Interesting to read Leeds fans views on whether we are a threat to their position at the top?

Shame we couldnt have played the away game in recent weeks with their bad patch of form

Very interesting. IMO we are a genuinely great team as proved by the fact we can be not at our best and still win by more than 1 goal. We have got ourselves into a position where we are now rightly aiming to get an automatic promotion place.

March is the test for us with all those away games and the derby against Rovers.

I am chuffed they are worried about us. They should be worried.  :D

Somebody on that thread made this point, which I hadn't seen before, but is a good one (if it's true): "Swindon have 9 games to play away and only 6 at home."

And still quite a few big teams to come - we're not there yet by some way.

Whilst our March fixtures look like they will define our season Leeds have a similarly difficult run coming up.

Huddersfield (A),
Southampton (A),
Millwall (H),
Norwich (A) and
Swindon (H)

So some of the top 6 will be losing points over the next 5 games, we are entering a critical period!

Because they're Leeds' "cast-offs"

Although I know quite a few Leeds fans who would have Lucas over Ankegren in a heartbeat.

We should bring back the Gladiator theme as run-out music and get a Brian Blessed soundalike to do the tannoy. So we could be properly initimidating. Or slightly camp

Jackett and Parkinson live in the studio and in the conversations, we're not mentioned at all.

I'm quite happy for us to continue to be under the radar, with other clubs, other fans and

As much as i like Mark Clemmit and i really do as a reporter,he's way too pally pally, with his

we need a large degree of objectivity and sense of investigation.

Yes, but that's the same with most sports reporters. They look on themselves as sports writers really, not full on journalists, so with a few honourable exceptions (David Conn springs to mind) when there's a need for serious investigative work or a hint of criticism which goes beyond "Refs should be better/Benitez didn't buy well/Where have all the English keepers gone", most of them are completely at sea

They are indeed first and foremost sports reporters.I agree entirely that the excellent David Conn
and also Graham Spiers, aren't afraid to go where others fear to tread and should be applauded for

A Thread on BBC 606 by a Millwall fan analysing the top 7

3 Promotion places up from grabs - 7 teams left.

Norwich : Seem to be getting the rub if the green. Pre-season favourites for promotion and in their own hands.

Leeds : The other pre-season favourites, been through a shakey period and panic is evident with the doom and gloom on their board this week - Has their blip finished or are they only half ay through it?

Colchester : The suprise package? Long ball isn't pretty to watch, but seems to be working for them. Will that swamp of a pitch be there undoing though as their fixtures pile up?

Swindon : Another suprise package? Again a team that favours the long ball method, but have they got what it takes to go the distance?

Charlton : In the top 2 for most of the season, but is the inexperience of their manager starting to show? Another team whose fans are getting worried.

Huddersfield : Starting to get the results away from home to show their credentials. Will Yorkshires biggest club go the distance?

Millwall : The leagues form team. Was the defeat by Wycombe their blip? Put an end to the MK hopes last night.

I like the way he has them down as the form side we have lost once in 17 games and Uddersfield are 10 unbeaten. ::)

Its always the same, if a team are doing well and you don't know why, say they play long ball.  Usual bollocks.  Lets just see how far our 'long ball' has got us by the end of the seasoin as opposed to the silky skills of Millwall.

We're already reaching the nervey part of the season.

I must admit I have doubts as to whether we have it in us to go to Leeds, Southampton, Colchester and get something. Even Franchise and Millwall are hard to call.

March, as mentioned, is crucial.

A lot of the problems with judging other teams is that most people don't really see them play that much and instead base their opinion off of little clips on TV or how they've played in previous years and the label they've been given.

Probably the thing that has surprised me the most this season is our passing game which has been sublime in plenty of games and is more akin to a top half Championship side. I'll often watch in awe having to pinch myself to make sure it isn't a dream - we've played some of the best football I've ever seen us play in any division. Though my memory isn't what it used to be.

Bang on. To put it in terms the Leeds bottlers might recognise "We're living the dream". Difference is, we can afford it.

Another 20 points from 15 games should definitely see us into the play offs, so 5 wins and 5 draws would be enough. Depends if we are happy to settle for the play offs, get there and fancy our chances over 2 legs or do we want to really go for one of the auto places. That maybe means pushing for wins in games when we're level or do you settle for a point. 0-0 at Elland Road with 10 to go, what do you do?.

I remember in 1993, Hoddle eased the foot off the gas and settled for the play off places and let West Ham in for the auto place (Pompey still hate us for losing at home to West Ham on TV that year) so we got there comfortably, rested a few players towards the last couple of games and then you go again

Can't help but think back to what a Bristol City fan I know said that Wilson is naturally cautious and will always just miss out rather than gamble. I did kindly remind him that if he wanted any advice on winning Wembley play off finals then Swindon would be happy to offer advice.

The support (in fan base terms) is there, they just don't appear at the CG week in week out. I'm not from Swindon and have never lived there, stopped going for 7 or 8 years up to 2006 but am hooked again. They'll come back.

I hope you're right. Like I said in another thread, I was pleased to see so many kids in the family section on Saturday - hopefully the combination of attractive football and a successful team will get more people coming back.I just hope AF and DW stick around long enough to make it happen.

Theres a group of kitchen fitters who come in at work. They live in places like Gorse Hill, Eldene, Westlea etc, none of them go to watch Swindon and usually they ask me about STFC. But I noticed on wednesday about 8 of them all started talking about it without me, saying how good the team looked and how they could pip Leeds for the automatic place. Seemed pretty excited by it as well.

They probably work about 65 hours a week (including travel), and some of them have young families. In the past, I think it was more acceptable for men to work long hours and then go out for football as well. Whereas now the woman has a job, and want the men to stay at home/go shopping on saturday.

Men cant just do what they want anymore.

Under Macari the football was dire at times...but he got results and promotion, and ultimultly the fans returned, the same will happen under Wilson regardless of the style of play.

True. But I'd rather watch us win playing the sort of football we're playing now. And it pisses me off when some fuckwit who hasn't seen Swindon play this season describes us as "long ball".
