Nor am I but I'd guess it's no more subtle than "Snoop Dogg Swindon" along the lines of "P Diddy Palace" (do you see what they did there?). Journo humour does tend to lay it on with a trowel - but, my, how we laughed.

I'm guessing if you're American, famous, rich and want to buy a sports team just for the crack it works out a lot cheaper buying someone like Palace than a team in the USA. Major league teams in other sports cost $200m or more and I don't think their soccer teams are cheap either, maybe $50m though I could have made that up.

I actually think it would be pretty cool if he bought it, better than some shady business man who is just trying to make a quick buck out of it. To be fair, I've always thought Crystal Palace was a cool name - sure there is plenty of marketing opportunities for someone like P Diddy, maybe a range of clothing or something like that.

A sponsorship deal with the aforementioned champagne?
