Title: Cover versions Post by: wiggy on Friday, February 5, 2010, 10:36:27 Off sick today, so time to do a list.
What are the best cover versions that you have in your record collection? Versions that either added a new slant on the original, or faithful replicas. The top ten from the cd rack next to my pc: Pogues - Dirty Old Town (orig Ewan McColl) Soft Cell - Tainted Love (orig Gloria Jones) Hendrix - All along the watchtower (orig Bob Dylan) The White Stripes - I just don't know what to do with myself (orig Tommy Hunt?) Aretha Franklin - Respect (orig Otis Redding) Bjork - Oh So Quiet (orig betty Hutton - called "Blow a fuse") The Beatles - Twist and Shout (orig The Top Notes) Creedence Clearwater Revival (orig Dale Hawkins) Robert Wyatt - Shipbuilding (orig Elvis Costello) The Communards - Don't leave me this way (orig Howard Melvin and the Blue Notes) The Specials - A message to you Rudy (orig Dandy Livingstone) Four Men and a Dog - Waltzings for Dreamers (orig Richard Thompson) Title: Re: Cover versions Post by: Nomoreheroes on Friday, February 5, 2010, 10:52:34 Walk On By - The Stranglers

If you haven't heard of them they are well worth checking out, chances are you've already heard one of their covers as they get used a lot in films and tv.

Title: Re: Cover versions Post by: Barry Scott on Friday, February 5, 2010, 17:21:33 This is properly cliched and annoying, since the tune is no doubt quite fashionable now, but I've got quite a thing for Florence and The Machines - You've got the love. Not a patch on the Source's "Now Voyager Mix", which is completely off the brilliance scale, but still a very good cover of Candi Staton's original.
Title: Re: Cover versions Post by: jonny72 on Friday, February 5, 2010, 17:23:23 but still a very good cover of Candi Staton's original. Actually, the original was released by The Source Featuring Candi Staton and not Candi Staton. Not a patch on the Source's "Now Voyager Mix", which is completely off the brilliance scale, but still a very good cover of Candi Staton's original. That's definitely a great cover, I prefer it to any of the other versions to be honest.Title: Re: Cover versions Post by: Saxondale on Friday, February 5, 2010, 17:30:37 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opGVdOIeuUQ

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXk_KVNfInU I hated the original by King's of Leon, so anything would be an improvement, but this version is bloody ace!
