Fully agree. They've been shit for a number of years..but their has always been 3 worst sides than them, and so keeping them up. The crowds they are getting are shit, and they cannot sell out local derby matches.

After the manner in which Shitty dumped him he's come out with his reputation relatively unscathed.  Hard to see where he’ll go next.  I think it’ll be one of Newcastle, Middles-bleugh or one of the two top Jock clubs.

They're not the worst though. It's Wigan that piss me off. Total plastic club. A lot worse than Reading. The ground is only full when they play a top 4 team otherwise they'd be lucky to get 15,000 in there.

Why should the ground be full? Wigan have the support of a 3rd tier club?

And to be fair to Wigan though two of those clubs, Liverpool and Man Yoo are right on their door step and two of the biggest clubs in the world. So of course the ground is full when they play.

For me a bigger indication of plastic fans is when attendances go up 10,000 when they get Promoted to the Premier League, and that is a lot more rife in the South than it is in the North. Unfortunately it also happened to us, and would happen to us again if we ever get back to the top flight.

Out of Town grounds produce moany fans because you get lots more people who are going to watch football like they would go to the cinema. Whereas inner City grounds you have the people pop along out of habit, sometimes part of a pub crawl.

Since Gartside's comments i've wanted them to go down. I can't help but think that Megson's sacking is unfortunately not a good thing in that respect, as any new manager might buy some decentish player in Jan and save them. Although i can but hope they get in Lawrie Sanchez who spends £20m on Championship has-beens and ensures relegation with a massive wage bill.

In fairness to us our attendances only went up around 4,000 in the top flight on average and we already had a couple of sell outs the season we went up.  In fact, some games only struggled over the 10,000 mark by virtue of us selling around that number of season tickets.  We're not plastic, we're a stubborn bunch - it takes a fucking lot to get us out but most of us hang around even when stripping down some heavily painted victorian doors wouold normally be more appealing.

Oh, and Bolton can go fuck Sunderland and then themselves.

Our attendances the following year made us a laughing stock (remember them taking the piss on fantasy football league). We still had good players, but our attendances collapsed which put the club massively into debt and started the downward spiral towards the bottom division.

If we had been getting 12,000 home fans regularly in 1994-5 then we could have re grouped and had another shot at the top flight within a couple of years. But we had too many plastic fans at most of the Premiership games who didnt stick by the club.

The average of the 1993-4 season is also a complete falacy because they grossly underestimated the attendances at some of the bigger games (in my opinion). But the 1994-5 attendances couldnt be tampered with nearly as much because the CG had become an all seater stadium.

We under declared gates enormously for a long period of time. We weren't alone - the Salve traders and WBA certainly did it as well. Interestingly, QPR used to over declare their gates when they dipped below 10k to make them just over.
