Title: Player of the decade Post by: michael on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 11:41:29 Sam Parkin, yes?
Anyone fancy doing an STFC team of the decade? Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: china red on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 11:43:03 Haven't seen a town game in three years but for me it's Parkin.
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: DMR on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 11:45:17 SSP
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: tans on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 11:46:18 Van der Linden or Sam Campagna
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: china red on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 11:51:01 Van der Linden or Sam Campagna Doing well for Manchester United and Real Madrid respectively Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 11:51:40 We started the decade on the slide, and have stumbled along since.
There are very few players worthy of an honourable mention when compared to some of the greats of the past. Probably just Parkin and Cox. Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Stef Troll on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 14:32:51 Tommy Mooney
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: The Professor on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 14:37:21 Michael Pook
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Dr Pierre Chang on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 15:41:30 Parkin or Mooney.
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Arriba on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 15:46:03 mooney? dont be so stupid
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Dr Pierre Chang on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 15:48:32 He was a twat for leaving, yes, but can't deny that he was brilliant in his season here.
Of course Parkin is player of the decade, as he scored consistently for three seasons, but he'd have be followed by Mooney or Cox IMO. Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Arriba on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 15:50:39 mooney was good for half a season.shouldn't even be shortlisted for a list
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Dr Pierre Chang on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 15:52:38 How many players can you name who in the last decade for us have had a season as good as Mooney did, though?
There's not many. Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Samdy Gray on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 15:57:59 Migz had more better games than Mooney.
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Batch on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 15:58:26 And Grant Smith had a good half season. And Brian Howard.
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 16:04:15 Mooney? WTF? He only had one season here.
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: DV on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 16:10:25 Stefani Miglioranzi and probably Jerel Ifi to.
I know our fans will always remember the worst of him because thats what we do, but he had his good spells and I expect you all to tell me differently but I dont care. Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Arriba on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 16:28:29 Stefani Miglioranzi and probably Jerel Ifi to. I know our fans will always remember the worst of him because thats what we do, but he had his good spells and I expect you all to tell me differently but I dont care. i wont.he was player of the year league 2 promotion season, and took that form into the season after. didn't last though.still was arguably our best player for a season and a half so that will do for me Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Dr Pierre Chang on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 16:28:48 Who do you reckon is our worst player of the decade?
That is the toughest one to call, too many contenders - Fola, Benjamin, Hutchinson, Slabber, Casal, Mohamed, Nicolua, Thorpe, Jarret. That's just a few. Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Bogus Dave on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 16:29:55 If you're going to do a worst you have to set a minimum appearance limit really. Minimum of 30 appearances or something similar
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: DV on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 16:30:14 i wont.he was player of the year league 2 promotion season, and took that form into the season after. didn't last though. Bloody 'ell Oddly - I was expecting you to be the first to reply to tell he was always shit. Why, im not entirely sure. I was half right!! Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Arriba on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 16:31:41 Bloody 'ell Oddly - I was expecting you to be the first to reply to tell he was always shit. Why, im not entirely sure. I was half right!! nah.i tell it how it is.he was good then shit then good then shit Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: DV on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 16:33:34 Who do you reckon is our worst player of the decade? That is the toughest one to call, too many contenders - Fola, Benjamin, Hutchinson, Slabber, Casal, Mohamed, Nicolua, Thorpe, Jarret. That's just a few. Michael Pook Now only was he bad but he managed to stay here for 6 seasons under 6 different managers and played 127 games. He must have been Pele in training. Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 16:35:19 Michael Pook Now only was he bad but he managed to stay here for 6 seasons under 6 different managers and played 127 games. He must have been Pele in training. I think it was more down to the fact we couldn't afford anyone decent to replace him. Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: DV on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 16:41:26 Yeah we didnt bring in many midfielders while Pook was here
Gareth Whalley, Colin Heath, Neale McDermott, Paul Smith, Andy Gurney, Curtis Weston, Paul Evans, Paul Ince, Michael Timlin, Chris Allen, Craig Easton, Steve Adams, Lillian Nalis, Owian Tudor-Jones and a makeshift Lee Peacock. Of course not many of them were up to much themselves. Infact Lee Peacock probably makes top 3! Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Arriba on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 16:43:31 if we are going for shit players who played loads then alan reeves has to feature.
