Yes extended highlights and probably Jed Pitman again. At least they'll talk about us a bit more although they do sometimes on the FLS anyway. Just think they'll bum Shitty again.

Haven't we already established Jonathan Pearce is doing it? He is Brizzle, so I expect they'll be the main game most weeks, but then again, they are a division above us.

I don't care if they are a division above us. Doesn't make a difference as all local sides should be covered from City to Cheltenham.

At least Pitman won't be doing it. He does do some of the commentary or narration on the FLS though so I was worried he'd be doing it.

Has there been any mention of it going on the Beeb sport website for those out of the region and who have to put up with other regional shite football?

Late Kick Off will feature in depth coverage behind-the-scenes with the teams, players, managers and backroom stories from Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham Town, Swindon Town, and Yeovil Town together with teams from the South West and South.

The show, which starts on January 18 on BBC1 at 11.35pm, will get right to the heart of local football with a mix of discussion, opinion, interviews and match analysis.

More than just a highlights programme, it promises to get to grips with the issues fans want to talk about as well as giving some insightful reports both on and off the pitch.

Jonathan Pearce, a well known voice from BBC’s Match of the Day will bring his own sporting expertise to the programme, and if that’s not enough football broadcasting royalty the show’s co-executive producer is his Match of the Day colleague John Roder. Andy Steggall is producing the show and is co-executive producer.

Jonathan will be joined each week by different names and faces from the world of football to talk about the weekend’s biggest games.

Plus he’ll be getting the latest on football life in the West with regular guest presenters Saints player and former Reading skipper Graeme Murty and former Torquay boss and ex Bristol City player Leroy Rosenior.

Jonathan said: "I’m delighted to be presenting a football TV programme targeted at my region’s clubs.

"I live in Sussex, was brought up in Bristol, lived my early years in Cornwall and was born in Plymouth!

"The show will bring you all the updated news from your local Football League teams with interviews, goal action and thought provoking comment from our guests.

“Football has been my life since my first connection with Bristol City when I was 12.

"I am lucky enough to be able to commentate on matches and now returning to studio presentation is a bonus on top.”

John Roder added: “Late Kick Off is something that is completely new and it really is good news for Football League fans, a chance to see more of their local teams but in a way they may not have seen before.

"They’ll get to see highlights but we’ll also examine stories and issues of the day from a different perspective, providing high quality sports journalism.”

And fans don’t have to worry about missing a thing as the programmes will also be on BBC iPlayer at www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer.

Late Kick Off complements coverage of the Football League which returned to the BBC in August for the first time since 1988 building on the success of the network highlights programme, The Football League Show, along with live coverage of two Carling Cup semi finals and the League final.

Along with action from the Premier League on Match Of The Day and BBC Radio 5 Live, the BBC provides sports fans with access to all the goals and all the action, the length and breadth of the country.

Late Kick Off will cover all the Football League teams across the South, South West and West including Aldershot, Bournemouth, Brighton, Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham, Exeter, Plymouth, Reading, Southampton, Swindon, Torquay, Wycombe and Yeovil.

There were some additional cameras there on Sat so we might get two minutes... Before Pearce starts his Shitty love in.

Erm, how long is this programme? That's a lot of teams to cover "in depth"...

It's a 30 min programme.Pearce and Rosenior will of course provide the Bristol City love in
and Murty will go on and on about Saints and Reading.

You'll be fine in the North East Rich, because Mark Clemmit is hosting the show in your area.

He's been the best thing about the FL Show.

The nationals stole Clemmit from the North East local news. He was always entertaining during the local sport segment.

Edit: Pearce has already forgotten about Cheltenham in the list of teams :D

...Aand Bristol City first. There's a shock.

what pisses me off is when they say whats going to happen before it does... and so and so goes on to save the penalty, and so and so scores, some of us havent seen these highlights so shut up.

I think what they're trying to do is not duplicate yesterday's Football League Show, and make it more punditry than highlights. Not sure how popular that will be.

Title: Re: new BBC regional football league show

It was just as shite as ITV's regional programme.

All you saw was the same highlights (ie just the goals in our case) as the Football League show.

Waste of time.

Stretching itself too thin.  You cant cover 16 clubs or whatever it is in 35 minutes in any sort of depth.  Pointless.

Totally agree with the last two posts. What I want is a kind of MOTD for our region - extended highlights and chat after. But with such a short show and so many teams it isn't going to happen.

Even the 'mini features' offer little value add of the footballl league show. Pointless.

I've just had a look at some of the other regional shows and the North East one with
Mark Clemmit, was miles better than the South and West.Less teams to talk about,
an indepth interview with former Boro manager Gareth Southgate and a feature on
the Darlo fans.

Don't think I'm going to bother trying to find it to download then.

I do think that the Football League Show is better than ITV's Championship but this could be more to do with us having a good season this year.  However, my grandmother has more knowledge about the football league than Guru Claridge.

Yeah, didn't think it was much good but will give it a few more weeks to see it beds in: I'm not suprised that Clemmit's was much better.

My initial thoughts it that they should spend a lot less of music licensing and more on the pundits: Every match does not need a top 40 hit in the background, whereas somebody needs to teach Graham Murty to speak coherently.

I've no problem with Bristol City going first because, you know, they're a division above us and doing okay.

But it's just another example proving that areas within the media believe football in the South West is not worth focusing on or indeed barely exists!

That show was complete and utter shit, I just can't see the point of it.

Why don't they just make the Saturday night highlights regional? Moving it to a Sunday if they have to.

If it was split into the same regions as we get for news it would be better, as there would be less clubs to concentrate on.

As with ITV, the BBC seem to miss the main point of a football show-namely football! I'd rather have extended highlights of the regions games than listen to a load of pointless crap concerning Tisdale's fashion sense, or whether Poyet prefers Coronation St to Eastenders.

The only people who want to watch a regional football show are fans of regional teams and what we want to see is ours teams.

Agreed.

Atleast make it an hour so we can find out what Wilson's favourite pie filling or sock colour is!

That was dreadful. Pearce looked like Baron Greenback and as usual no one had a clue about the clubs or the players involved. You could better punditry with tarot cards. At least Pitman isn't involved. That is the only wayit could be worse.

Actually got even worse last night. To give just three examples:

1) Wycombe is not in the South and West. Nor are Reading or Milton Keynes, come to that, but if Wycombe isn't southeast, what is?
2) Which fuckwit decided to include Pericard in the "list of players clubs will be worried about someone coming to poach from you in the next week"? He's only just signed for us you dicks
3) The Football League is not "the cornerstone of the whole football pyramid" - cornerstones are at the bottom, that's the whole fucking point.

Dimwits.

Yeah, it was and they managed to get it wrong. I didn't expect us to feature massively as we didn't have a game and so on, but the research for that show is just shocking
