Title: Leeds Game Post by: The Grim Reaper on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, 17:56:59 Just got my tickets for The Town End for this game and the guy in the ticket office says over 13,000 tickets sold now with Leeds selling out their allocation. Possible full house on the cards for a night game should make a wicked atmosphere!

I hope that's okay ;) That's different Rich you live god knows how many miles away. It's the people of Swindon who don't bother going to any other games in a season other than this one that piss me off. The Town End is not normally that busy where I sit these days. But I can guarantee that when I get inside the ground on Tuesday night some dick will be there in my seat. I'll happily tell them that it is my seat and show them my ST. Will be crammed in there. Remember against Southampton it was like being boxed in behind the goal. Yet the very next game against Southend I could have had 3 seats all for myself. Don't get me wrong I'd love us to get bigger crowds but on a weekly basis and not for 2 or 3 games a season where people turn up and don't even have a clue who our number 2 is for example. Just annoys me. Rant over. Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: LucienSanchez on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, 19:44:05 I do find it strange how Leeds is a big draw for some fair-weather fans these days... it's not as if they have any 'names' or owt.
A good performance, coupled with our current form could get a few people along for future games though. Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: westcountry on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, 21:51:02 Nothing we weren't already expecting. Bloody part-timers. So if i don't manage to get a ticket i won't be too happy >:( Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: leefer on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, 21:58:57 Theres still plenty...fair play on the away matches, you are starting to get the rewards for loyalty.

A good performance, coupled with our current form could get a few people along for future games though. I'm the opposite, very little interest in being squashed in and getting grumpy, so avoid the big home ones, also i think witnessing our 4-0 tonking years ago, might have given me an aversion to watching us against leeds. If you ask them they won't claim to be fans either, I know a few who are interested in going but have teams thank you very much. Has nobody every gone to watch another game that Swindon were not involved in?
To be honest, it's money in our bank, so who gives a fuck why they come. Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: wiggy on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, 23:43:49 The only thing that will annoys me about playing Leeds at home is that it seems to be the only game of the season where there will be away supporters in with the home fans who will cheer if Leeds score.
Had a whole family of em in front of us last season. Wankers Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: Rustle on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, 23:56:06 Are sure that's not like their version of the junior robins Wiggy, years ago when my boy was a youngster we was given free tickets for the family stand away to blackburn, when we got to ewood park their family stand was the upper tier at other end from the town fans.
We happened to get the same reaction as you're talking about from their fan's,about fifteen of us was in our colours surrounded by a mass of blue and white.I think leeds and other clubs may do the same thing, being a school night tho you may find it different this time around. Personally I'll never understand why people feel affilliated to a club from another part of the country that they have absolutely no connection with, but it seems pretty common in the UK :) . I go to my local pub to have a beer and watch a game and it always makes me chuckle inside when I hear "come on United" in a strong west country burr. Each to their own ::)

Each to their own ::) You say it's common in the UK, and you're right. However, I wouldn't say it's more common than elsewhere, and I think one of the things we can hold on to in this country is that we have the best supported lower league system in the world. Germany, Italy, Spain...once you get outside the top division or two there's not a lot going on.Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: jonny72 on Thursday, January 21, 2010, 01:23:35 Personally I'll never understand why people feel affilliated to a club from another part of the country that they have absolutely no connection with, but it seems pretty common in the UK. I reckon its a lot less common here and at least they do it with clubs in the country they live in. There might be a lot of "fake" Man Utd fans in England, but that's nothing compared to the number in Asia. Don't forget either that the Premier League is a lot bigger in the other main European football countries, than any of their leagues are over here. I can't be arsed watching any foreign football but everybody loves the Premier League. I was watching a magazine style programme for La Liga or Seria A, and they were saying loads of supporters there like to keep up to date with the Premier League as its like a soap opera. Not sure that's a good thing, but still. Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: Phil_S on Thursday, January 21, 2010, 04:26:56 I'm bringing along 3 friends who support other clubs. I also got them along to the Southampton game. That's £22 x 6 into the clubs bank account.
More importantly their is a chance that one who supports Chelsea, would get a season ticket for the Town if the deals right. The way I look at it, we need bigger gates, & dragging a few mates along initiallly to high profile games can only help that Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: Power to people on Thursday, January 21, 2010, 08:40:07 Nah, you do get plenty of Leeds fans dotted around in the home end. The steward then took him away, presumably to another part of the ground. Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: Power to people on Thursday, January 21, 2010, 13:38:59 I think if fan;s are found to have purchased tickets for the wrong area of the ground then insteado f being put into the correct end they should be kicked out of the ground, the know when they purchase their ticket where they wil lbe sitting so there is no excuses, if opposition fans are found in the home end and sit there quietly and don't start jumping around to support their team then fine it's not a problem but the opposite just causes problems.

