Why would he make a downwards step?

Reading do seem to release/sell a lot of strikers that go on to have good careers, you have to wonder who makes those decisions: Austin, Cox, Darius Henderson, Nathan Tyson...

I expect he'll be heading back to Reading next season for the league fixture.

Its amazing that a lot of supporters and maybe even clubs, think they can pick up our best players on the cheap. They must have all missed the memo telling them about our financial stability.

Austin, the same as all of our players, would be sold for the right price. I reckon the right price for Austin in January would be £1m as he'll be worth that and more in the summer if he carries on his current form. There is no way that any club is going to shell out that much for him so he'll be staying put.

I'm not saying he's actually worth £1m. I just think Fitton will be looking at how much he could be worth in the summer, or the summer after in coming up with the figure it would take for someone to sign him in January.

There is no way Fitton would let him go for say £250k in January.

I know its a new board and all that but we still dont have a good record of holding onto our decent players.

We're a selling club, every player has a price blah blah blah... Selling Austin would be football suicide though.

He wouldnt want to go at the moment, we dont want him to go, he's not going. 

But Fitton has always said that until we get the ground redeveloped etc we will have to sale our playing assests to balance the books. I somehow doubt we'll be selling Austin though. What Fitton will want to do is get the lad tied down on a longer contract and sell at the end of next season if we haven't gone up by then and when his value may be a lot higher.

Austin will go nowhere this month. He's only just made the step up and whilst he's made a great start, other teams will want to see a lot more for him before they'll pay anything like the kind of figure that would draw Fitton's attention.
