Title: January Transfer Window
Post by: Sippo on Monday, January 4, 2010, 17:36:40
I think now that Macca has gone, I would like to see a decent left winger. O'Brien isn't reliable, and Ward is more of a striker although he is doing well when put there.
If Morrison doesn't come back we definately need a centre back as cover.

JFL and Ben 'Lead boots' Hutchinson can go, and others?

I heard we were after Steve Lomas

i'd like us to push the boat out and get a decent centre mid.sign sheehan up and maybe another left mid.offload aljofree and peacock and kennedy on loan if we can get those players i mention and bring morrison back.

Cannot wait for Hutchinson to hurry up and go back to Celtic what utter cack he is!

I would like to see us either loan out or come to a mutual agreement with Casal, Peacock, Aljofree & Marshall.

I think we need a new left back (Sheehan hopefully) Although i heard we are after Michael Rose of Stockport.

We need a left winger as O'Brien is always injured and we definitely need another striker and maybe a centre back if Morrison goes.

I think we're going a bit overboard here really. Hutchinson is almost certainly on his way, Casal would be if anyone wanted him.

Apart from that, I think everyone has a role to play, however minor. Peacock won't get much playing time, but he's clearly a leader and it's important to have a few of those sorts of characters in and around the team. Aljofree, who knows, he's been out injured for so long, but it'd be good to have him back as much as people don't like him, we need cover at the back. For the same reason, LJF should stay, although I'd say he has the potential to be a decent enough player. Similarly, Marshall won't see much action, but his pace will be useful against the slower full backs we come up against, so he's worth having as an option at least unless we can get a new winger in.

Evolution, not revolution please. Sign Sheehan permanently, extend Ferry and Ward's loans and bring in one or two more, in which case a few of the above might be able to go. The one type of player I'd like to se brought it in would be a proper goalscoring left winger- someone like Stuart Elliot was when Hull went up, or like Peter Whittingham does for Cardiff, as that would provide us with the goals from midfield we're looking for without breaking up the Ferry/Douglas partnership. No idea who would be available to fill that sort of role, but I trust Wilson, Ryder and Fitton to bring in the right players, and I think they've proved themselves capable enough in the transfer market.

Andy Monkhouse  :)

The Ward situation presumably wont have been helped by the sacking of Megson.

We have enough Leaders in the team now which is good. The likes of Peacock and Aljofree are on far to much money just to be good in the dreesing room Imo

I agree, I know Peacock & Aljofree are big earners, they are up there with the highest earners at the club if not the highest and they are not needed anymore.

Title: Re: January Transfer Window

If they are on big contracts (and unlike most I have no idea what anyone at the club is paid) what chance do we have of getting rid before the end of their contracts?

I wonder how much Leeds will end up getting for Beckford?

Although hes vital to their promotion push, it would be silly to keep him beyond Jan if hes not willing to sign a new contract seeing as the existing one is up in the summer and he'd walk for free.

Wonder how much Ashley would cough up to get him though!

I reckon he'll end up signing a new deal now Leeds look likely to go up. The paper talk of £3M is surely far too high, he's not even once the player Cox is let alone twice!

Nothing, Leeds have balls - they will keep him no matter what he wants.

They know Promotion is worth more to them than Beckford ever could be.

They aren't a one man team and I think they would get promoted even if he left. I think Beckford's got a bigger reputation in the game than Cox had, so would expect to see him go for more than him. £2-£2.5m seems about right.

Leeds fans on 606 are already looking at his replacement in terms of odds - some interesting names coming up.  Some I feel are a bit optimistic even for them!

Hooper, G 2/1
Sharp, B 5/1
Barnard, L 7/1
Pericard, V 10/1
Jackson, S 10/1
Garner, J 14/1
Bent, M 14/1
Healy, D 16/1
Brodie, R 20/1
Harewood, M 20/1
Vokes, S 20/1
McLean, A 20/1
Camara, H 25/1
Stead, J 25/1
Eastwood, F 25/1
Lambert, R 33/1
Holt, G 33/1
Le Fondre, A 33/1
Hughes, L 50/1

We couldn't sign Le Fondre even if we wanted to as it would be against Fifa rules as he has already played for 2 teams this season and no player is allowed to play for more than 2 teams per season.

There really ought to be a ban on mentioning anything seen on rumours sites.

Can't you get round that by signing the player on loan? I thought the actual rule says a player can't be registered with more than 2 clubs during a season, ie no mention of playing.

In fairness, FM uses one of the most comprehensive scouting networks in the world, and many of the researchers have some form of inside information to the club they are working with.  It's probably the closest we'll ever get to actual figures!

I reckon at least 90% of the things people on here and other forums "know" is probably bollocks, if I am to believe as fact that Lambert was earning twice what Douglas earns, I need figures and a link to the source of the figures.  Without that, I shall presume the posters to be talking absolute shite.

We had two touting for business within a couple of days. The first one was really nice and his line was "keeping local people in work" which was appealing. Plus he had a Geordie accent which makes my woman go damp. He got the business. The price is not much more than the supermarkets (they must be keen) and it's delivered on time with similar sell by dates. The second one was a right aggressive bastard, we couldn't get rid of him. He failed.

Although it is frustrating for us fans Wilson and Co have to be commended for keeping possible transfer targets secret. In the past there always seemed to be someone who was in the know who would post on a forum etc but I think the Theo Robinson episode has made them re-think who they let know the information to stop leaks to the press.

Sounds like the one we had. If we were going to get milk delivered it wouldn't be by him.

I like the way he can play in slow motion, Casal couldn't do that.

Love the wonder "goal" a minute or so in. Didn't check the timer.

Casal couldn't do that.

Casal didn't have Glenn Hoddle's backing. Hoddle has certain contacts that allows his players to defy science.
