Title: Roll call v Brentford
Post by: chalkies_shorts on Friday, March 19, 2010, 18:55:14
I just read the Adver and sadly another Town fan has died. The club are going to hold a roll call of those connected with Town who have died this season followed by a minute's applause at the last game v Brentford. Having lost a few people recently and being a lot nearer the grave than my birth I thought this was a fantastic idea. What a wonderful gesture by the club and how thuoghtful.
I love the Board we have - they're proper people.

Yeah Nick Watkins seems a decent guy and Fitton has his head screwed on.

RIP all you fallen Robins !

Two words:  Family Club.

We've not been one of those for a while.  Nice touch by the Board.

That's a great gesture by the club and a real recognition of the departed fans.

All of the board members that i've met, have always been happy to talk to everybody,
especially at away games. It's very much appreciated.

I lost my Dad yesterday and have to say my mind is all over the place.

Will take my seat tomorrow as usual but will have my little boy with me but its going to be emotional.
The wine tonight may be doing the trick and help me sleep but tomorrow the result will be less important for once. (I'm sure you will understand only for me though).

It's the same road, time etc tomorrow like it has been for the past 35 years back to Mums and Dads for dinner and on to the game. This time my Dad will not be there at home but sure will be in my heart.

Wine and fucking tears and maybe regret posting something private.

The CG is home for an Oxfordshire boy since 1975 and you are the family.

COYR's.

I've been through it as well and all I can say is to keep hold of the memories so that they stay clean and fresh forever.

Here's to a win tomorrow, eh?

Sometimes you just need to share things in order to not tear yourself up, even if it is on the internet with people you don't really know.

My thoughts are with you anyway chap, it's horrible losing your dad. I hope tomorrows rituals bring back some great memories.

I see the same faces of fans home and away no one knows me and I know no-one but despite this our club is our centre point and those around me have a common interest and in that forms a bond, a common interest.

It is only a football club some would say but with that comes an emotional bond and joins us all together and when someone close to the cub dies we should honour them as one of our own.

There is nothing anyone can say at this point to make you feel better Banbury, but my thoughts are with you and yours at this awful time.  I hope the game tomorrow brings some small form of catharsis for you.

Very well said and echoes my thoughts exactly. Duke of Banbury, I wish you well in the coming weeks - it will be tough but you've got a lot of people you don't know wishing you well as well as those close to you.

My deepest heart felt condolances Banbers.

I know exactly how you feel, my dad got diagnosed this week with probable bowel cancer and a huge aortic aneurysm, so we are basically sitting on a ticking time bomb with him and he could pass any day so its down to us to make his last days more bearable and I fucking love watching his face light up when I tell him the Town result (hes been a fan for 60 years and it never leaves you). His first ever game watching Swindon was coincidentally against Norwich back in the very early 50's.

Heres to a great result today for the memory of your father and to the future.

There are no words that can make you feel better at this extremely hard point of your life, you have my heart felt sympathies. Just stay as strong as you can.

Sorry to hear the news Banbury.

I'm glad to hear you are taking you little one with you, hope it helps you through the day somehow.  And its how football teams should be chosen. Handed on from one generation to the next.

Hope your dad has a fair few more Town induced smiles too JJ. Not really sure what else to say.

Condolences, Banbury. I'm new here and although our paths have never crossed, we are all reds and you have my sympathies.

As for this gesture by the board, wow, what fantastic people we have running our club now.

Thanks for your comments but its not for me to take anything away from Banburys plight which is much worse than mine, but I do not wish this on anyone but life does carry on and we have to be strong and supportive to those that need it.

COME ON SWINDON do Banbury's dad proud and beat the canaries today, give him a great send off lads.

Sorry to hear your news Banbury, one that I can relate to.  My dad died suddenly when I was 20, there was a game a few days later and mum insisted I should go saying Dad would not have wanted me to stay away on account of him.  I went to the match but couldn't help thinking of my dad all the way through.  It took me a few months to get over his death, my thoughts are with you mate.

Just read your news, Banbury.  Truly sorry to hear of your loss.  Fair play to you for going on Saturday.  I'd say Gordon's late effort was one for your old man.

Had the same thing happen to me a few years back. My dad died on the Friday and I took my lad to watch us play Rovers away on the Saturday. Don't even remember the score, but just felt like I should go, instead of sitting at home moping.
