Swindon Town eyes still on Woking star Arter

DANNY Wilson will try to keep a close eye on Harry Arter during the next few weeks as Town contemplate adding another non-league gem to their ranks in January.

Wonder what we should read into this? On one hand it could be that a deal has already been done so STFC feel confident enough to be able to talk about it, or on the other it could be just a smoke screen. I wonder which?

30k for a Woking player is still something 90% of League clubs would not do, its not like a Theo Robinson situation, who would have been taken on my most lower league clubs.

I think the real story there is the comments underneath and the support that Danny Wilson is getting. He's winning Swindon fans over, you can feel the groundswell of support around the club. Everyone pulling in the right direction.

I agree Spencer. Everytime i've accidently read the comments on thisis, there seems to be a lot of positive comments. Whether that is due to a change in supporter opinion, or due to The Adver bothering to moderate, the tide looks to be changing. Which can only be a god thing.

I think it genuinely is down to a change in opinions. Some of the people who were moaning on there at the start of the season seem to be much more behind Fitton, Wilson and the team than previously, and as you say, it does seem that the whole mood of the club is finally beginning to change after many years. Even during the play-off season there were plenty moaning about King and those behind the scenes (not without reason!) but now everybody seems to pulling together.

Bearing in mind Woking are only 3 levels below us and near the top of their league, £30k seems pretty fair and maybe a bit cheap - dependent upon the terms and any add ons of course. Sounds like our scouting network is working well, I'd imagine we'd been looking at him before the cup game the same as we'd been looking at Austin.

I wonder how much Byrne is involved in recruiting players like Arter? If he is picking up on a couple of good players a year he'll be more than earning his money. I still think Fitton needs to be flashing the cheque book to sign Ferry permanently, even if it costs us Morrison or £500k - it would still be a bargain buy. If that was all we did in January I'd be over the moon.

You're right about the groundswell of support. I lost interest in the club during McMahon's spell after being a regular since the days of Macari, and I can't remember the last time I felt this positive about things - though it was probably when Gorman was in charge.

I'm not sure why, but it feels like Celtic would want more than would make sense to our club. I know he's good, but i'd be very concerned if we paid £500k for him, because that's a significant sum and isn't really in keeping with what we're trying to do. Swapping Morrison with him would be great business i feel, but i think we'd be getting the best of it and couldn't see that happening.

How long does ferry have left on his contract? I thought it was  year if it is then it would be stupid to make a offer when he is out of contract at the end of the season considering he is here on loan for the rest of the season.

I think someone said he signed a new contract before coming on loan. It'd be ace if it did run out the end of this season, but i remember someone saying that was not the case.

The last thing i saw before he signed for us was that Ferry was out of contract in summer '10, but i read somewhere a few weeks ago that he had signed a new contract at Celtic...although none of the fans on any of their forums seem to think he's much cop - compared to Ben Hutchinson who was "unlucky not to get a run in their first team" last season.

Maybe after a year here Ferry will convince celtic to allow him a permanent move.