If we beat Leeds they are really rocking and Norwich and Charlton could overtake them in the next week. So many Leeds fans i know who are constantly winding me up :( I sit next to one in English Language, have one on my group of friends at college, know three from my secondary school days, and i know like 10 over the internet ... Every single one of them has predicted a Leeds win, nows our chance to show the lot of them :) Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: grubby on Sunday, January 24, 2010, 21:31:00 If anyone knows where I can get odds for Sheehan getting a red, let me know. That's if he's allowed to play?
Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: Processed Beats on Sunday, January 24, 2010, 21:32:10 He's injured, but wouldn't have been allowed to play anyways
Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: Ginginho on Sunday, January 24, 2010, 21:32:59 If anyone knows where I can get odds for Sheehan getting a red, let me know. That's if he's allowed to play? I'll give you 10,000-1. He's out for 6 weeks with a hamstring injury. Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, January 24, 2010, 21:33:37 That reminds me of the bet I made with STFC_Dave about Cox scoring
Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: grubby on Sunday, January 24, 2010, 21:34:12 Haha, only got back from USA at the weekend.

Fantastic when you take into account that Cox scored a hattrick against Northampton 3 days after the Hereford game and before Dave made the bet :D Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: chalkies_shorts on Sunday, January 24, 2010, 22:06:55 One would hope they might underestimate us. We're only shitty little Swindon.....get in their faces, wind up Beckford early doors and we can win this. 3-1. The problem is the complete reverse - we always over estimate them, play shit and get stuffed because they're Leeds. We're far too respectful of big teams - hopefully Soton put an end to that. Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: Barry Scott on Sunday, January 24, 2010, 22:12:30 Last season's game made me so angry, that i want revenge for that. I also think our current team is mentally better than anything we've had before. I can only see them being properly up for this and really motivated.
Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: yeo on Sunday, January 24, 2010, 22:33:49 Im going,I'm a loyal supporter me.
Leeds home Southampton home another home game that was really really boring and I left 10 minutes into the second half but I cant remember who it was against. Fulham away and to come Leyton Orient away next month.. oh and Wembley for the PO final. 8)Hardcore Supporter Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: DV on Sunday, January 24, 2010, 22:40:00 I dont get all the hype around this game.
Its worth 3 points to us - just like any other game. Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: yeo on Sunday, January 24, 2010, 22:47:07 Im only going because Fred gave me a freebie.
But obviously playing Leeds in front of a near full house is a more attractive prospect than Stockport or Colchester in front of 6000 so stop with the "Mr Swindon Town " crap eh Dave Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: Spencer_White on Sunday, January 24, 2010, 22:48:30 I dont get all the hype around this game. Its worth 3 points to us - just like any other game. Dave Computer Says Its Just 3 points. Could be worth 6 if Leeds keep choking? Not to mention the unbelievable luck theyve enjoyed at our expense. Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: Rich Pullen on Sunday, January 24, 2010, 22:57:22 People don't like to admit it but visits by teams like Leeds always generates excitement. The same applied for Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest and Southampton. I'm sure Charlton will be the same.
Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: wiggy on Sunday, January 24, 2010, 23:12:36 Big crowd under floodlights. What's not to like?
Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: Arriba on Sunday, January 24, 2010, 23:18:56 the town end was rocking that day - a proper standing, shouting, chanting terrace, sucking the goals in and then blowing them out as the wee man Strachan threatened around our defended final third. was all about the shrivvy road back then.the atmosphere came from there, and nothing has come close since those days.the townend was busy and sang, but christ was it rocking in the shrivvy road.my best years watching town easily.More of the same please! anyone who thinks the singing between the don rogers and townend now is good should have heard it back then.loud as fuck! Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: SCM on Sunday, January 24, 2010, 23:32:03 Leeds are signing Gradel tommorow, which is a bit of a bastard.

Its worth 3 points to us - just like any other game. Top of the table team is always the team to beat. To do it in front of their large away support would be sweet. Oh, and Ken Bates is a cunt. Though we never beat Leeds :( Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: jimmy_onions on Monday, January 25, 2010, 09:18:11 Shrivvy road, yep, definitely the place to be back in the day. What Id give for that atmosphere at the cg these days. I remember back in macari days, there used to be a lad sat on fence in the shrivvy, back to the game, conducting the shrivvy road masses in song.. all together now.." Lou Macaris red and white army..." (though I apprecaite yourself and arriba maybe talking about a time before that) and just to get back on thread, yep, Leeds, well up for this... Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: pauld on Monday, January 25, 2010, 09:27:04 I dont get all the hype around this game. Added to all the other reasons everyone else has given, it'll bring in loads of the casual/missing thousands support who don't normally come. So an opportunity to impress them and make them think about coming more often/tempting season ticket offers etc. So we'll fuck it up, as usual :)Its worth 3 points to us - just like any other game. Title: Re: Leeds Game Post by: juddie on Monday, January 25, 2010, 10:35:36 so, so excited about this game... full house under lights, us against them in a game that means something at the top of the table. And we have more of a chance of winning against them than the previous encounters. Bring it on, can't wait. Although Paul D's right, we'll probably chuff it up.

Those little cordoned off terraced areas in the shrivvy were jam packed with what I would call 'lads'
Got me thinking about the trend nowadays to making football a family game, and make so and so club a family club. Fuck that. Football is a man thing, its a an opportunity for a little release for testosterone ridden chaps like myself. I have wife and child at home and do all that family nonsense there, for football I want: lads, beer, singing, chanting, pissing, smoking, swearing, scuffles with away fans etc etc. THen, when its all over, home to domestic bliss. no offence jfw.
