Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: Bob's Orange on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, 19:28:51 Spoke to a Luxembourger at the weekend who is in London over Xmas. He was asking me about good games to go to and I have persuaded him to come to the Charlton game at the promise of silky football and a great atmosphere!!

Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: lothar on Saturday, December 19, 2009, 10:36:28 I'm in London celebrating Christmas with my siblings so i'll be going to this one. Is it really as much as £25 and from what I gather i'll be able to get into the away end without acquiring a ticket in advance? Thanks for your help.
Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: westcountry on Sunday, December 20, 2009, 18:29:56 I got told yesterday its all ticket for away fans
Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: westcountry on Sunday, December 20, 2009, 20:40:14 Whats the pub situation for this game? open or not? not that there is alot of time for drinking anyway
Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: reeves4england on Sunday, December 20, 2009, 23:35:04 I got told yesterday its all ticket for away fans Charlton's system is usually that you have to have a ticket, but you can buy a ticket just before you get to the turnstile. Worth checking. Not sure what's happening with pubs but I'm sure they'll be open? footballgroundguide.com recommends a few Also, what route are people taking to get there? I really have no idea what's the best way to go. Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: timmyg on Monday, December 21, 2009, 14:26:35 Just got my tickets for this and the guy in the ticket office (which means it's true) said that we've sold around 500 tickets. I suspect that we'll get a couple more hundred turning up on the day? The tickets are no cheaper if bought in advance, so there's no real incentive to do so for most, especially those based in London.
Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: dell boy on Monday, December 21, 2009, 14:29:13 I will be buying mine on the day, really looking forward to it going up with 4 Swindon fans and 3 Charlton. Lots of side bets I'm sure and plenty of alcohol.
Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: herthab on Monday, December 21, 2009, 14:45:05 Knew the turnout for this wouldn't be great. a lot of fans won't be able to convince their other halfs into letting them out on Boxing Day, plus Fulham the following weekend.
Shame really as any other Saturday we'd have taken a large following to The Valley. Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Monday, December 21, 2009, 20:17:51 I hope the weather calms down a bit before Chrimbo. Won't be a pleasant trip down to London in these current conditions that's for sure.
Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: leefer on Monday, December 21, 2009, 20:45:41 Any other day i would be going.
Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: timmyg on Monday, December 21, 2009, 21:10:03 The tubes and rail should be fine.
I think the best way to get there is either on the train to Charlton station (right outide the ground, served by Waterloo East, London Bridge and Liverpool Street) or on the Jubilee line to North Greenwich (a bit further away, but easy enough for pubs and the tube runs every 3-4 mins as opposed to every 15-20 mins for the train). I've been recommended a pub called The Pilot Inn (SE10 0BE) near to North Greenwich station which is supposed to have good food and a full selection of Fullers beers. Where's everyone else going? Not sure how up to date it is, but this is the advice from footballgroundguide.com: Quote from: The Football Ground Guide Simon Phillips informs me that 'The Antigallican, a big pub near Charlton station, seems to be the favourite haunt of away supporters'. However, it can get very busy and this is not helped by the local Police not allowing fans to drink outside. It is a rather basic pub but has real ale available (albeit a lone handpump) and also offers a selection of filled rolls and pork pies. Whilst Colin Gilham recommends the 'Rose of Denmark' on Woolwich Road. The pub not only allows in away supporters but absolutely welcomes them. They have a photo display on the wall of fans from visiting clubs that have frequented the pub this season and it also has SKY television'. Please note that this is a home supporters only pub after the game. To find these pubs come out of Charlton station and turn left into Charlton Church Lane and the Antigallican pub is down on the right hand corner. If you continue down to the t-junction with the Woolwich Road and turn left you will reach the Rose of Denmark further down on the left. There is also the Charlton Liberal Club, to which away fans are welcome on payment of an entry fee of £1. This is more spacious, less busy, has a large screen television and families are welcome. The club can be found by turning right out of Charlton station and walking 300 yards up the hill on the left hand side of the road, past the row of shops. The club is a five minute walk from the away end, but like the Rose Of Denmark, it becomes a home supporters only venue after the game. Robert Taylor adds; 'I would recommend the Pickwick on Woolwich Road, which is about a 10 minutes walk away from the ground. It has a good mix of away and home fans, with a friendly atmosphere (with the usual banter!). There is a huge beer garden where kids are allowed to play football and it has Sky television with a huge projector screen at one end. It has a pool table, games machines and there is a handy chippie right next door'. Alternatively alcohol is available in the away end. Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: Barry Scott on Monday, December 21, 2009, 21:11:55 Thank god for this thread, i had no idea it was a 1pm kick off! I kind of hope it's called off though, only because it's unlikely to have warmed up much by then.
Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: reeves4england on Monday, December 21, 2009, 22:40:52 The tubes and rail should be fine. Great advice, except that there is a minimal train service running on National Rail (one every hour) and the Jubilee Line is closed.I think the best way to get there is either on the train to Charlton station (right outide the ground, served by Waterloo East, London Bridge and Liverpool Street) or on the Jubilee line to North Greenwich (a bit further away, but easy enough for pubs and the tube runs every 3-4 mins as opposed to every 15-20 mins for the train). ;) Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: timmyg on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, 11:42:45 :-[ I hadn't checked to see what services would be running or not.
That makes things a bit more awkward. Presumably there's a bus replacement on the Jubilee line? If not then the one train an hour is going to be fairly full I reckon! Charing Cross it is then Timmyg ! Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: timmyg on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, 12:37:06 Charing Cross it is then Timmyg ! Hmmm. Not sure about that one, as it doesn't apear to be the easiest route and I'm liable to get very, very lost. I think I'm going to aim for the train from Victoria to Charlton (10.15 or 11.15, takes 22 mins) as Victoria is a doddle to get to from where I'm going to be in the morning, straight down the district line. Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: Anteater on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, 13:02:23 Victoria it is then timmyg ! Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: Bob's Orange on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, 09:58:58 Got a couple of tickets yesterday, only sold about 500 tickets. Weather going to warm up on Saturday so no chance of it being off.
Going for pre-match drinks in the Rose of Denmark. Title: Re: Charlton Away - Boxing Day Post by: Samdy Gray on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, 10:12:48 Where abouts is that pub Bob? I don't think we've decided on anywhere yet, so might join you there.

We are driving and hoping to park in this industrial estate place early so hopefully will be pub bound for 12. Meeting a couple of Luxembourgers coming to the game as I have their tickets so agreed to meet at the Rose.
