Title: Ipod / ITunes
Post by: Power to people on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, 13:56:47
Mrs has already got an ipod and uses ITunes on the computer, I'm about to get an ipod and also need to use ITunes obviously - at the moment we don't have seperate logons, do we need speperate logon's to setup 2 Ipod's or can we both use the same version of ITunes although selecting different music on either ipod ??

That article over complicates things.

Just open iTunes as usual then plug the new iPod in, follow the instructions, job done.

You can share purchases from the iTunes store as well, up to 5 devices I think.

When you plug each ipod in to itunes, uncheck the box that relates to automatic sync-ing. Then you can pick and choose what you want on the ipod.

Job done.

This. Turn off auto-sync, then just drag the tunes you want off the main library to your ipod icon on the left hand menu.

Find the album cover on Google Image search and save it. In Itunes, right-click on a track from the album then 'Get Info' and go to the 'Artwork' tab.

There might be a quicker/easier way of doing it mind.

Slightly different query but on a similar topic - is there a piece of software I can use to copy the music on my ipod back onto a hard drive? As my external HDD has given up the ghost completely and now been replaced, I just don't want to have to download everything again.

Are you using Windows? Easiest way is probably using a program called sharepod. It's free.

Right, I am hijacking this thread for my iTunes question.

I had De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising on my computer and in my itunes a little while ago. About a month ago I discovered it was no longer there, just the track 'Eye Know'. I checked and the folder was still on my hard drive, tried re-adding it with no luck, so deleted it and re-acquired it. It still won't show up in my library though when I try and add it in. Any ideas? So far as I know, this has only happened to this album.

You sure it's not there but named differently?

HA - well played Sam. It's not named differently - it's not named at all! I found the intro track, guess I'll go through track by track and sort them all out. Cheers.

I've used a program called ID3-TagIT in the past and it's reasonable for freeware.

Kind of related question but does anyone know of any really cheap MP3 players that are I tunes compatable?  I say cheap as I use my iphone daily for the built in i pod but I want a cheap one for my holiday as don't want to have my mobile phone anywhere near me.  I don't care how basic as I literally want to listen to music anf thats all.

Just get any old thing which will play AAC format.

If you've downloaded stuff from iTunes way back when then you'll probably need to 'upgrade' some of the songs to work as they are protected.

Do you still have your old Sony Ericsson phone? That'll do it.

I'll look into it Luci, got an idea or two but there isn't anything I can find cheap which plays the correct format.

I think it's more to do with not wanting the expensive phone to get nicked/lost/damaged.

Go old skool and look cool at the same time by buying a 2nd hand iPod Mini on eBay. Should cost £20 to £25.

There's an option to create an mp3 version of songs in iTunes, I've just realised how to do it  :-[

I'd do a system restore and see if the problem goes away.

I take it the drive letter of the ipod hasn't changed at all?

Can you tell iTunes to look for the music on the ipod i.e. add the ipod directory (folder) to the library?

If it creates duplicates you can delete these easily but one thing at a time...

magically it started working again. i hope it's not a one off...

Ummm, that sounds suspiciously like your ipod is playing up. Has it been skipping or locking up? If so I would back it up asap, in fact I would anyway because iPod hard drives always go wrong.

Sorry to bump this thread.

I've been using sharepod transfer songs back from my ipod to my pc. It seems to have partially done the trick, however my ipod has 6,000 songs on it and my library only has 5,000 odd. Clearly not all the songs have transferred back across. Is there any freeware other then sharepod that will allow me to extract all the content and put it back on my hard drive?

A shared library belonging to a Charlotte Burt has shown up on my itunes. I don't know a Charlotte Burt... How do I cut her off completely from my own library? All I can do at the moment is turn home sharing off... Also could she get access to my card details?

Chances are she'll be connected to the same network as you? is it the halls one?

I had that happen, pretty sure they can't get your card details.

Do what I did and facebook stalk her to see if she's hot.

But surely you need approval to share a library with someone...

I found that you could see their library but not steal any music from it.

Which was good as this girls music taste was shite.
