Millennium and most were double headers. They were all cheap tickets so I might hit the jackpot and get an England game or two.

Post by: Costanza on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, 21:02:36 Yeah it'll be Team GB.
Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: Nemo on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, 21:04:47 Not usually, but there's a team going in for this one- England are the only board behind it, but I think individuals from other nations can put themselves forwards- Bale has certainly said he'd like to play.
Could actually be a fairly tasty team in the end. Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: Costanza on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, 21:05:45 Olympic level is Under-23 plus two others isn't it?
Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: Summerof69 on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, 21:16:39 Olympic level is Under-23 plus two others isn't it? Yes, under 23, plus 2 overage players. Of course, Wenger and co. will be complaining that these players will be called up. Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: jonny72 on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, 21:27:23 Yes, under 23, plus 2 overage players. Wikipedia says its 3 over 23. Wonder who the overage players will be, Beckham and Giggs if they're still playing? Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: betty_swollox on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, 12:49:46 I'm pretty sure I've got tickets for the Football and Basketball both gold medal matches, but I didn't get beach volleyball. They were crafty with that anyway. Putting mens and womens games in the same session to force us to watch both.
I'm not too bothered about the basketball so does anyone know if you're stictly not allowed to sell on the tickets? I've heard you can resell them on the offical site but I assume for the same price I bought them? I'd like to sell them to an American tourist for a high mark up if I can...all in line with the spirit of the games. They were £95 each anyway and they were the cheapest ones. Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: jonny72 on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, 13:18:10 Impression I got is that if you sell them on to your mates at face value they won't ever catch you or care.
If you tout them and attempt to sell them on for a profit you're in big trouble if they catch you and they'll be doing their best to make sure they do. They've changed the law as well to make the penalties pretty steep. Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: STFC_Gazzza on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, 13:33:58 I got nothing in the end. Mind you I only applied for 4 events....
Opening Ceremony Olympics Prelims Beach Volleyball Swimming Will go for second round ballot (although those tickets will go very quickly and the website will crash)to the bin emptying or whatever else is still available so anyone looking to get rid of tickets let me know. Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: No Longer Posh Red on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, 18:31:58 We've got tickets for two events.
One is football at the Ricoh arena, and the other is either a track cycling session or one of the Athletics sessions. (same ticket prices) We are also planning to go & watch the (cycling) individual TT as that's a free event. Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: reeves4england on Thursday, June 9, 2011, 00:05:00 I got charged £66... I'm pretty sure it'll be for football at Wembley. Bit of a shame, as I'd much rather have got some athletics. Hoepfully I'll get hold of somethings decent when people start trading!
Title: Re: Olympics 2012. Post by: london_red on Friday, June 10, 2011, 10:01:32 I've just had £136 charged to my credit card for some tickets - one of the Athletics days as far as I can tell. Might be worth checking if you didn't think you'd got any as evidently some of the payments are still being taken.

Apparently they had some reallocating to do as a number of payments couldn't be taken - the extra tickets were supposed to go to the first failures in the respective ballots. |
