I just watched an old episode of Camberwick Green in which, Windy Miller has a few pints of "really strong cider" and then has to sleep it off. When he wakes up he is blatantly still under the influence as he tells everyone you can get the wind to blow by whistling.

The shit would totally hit the fan if something like that was shown on CBBC nowadays. How times have changed.

We had a long and interesting discussion on The Magic Roundabout last night (no, really).

Zebedee would be had up as a peado now and Mr Rusty for bestiality. Dillon would get busted for dope and Bryan would be hounded out of his community for wearing a scarf that obviously denoted an allegiance to a non-politically correct section of society. Florence would get equal time on the roundabout.

Ick.

Younger kids telly is probably better than it's ever been, stuff like Waybullo, In the Night Garden, Timmy Time, Nina and the Neurons and Big & Small are all brilliant. The more classic styled stuff like Bob the Builder, new Postman Pats, Lunar Jim, etc aren't too bad either, although they can be a bit more hit and miss.

Older kids telly really took a nose dive over the last 15 years though. There's still the American Disney imports of stuff like Hannah Montana, but it's all pretty unsatisfying stuff. It's a demographic which has been shifted down and shrunk too much as kids find better things to do.

The last good British productions aimed at older kids were things like Grange Hill, Byker Grove and My Parents are Aliens. The former two took a pretty bad nosedive towards the end of there lives as it was anyway, they were obviously set up to tackle issues aimed at the sort of 12+ range, but none of those kids were watching, making it all a bit pointless.

Blue Peter should have been killed years ago.

My earliest TV memory, was probably watching the very early Gerry Anderson stuff, like Twizzle and Torchy, mid to late 50's.

Jiffy the Broomstick Man, I found a bit scary.

Twizzle? Superb television.  forgot about Jiffy though.  Just about remember Four Feathered Falls and Supercar.
I Don't watch modern children's television, obviously but I would imagine it conforms to the Government doctrines and has the life sucked out of them.

I liked Muffin the Mule....unfortuanatly for me the RSPCA were not amused.
