Indeed, so this would go to extra time, but no penalties now. Very good start.

A penalty would've sufficed, but thanks to FIFA's 'double whammy' rule they get double the punishment.

It'll take something for Blackburn to come back again now.

Horrible, horrible rule.

Good game though :)

Horrible, horrible rule.

I don't mind sending the player off if the incident is outside the box, but when it's inside they are effectively replacing one one-on-one with another...the penalty.

Villa will know one more goal will put the game out of reach, especially with Blackburn down to 10.

The last man rule is a good one outside of the box, otherwise you'd have professional fouls all over the shop, whenever anyone gets through on goal (I remember Donkey getting away with one in Leeds that was rather naughty) but inside the box, the penalty is enough unless it's a particularly bad foul.

arse now back on level terms.

In rather dodgy circumstances as well, bit of a horror foul from Gallas in the buildup apparently.

I hope we're never rich enough that we give out free scarves / flags to every fan that passes through the door. Villa fans look like a bunch of Lemmings with those flags, same as Chelsea / Arsenal.

It was 4-2 when I started writing. 5-3 now

Leaving his game aside, he's probably in the best form of any of the English qualified goalkeepers apart from Hart. I'd probably take him as one of the three.

As it's the 50th League Cup competition, the FL are running a competition to vote for your favourite LC moment and a certain game from '69 gets a mention...