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 16:51:20 Team Of The Decade
1)Lucas 2)Greer 3)Ifil 4)Cuthbert 5)Howard 6)Douglas 7)Miglioranzi 8)Sammy Igoe 9)Parkin 10)Cox 11)Mooney Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: DV on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 16:52:37 I'd swap Igoe for James Milner!
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Dr Pierre Chang on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 17:03:14 Spot on team, DRS, if your including loaness then Milner would be in there, I know he wasn't here for long. One of the games he had at the CG (Peterborough I think) he was absolutely superb and you could tell he would have a career in the top flight. Capped his performance off with a goal I think.
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 17:06:24 I actually forgot about Milner tbf.Yeah you are both right would have him
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Nemo on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 17:16:35 If we're taking loanees, does Jimmy Davis get in?
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: adje on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 17:16:57 Jimmy Davis was the best footballer we've had this decade in my opinion but SSP would win player of the decade.Worst to have played over 30 games would be Hewlett for me closely followed by Pook
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: michael on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 17:21:35 Interestingly we didn't win a game during James Milner's 6 game spell here, and that was the play-off season so its not as if we were as shite as we usually are.
Very interesting stat that. Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: DV on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 17:22:16 Interestingly we didn't win a game during James Milner's 6 game spell here, and that was the play-off season so its not as if we were as shite as we usually are. Very interesting stat that. Interestingly, you are talking total bollocks. Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: michael on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 17:24:27 I am aren't I.
Apologies. Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: DV on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 17:24:34 Brighton away 2-2
Wrexham home 1-0 Grimsby away 2-1 Barnsley away 1-1 Peterborough home 2-0 Luton home 2-2 Won 3 Drawn 3 LOST 0 Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: michael on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 17:25:50 Yeah got that one totally wrong didn't I.
Never mind. Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: adje on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 18:11:59 My team 4-4-2
Mildenhall Dean Marney Jerel Ifil Gordon Greer Sol Davis Jimmy Davis Scott Leitch Stef Miglioranzi Mark Walters Sam Parkin Simon Cox Subs David Lucas Chris Hay Brian Howard James Milner Steve Jenkins Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 18:14:35 I would of had Walters if he played this decade for us. ;)
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: adje on Thursday, December 31, 2009, 18:21:24 I thought he left in 2000-time plays tricks on us old bastards
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: flammableBen on Friday, January 1, 2010, 02:03:33 Ian Woan was a class above most players this decade, just a bit old.
Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: yeo on Friday, January 1, 2010, 02:13:03 I like interesting facts that arent facts 8)
Parkin was probably bestest but my favourite was Fola. Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: flammableBen on Friday, January 1, 2010, 02:22:14 I think that JFL is my favourite. I've probably only seen him play for a few mins which might help. I love him though, he seems awesome.
He's helped us score more goals than he's been the main man at fault for too. People are always so negative. Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: china red on Friday, January 1, 2010, 09:44:27 What about game of the decade and individual performance of the decade?
For me it would be Migz in the 2-2 draw with Leeds United in the Carling cup. The best game would be that Leeds game or the second Brighton game in the playoffs (even though we lost both) Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Rich Pullen on Friday, January 1, 2010, 12:06:59 Yeah got that one totally wrong didn't I. Never mind. My guess Michael is that you were thinking of Michael Carrick who played six times without a win. Player of the Decade is Sam Parkin. 3 Seasons 140+ games 70+ goals Part of the Play-Off side. Winner. Title: Re: Player of the decade Post by: Whits on Friday, January 1, 2010, 12:16:44 surely ricky shakes needs to be there to?
