Title: Carlisle Game
Post by: lambourn red on Thursday, November 19, 2009, 13:34:10
Watching the news and they are due to get 7 inches of rain in Cumbria over the next 24 hours , we might be facing another Saturday without a game. >:(

I'm leaving at 6.30 saturday so have a vested interest! My mate who lives up that way has spoken to them, the Ground will be fine, and they are confident it will go ahead. Only doubts are if anyone can get through, the worst of the rain should be done by tomorrow morning so should be cleared up by saturday.

The car park is used to drain flood water apparently, so looks though it's doing it's job.

We have been advised, as at 2pm on Thursday 19 November, that it is unlikely that parking facilities will be available for the Swindon game on Saturday.

Fans are advised to arrive early to seek alternative parking arrangements. Please abide by local traffic and parking enforcement regulations at all times.

Sounds like they are hopeful the game is going ahead but no car park.

73 mph would be a hurricane, Wilson needs to tell he players to keep the ball down.  Playing Macca might be a problem if he gets blown over the stand.

He'd still not win anything in the air.

He'd still not win anything in the air.

He won a header against Norwich.

Just seen the weather forecast this morning, seems Carlisle's flood defences have worked not like other places in Cumbria. Pitch might be playable, but what about access to and around the ground, health and safety for supporters might postpone the game.

Yes, you have to wonder whether they can guarantee. H to get the necessary stewards/police in. Hard to tell how much of Cumbria is badly affected really.

My next door neighbours family live next door to the ground and they say no way will it go ahead if theres any more rain (which is forecast today), their garden is totally flooded and sits higher than the pitch level inside the ground.

I think this game will be a no go.

The team must already be on their way, if not in the area. They should make the decision today for the sake of the fans (so they'll probably have an inspection at noon on Saturday)

Title: Re: Carlisle Game

They are pumping the water in order to insect the surface underneath (soggy - just a guess). If its marginal they'll surely call it off as soon as given the weather forecast.

You have to salute the pitch design and work the club have put in. To get this game on is an applaudable effort.
Given that honours are even in the last 7 meetings in Carlisle, I guess a 1-1 draw would be the sensible bet, .....but I've never been sensible so I'll stick to 2-0 to Town :)

I'm starting to think he might be.  Loved his second at Brentford...a special goal.  I'm not sure he's been knocking them in as regularly as DW had hoped though.  We do have a decent midfield now, so service is not a problem.

Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Saturday, November 21, 2009, 14:54:59
The only improvement to that lineup would be a decent right sided winger as I think JPM wants to play in the middle these days and he has not got the pace nowadays either to get up and down the flanks unlike Macca

Spot on. If we can get a decent enough RM and a goalscorer (unless Austin does prove to be the real deal) we're looking pretty good.

Thinking about it...there are probably a few Glasgow and Edinburgh based fans who have been eying this fixture up since June!  I certainly remember meeting one or two in Hartlepool a few years back.

I met you a few years back Ardiles at Hartlepool, took my Hearts supporting mate down. Had a great day out despite losing. Bit further to go from Lux now!!

Swindon made an offer for Austin, and a deal was completed on 2 October for an undisclosed fee.[5] He made his debut appearance for Swindon Town in a 1–1 draw with Exeter in the 2009–10 Football League Trophy, replacing Ben Hutchinson as a substitute in the 88th minute.[6]

On 20 October, prior to a reserve team match between Swindon and Plymouth Argyle, Head of Player Development David Byrne revealed in an interview that he believed Charlie Austin would soon get his chance in the Swindon first team.[7] Austin then went on that afternoon to score two goals for Swindon reserves in the 3–2 victory over Plymouth Argyle's reserves.[8] Austin made his Football League debut coming on in the 70th minute in the league match away at Norwich City on 24 October 2009.

Charlie scored his first proffesional goal in only the 3rd minute of his first start at Brunton Park v Carlisle United.

I'd want Casal on before Timlin.

1-0 lead and Timlin coming on automatically makes it 1-1.

I see Millwall also made a £5.2m loss last year, after losing £6.1m the previous year.

His link up play is good, he's a clever player but not a goalscorer. He's a really handy player to have on when defending a lead I think, as he will run his bollocks off. Southend & Brighton certainly rated him, not as a goalscorer obviously.

Title: Re: Carlisle Game
Post by: suttonred on Sunday, November 22, 2009, 19:06:44
Yep, just back.  We looked pretty good for most of the game. Back four and Lucas solid as a rock, Ferry and Douglas ran the midfield. I dont think Kavanagh had a touch til around 70 minute mark. No one played badly, and we made Carlisle look poor. Macca was dangerous, as was JPM on the right. In fact several Carlisle fans after said our right hand side were awesome. Between us we said Ferry or Manky were MOM. Felt sorry for Revell, he was clean through 2nd half  and wellied it miles over, i swear i saw it land near Manchester this afternoon. Pitch was superb, they did a great job getting it fit, bet they wish they hadn't bothered. Charlie didn't do too much bar the goal, but it pretty much killed their support, and we never looked in danger of concedeing, was even confident last 5 mins we wouldn't concede. Slightly concerned Donkey hasn't been on, he may not have survived the 4 hour drinkathon back last night after our rather liquid afternoon!

Sorry was a bit tired, that should have said, he didn't really get another chance, but ran around a lot, held up the ball and linked well, certainly never looked as though he was non league a few weeks back.

Title: Re: Carlisle Game
Post by: suttonred on Monday, November 23, 2009, 10:24:38
Awake enough and had a bit of time to do a bit of a run down from Saturday.

Lucas 8- Solid and commanding never looked like conceding, only had one real save of note. As the defence was unpeneratable. They are really starting to look a solid unit. Felt a bit sorry for Smith being dropped, but everytime i see Lucas he looks quality.

Amankwaah 8. As Lucas, never gave Robson a sniff.

Lescinel 7. Kept Anyinsah quiet for the most part, got beat once early on, but then kept him further up the pitch out of harms way.

Greer 7. Usual solid self, won everything in the air.

Cuthbert 7. As GG, was a threat from set plays up front.

Douglas 7. The ringmaster.

Ferry 8. Played deeper than normal, but very calm, and brought the ball out well.

JPM 7. Solid performance, and linked well with Manky, had the right side tied up.

Macca.7. Had the beating of Harte every time, put some good crosses in.

Austin 7. Well taken goal, solid effort all round.

Paynter 6. Only had one real chance that the goalie saved well, worked hard.

For Carlisle Anyinsah looked useful but lechsinel as said kept him up the pitch where he couldn’t do any damage. Harte was good going forward, not so good at the back. Overall they were, lets say “off their game” and I’d rate them 4/10, with a solid 7/10 for us
