Title: Whingy whingers
Post by: blah blah on Monday, March 8, 2010, 14:40:21
We've all heard them, before all seater stadiums, they used to be confined to the Arkells stand, but they seem to be getting more and more prevalent all around the ground now, particularly in the Don Rogers.

On Saturday, a bloke behind me was quiet for the first 20 minutes then as soon as we went behind started slagging off every player, Douglas being his main target. When I reminded him that before this game we had been unbeaten for 13 games his response was along the lines of "that doesn't matter, this lot are shit!".

My question is, what is the best way of dealing with these situations ? Move to a different seat ? Throw a lighted flare at them (It'll be alright, its not a wooden stand!), etc etc. I ended up feeling more pissed off with this bloke than I did with the result, and now that is making me more angry. Grrrr

Any advice ?

'Wakeman, Wakeman, where's your cape? Wakeman, where's your cape' should shut at least one of them up. After that a flamethrower is probably best.

An axe to the forehead usually shuts these people up.

ignore them, or slag them off so loudly that they hear you.

Stand up so he can't see. When he complains tell him, you're doing him a favour

We had a group of about 5 behind us, last season and the season before. About twelve of us took to mimicking them in thick Swindon accents.

Choice phrases include:

"WAKE THEM UP WILSON, COME ON"
"BLOODY PAYNTER"
"BLOODY RUBBISH"
"BLOODY MCGOVERN"

We simply repeated these phrases when something good happened, or when something bad happened but it wasn't one of the players they hated that made the mistake. Within 3 months they stopped complaining. This year they either didn't come back, or moved to a different stand.

We now have no moaners anywhere near us. 8)

They've paid their money as well, if they want to whinge, rant, rave, cry or whatever, it's up to them.

Get off your high horses.

Arriba proposing abuse to those who whinge is pretty laughable! You must have to have a right old rant in the mirror each morning me old chaaaaaaaap.

Its up to fans to have the guts to support the team.

If you stay silent all the players will hear is the whingers.

Man up. Tell them to fuck off and and take their whinging bitches with them or you'll chin them. If not, then you'll just have to ignore thme or move yourself.

I must own up to having a moan on Saturday, out of frustration more than anything I just couldn't fathom why everything Rovers did seemed to work; none of my angst was directed towards our players I just randomly grumbled now and then  :)

I think we all have a moan from time to time.

Its the people who only ever moan when they speak that's the issue. "The Coach" that sits a few rows in front of us is an example. He's getting on, maybe he's been ground down over the years and that's how we'll all end up eventually. Maybe that's what's happening to Reg now!

If he thinks Douglas has been rubbish this season, you could probably get him sectioned.

I can't remember hearing any whinging in the Arkells stand this season.

In fact the only whinging I ever hear is from you lot whinging about whingers.

Change seats. Shout at them. Put up with it. Do whatever. But stop whinging about it.

There was a guy sat at Franchise with long shaggy hair last night with a bold bloke and a guy in a green jumper, he was practically having a breakdown from the first minute shouting abuse at our players and at Wilson, what an absolute tool whats the point in coming at all just to do that for 90 minutes.  Lots of us around him started disagreeing with him but he couldn't see at all that he was well over the top, it was embarassing he lost it that much.  The fans really need to stay with the team at the moment, for us to do well this season its important we stay behind the team.  Last night was not acceptable from our fans far too negative, far too critical and not enough support.

Yes just looked up a picture of rick wakeman and he looked exactly like him, I had to move second half as he was winding me up so much, the bloke is an absolute twat of the highest proportions.

He sits in Oxfordshire Red territory.

Yes he was there as well, all 3 of them all game did nothing but whinge.  At one point he said here comes Billy with his pace and Billy then skipped past 3 of there players and he sat there looking embarassed that he made his comment a little too early.  People gave them stick for being too critical but they didn't seem bothered, Wakeman looked close to a breakdown or heart attack, he needs a new hobby I think as football doesn't seem right for him, god knows what he was like in a shit season.

I don't sit far from there about 10 rows in front so thankfully hes not within ear shot at home games.

Those pair of cnuts and another. We just shout them down with the occaisional fu*k off.
They used to have a trend. Any ex player from Bristol or any association with Bristol they would start even before a ball was kicked.

Presumably disgruntled by Wilson's City past then.

They're entitled to their opinion, as is anyone. Did they leave before the end on Saturday, like some of our 'proper fans' ?

Maybe not but if they would have left at least they would not have got on the player's backs during the game. Same as last night. Shouting "send him off" to the referee wishing Pericard was sent off and we were down to 10 men.
Players need support.

Agree people are entitled to their opinion but is there sense in booing your own players are wishing them sent off ?

Andy Gurney was wrong all of those years ago at Cheltenham and he admitted that but maybe sometimes its over the top. Oh dear another ex Bristol lad.

I'm just across the gangway from them in V181. I just blot them out unlike my brother in law who only goes occasionally but was going to take them out one game last season. He's 6 4 and built like a brick shithouse and had a very bad attitude towards them.

You must sit a couple of rows in front of KOT, I am in the back row about 30 seats to your right. I watched the Woking game last season roughly where you sit and I think I was sat behind the man in question. He stood up a lot, but I didn't hear much from him. It was the same game that Dave was sat across the gangway from me and spent most of the game playing with his phone  :)
