Title: Christmas Shopping Post by: 4D on Thursday, December 24, 2009, 00:18:57 :)
Went to the supermarket tonight for the extra groceries we all buy at this time of year, I couldn't move :( When I got to the tills with my trolley each till must have had 4 or 5 trolleys full to the brim, waiting to be "checked out". How much of this extra "stuff" is actually consumed? Anyone had an eventful shopping trip in the last couple of days? Title: Re: Christmas Shopping Post by: oxford_fan on Thursday, December 24, 2009, 01:12:49 HMV Oxford took £130k today, busiest day of the year.
This talk of supermarkets reminds me, must remind Mother to buy some Baileys tomorrow. I like Baileys at Christmas, despite it apparently being girly. What else is a good Christmas drink apart from the old mulled wine and sherry? I've done two weeks of night shifts so shall be getting ratarsed from 11am on Chirstmas Day. May I suggest the old Rum and Ginger Beer. Wonderful drink that axs introduced me to one night. We called it the Ginger Sailor, but I think it's actually got a proper name. Title: Re: Christmas Shopping Post by: Luci on Thursday, December 24, 2009, 07:33:21 I went to supermarket at lunch yesterday just to buy something cheap & get cashback as I was too cold to go to a cash machine outside! What a mistake, trolley gridlock, trolley rage you name it! Horrendous experience!!!
On another note, rum and Ginger beer is ace. In Australia they sell it pre mixed in cans! Wish they did that here! Title: Re: Christmas Shopping Post by: Sippo on Thursday, December 24, 2009, 10:38:25 I really don't understand it. People buy so much food as if the shops are going to be open for the next week. They're shut for one day maybe two!!
Title: Re: Christmas Shopping Post by: Samdy Gray on Thursday, December 24, 2009, 10:41:38 I'm just throwing this out there, but have you ever though that people might have a lot of other people come to their houses to eat, drink and be merry and therefore they might need more food?
Title: Re: Christmas Shopping Post by: Sippo on Thursday, December 24, 2009, 10:43:43 Some people have three or more full trolleys! Seriously! How much do people really eat?!!

Title: Re: Christmas Shopping Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, December 24, 2009, 14:05:00 Back in the 80's and before, when Swindon's supermarkets consisted of Tesco and Sainsbury in the Town Centre and they closed at 5, and weren't open Sunday, it was proper nightmarish.
Old Town had the Co-Op which occupied a couple of shops in Wood Street...the skills acquired in surviving a rammed terrace, where you'd just get lifted off your feet, then deposited somewhere else essential. It's now a piece of piss.. |
