Title: Bloody Relieved!! Post by: Bogus Dave on Saturday, November 14, 2009, 19:55:45 I bought a bottle of wine earlier to celebrate making it through the day, and was dismayed to find it had a cork, not a screw top. It wasn't that bad, last time this situation arose i just used my front door key as a makeshift bottle opener - its length and girth serving me well in the past. However, i figure days of misuse has led to a weaker key, and during the unopening of the wine the key snapped in two. Disaster! I'd need to get a new key cut.
Then, for reasons i'm not entirely sure about, i tried to see if there would still be a way of using my front door with my key in two pieces. Can you see where this is going yet? Now i have half a front door key - the other half is in the door. If i had tried it on the outside i could have passed it off to the Landlord as the fault of the lock, which would probably have been believable. But no, i tried this on the inside, where you can operate the door fully well without the use of a key. Which makes me look a moron, as well as an idiot. Cue a frantic phone call to the landlord to explain. Except i told him i had broke the key trying to get in from the outside - a bare faced lie. After much deliberation, he tells me to right a note telling people to knock on the window of the poor young man whose room is next to the door should they want to get in. I felt very ashamed at this point. But wait, there's more!! Just as i was about to stick the note the door, i saw someone enter. From the outside. With their key!!!! I was gobsmacked, and a little relieved. I'd rather pay for a key than a door. So yeah, that was the story of my night. Its hardly the most extreme predicament i've ever gotten myself into, but the sense of reliefe i feel now is immense. And i managed to open the wine with some scissors!!! Happy days :) Title: Re: Bloody Relieved!! Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Saturday, November 14, 2009, 19:58:58 Ha how random. On the subject of keys and doors I nearly managed to lock myself out the other night. I was lucky I had the key to the padlock for the side gate to go through the back door.

Title: Re: Bloody Relieved!! Post by: Bogus Dave on Saturday, November 14, 2009, 20:04:20 That. Is. Awesome
I'd be far to scared to try it myself though Title: Re: Bloody Relieved!! Post by: Simon Pieman on Saturday, November 14, 2009, 20:04:30 Buying a bottle opener might be a good idea as well. And cheaper than a new key :) Title: Re: Bloody Relieved!! Post by: Bogus Dave on Saturday, November 14, 2009, 20:10:49 Thats a point. Anyone know how much a new key will cost / how long it takes? It's not an overly long process iirc
