Is the best roast dinner.

But all other roast dinners are pretty good too.

Beef is fantastic.

It's hard to get a good beef joint out here though as a lot of it is actually water buffalo beef which is nowhere near as good. And Lamb is foookin expensive.

A nice medium beef roast with yorkshires and horseradish tops the roast list.
Although a slow roast shoulder of lamb comes a very close second.

I like my lamb pink. Not as pink as my beef which I like raw.

I tried to Ben, but my neighbours kept complaining about the smell coming from my balcony.

Chicken is my favourite. Or sausages. Beef's alright, got to have good homemade gravy though or it's wasted. Bit of Yorkie's a good addition as well, although Toad in the Hole is better.

I'm gonna phone the old dear and see if she's making one for dinner tonight. :)

"Sausages" aren't a fucking roast dinner. Neither is Toad in the Hole.

Luckily my mum makes the best Yorkshire puddings and I make the best gravy. So such things aren't a problem.

Post by: flammableBen on Sunday, November 22, 2009, 14:09:27
That sounded a bit hostile. Sausages are ace. I haven't had toad in the hole for ages. Used to make it quite a lot.

What? Yes they fucking are!!! Roast the chucker and throw sausages down the sides, sausages with roasts are ace. And toad in the hole isn't part of a roast dinner? I don't know of it's origins and won't use the various search facilities available to me, but i've always had it with roast dinners. :)

Sausages with a roast dinner yeah, but you said "Chicken is my favourite. Or sausages. " like they were the main bit. I presumed the same with toad in the hole. Sorry about the confusion.

Yes sausages are ace with a roast chicken. wrapped in bacon. yum.

Chicken can be nice, but it should only be the top of the list for pretend vegetarians, gays and women.

Actually yeah, i was fucking confusing. In the manner i talked of sausages they're not used. They're not a roast dinner's meat unless you're a fucking heathen. And i'm a gay pretend vegetarian so chicken is ace.

Chicken is great when with another meat.

Asides from that, it should be used only for chips and ruby's.

Just had roast chicken. Prefer beef but as long as it comes with mint sauce man don't give a fuck.

Perfect Sunday. Roast in the oven, the papers, pissing down outside, then a bit of Countryfile, X factor and Top Gear later.

All the tastiness of rare roast beef with really low levels of fat and cholesterol.

Ice-cream?

Yeah, that'd be like pancakes...

Reg, as for wine choice with duck, i'd always opt for a red... don't know what variety though.

Reg, for me it's what you like, not what others think you should have, but there's usually logic behind the experts' views.  I'd say a crisp dry white would cut through the fatty richness of the duck quite well. Wouldn't fancy a heavy red or oaked white with duck.

Each to their own I say.

And concerning roasts, Medium rare beef, then lamb, then pork, then chicken.  Yorkshire pudding with all, mint sauce only with lamb (Sussex)

Mint sauce goes with all (my) roasts neville. It's an extension of the gravy family.

I used to hate red wine, however since I have matured I would say red wine is the bees knees! Apparently you never get a bad Corbieres however Rioja is my favourite wine of all time!!

red with duck. Bad choice Reg!!

I knew this would start a hornet's nest of controversy..

I ended the night drinking a curious mixture of beer/lager/red wine...I hate to see drink wasted and as the lightweight birds I was with had reached their limits, I polished off the leftovers....wasn't bad at all  :)

Red wine is my drink of choice at home usually.
I love a good Merlot or Rioja.
Although tonight i'm drinking a Shiraz unfortunately named Oxford Landing.
It was on offer in the Co-op and is a nice drop :)

Merlot is a good, safe red choice. I had Shiraz for the first time in India. I didn't enjoy it!
