Title: The big day!
Post by: Compo on Friday, February 19, 2010, 07:35:31
Forget weddings etc............... this is way bigger.

Its going to be a very big day for my little lad!

Its going to be his first match ever this Saturday (if its not too cold), he has only just turned 4.

He is so excited, bless him.

Anyone sat around P58 in the Shriv rd end (its still called that to me), come and say hi to Swindon's newest supporter, Daniel C......... (the little guy with a dark red beany hat).

Marvellous. I hope he enjoys his first game. I can't wait to bring my little lad to the CG, but as he's only just turned 1, he'll have to wait a little longer......

That may ruin the "dont talk to strangers" lesson that kids of that age should be learning. Hope he enjoys his day and that we score loads of goals.

My lads first game was around the same age. After 5 minutes he wanted to go home and spent the rest of the game moaning and fidgiting and asking if I could take him to the toilet.

Is 2nd game was when he was about 7.

I can still remember taking our little un to his first game, Grimsby at home.

His first comment when we got into the ground was "they've got two goals", because on the TV (and in our back garden) you only ever see one :).

The other thing he kept asking was "which one is Alan Shearer", because he thought Grimsby were Newcastle Utd.

Best thing was that we won 2-0, and if I remember rightly Iffy & George Ndah scored.

I'm sure he was about 3yrs old for that, and he's still coming to games

my lads first game was a week or two short of his 4th birthday (west ham pre season friendly).he was more interested in the crowd than the game though..

I hope mini compo enjoys it. Bennett will be the foul-mouthed jewish-looking chap a few rows back.

Took my 2 to the Millwall pre season friendly a couple of years ago....

Both fell asleep in the second half - when we equalised I couldn't stand up as they didn't even have the grace to wake up !

Last time either of them went - I enjoy my Saturdays as my "free time" nowadays :)

Took my eldest, Alice, to the southampton game as her first one.  At half time she was crying because she was bored and wanted to go home.  Had to buy her sweets, chips and a drink and move down towards the pitch to persuade her to stay.  Bribery works.

Shes been to one more since then, the wycombe game where we conceded late.  That was a test of not swearing in front of her I can tell you.

She now had a Nintendo DS so I may be able to take her again!

My younger son made his debut aged 9 v Stevenage in the infamous cup game, not surprisingly he was in no hurry to come back.

About 5 years later, circumstances meant a Boxing Day trip to Rushden....we were terrible, he's clearly a Jonah...

Hope the little fella enjoys it.

Big day for us as well - it's my 8-year-old daughter's first trip to the County Ground (took her to Fulham and she loved it so much she wants to go again). I take it there's still a family section in the Arkell's?

Just hope it's not too cold and the game's not too dull!

Hope the little fella has a great day out.  I have recurring nightmares that my two (both much too young to go yet) will end up supporting Chelsea despite my best efforts at indoctrination.  Any hints you could pass down would be welcome.

Their dad attending games might be a step in the right direction....

That really hurt.

Anyway.  I went to Brentford in October.  So what are you talking about?

Lock them under the stairs and only let them out for Town games. If we win let them out for the rest of Saturday. if we lose or draw then they go straight back under the stairs. i'm sure they'd appreciate going to the games and would have no concept of Chelsea unless we played them.

Haha at first i thought the 'sweary Emo' comment was directed at myself, as i sit a few rows in front of your lot!

I will have to tell my foul mouthed friend to tone down, as he often stands up when all's quiet, and shouts a few 'home truths' towards the match officials/opposition players...

Except my first game, I'm pretty sure the only games my old man took me to in the early years were "Kid a Quid" promotions.

I hope they have a good time compo.

Hope he has fun.

My older boy is in his third full season aged 9. My younger boy is in his second full season aged 7.

They just love coming, and even when the football hasn't been great they approach the CG full of blind optimism for every game.

It's going to be cold tomorrow - a flask with hot squash is good. You will probably end up with him sat on your lap, which is fine until we score.

Those days were great! Having no real knowledge of the ins and outs of whats going on with the teams politics   but just pure belief that Swindon will smash the opponents into oblivion 5-0

Have fun!

My lad got his first season ticket last season, though he only went to about 10 games I think. He was 4 then. And like Herthab it was a mixture of fidgeting, toilet breaks and "is it over yet".

We ended up taking the Nintendo DS 'just in case', which he ended up playing a fair amount of the game. So I asked him why he bothered to say he wanted to come in the first place. "It's better than shopping with mummy". Can't argue with that.

This season he's really got into it though. In fact I can hear him singing Charlie Charlie Austin" right now. An my wife saying "oh no there's two of them now." Well love it'll be three of us when the youngest gets a bit older. Mwhahahahahahahaha.

PS. His first game was the 6-0 demolition of Port Vale. I hope you bring similar luck!

Dan loved it.......... managed the whole match, with a bit of bribery (chocky buttons).

That's a brilliant pic - glad he enjoyed it.

My 8-year-old girl's hooked as well after her first visit to the CG - she sang the 'Super Billy Paynter' song all the way home (and only occasionally changed it to 'Super Billie Piper'). And she thinks Charlie Austin is the best player in the world after he put his thumbs up in our vague general direction at the end of the game.

Apart from the result, the really pleasing thing was the number of enthusiastic young kids in the family section. Wish the little buggers would learn to sing in time, though.

I haven't got the slightest clue what my first game was and neither has my dad (he only ever went when I badgered him anyway). I feel I've missed out.
