Title: Our pitch
Post by: Sippo on Sunday, February 21, 2010, 15:06:20
can I just say how magnificent our pitch looked yesterday considering all the crap weather. Well done to the ground staff. definately contributes to the way we are playing. Keep up the great work.

Watching some of the highlights on the league show, and some of the pitches, especially plymouth, were absolutely shocking.

I'm so glad we never ended up ground sharing with those egg chasers!

To be fair, it's going to be much harder to maintain a pitch in the North West because of the weather. Having rugby matches on it obviously won't help either.

that's cos the pitch is a hybrid grass a mix of Bluegrass,Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent and Northern California Sensemilia - mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
(Thanks to Carl Spackler)

The rugby is the killer.  Other teams up there haven't managed too badly!

It is pretty good even up close. We help out on matchdays for about an hour after the game to repair the divots  which helps a lot but Marcus has done a great for the last 2 seasons. Hopefully he'll get something in the annual league 1 awards.

Having just watched MOTD2, I have to say that Wigan do indeed have a shocking pitch. Was more like a non-league ground. Or something from decades past!

Our pitch is amazing. Should be pitch of the year I think.

Wigan always seems to be shit in the Premier League that said I guess they do play rugby on it.

It had nothing to do with the rugby the other season when they put that heating thingy on the pitch which gave the pitch a fetching orange stripe!

It's good to be different.

Listening to the commentators on the radio yesterday, they thought Wigans pitch was atrocious and not good for a Premiership club and stated: Premiership sides pay millions for players and have huge wage bills, but sides like Wigan cant fork out 100,000 each season for a decent pitch, this should not be acceptable and just like the seating and match day facilities for sides in the Premier, the pitch should also be to a high standard.

How times change. Manchester United and Chelsea have had awful pitches. Not so long ago either.

I think the Football League has told clubs they HAVE to own their own covers to cover the WHOLE pitch to prevent damage from snow so that should help with the rubbish pitches.

They had terrible pitch problems - but didnt they have them relaid continually during the season. I can remember seeing Old Trafford as a mudheap then three weeks later a beautiful green surface.
