What's the longest a blokes nails can be before he's considered odd or effeminate?

Due to the fact I hardly ever do any real work my nails are getting quite long. I usually bite them off at this point but have decided to keep them a while longer (They're very useful for nose/ear picking).

I wouldn't normally ask, but as this forum is becoming morgue-like I thought I'd try to inject some life into it with this absorbing, interesting and informative thread.

If i can see any nail overflow at the end of my finger I have to cut it off.

 I always think it should be up to one's ladyfriend, whether she likes the extra bit of finger, or prefers something smoother.

Hmm, interesting. Not the definitive answer I was after but thought provoking nontheless...

Agreed, personally I think anything beyond the fingertip is bent (for men).

How do you dislodge stubborn snot then?

If it's big and ripe enough to warrant picking, typically a quick nudge with the old index digit is sufficient to send it tumbling.

yuck yuck yuck - short as poss without being all picked and broken skinned?? men with long fingernails makes me do a bit of sick in my mouth - the worst is like blokes that have one long fingernail - like the sort of thing someone out of status quote might have???? OMG I feel ill just typing it

The only men that can pull off a long fingernail are pimps for snorting purposes.  Blokes that have long nails just looking awful and a bit bent.

That said I can't stand having my nails cut right to the limit and as a general rule once it starts creeping over the flesh line its trimmed back.

God I actually hate the men in that band - these are the main things I hate

One long fingernail
rats tail pony tail thing
White socks with black shoes
waistcoats

Mind seem to grow quicker than I would care, they get cut when I can find the nail clippers. Sometimes they're kept longer on one hand

i sometimes let mine grow just through sheer laziness, but i agree with herthab, theres nothing worse than needing a quick rummage in the ear or nose straight after a fresh nail cut, you feel the booger has defeated you, its like diving in a pool with your arms and legs tied up

I never bite them, I always clip them, then file them with an emery board thing.
1mm is the limit I would say, I probably do mine once a week.

I also trim my nasal hair regularly too.
Did you know that if you let your nasal hair grow for a whole lifetime, it would be approx one metre long.
Imagine that...WITH one long finger nail.

I don't file my nails - I throw them away after I've cut them.

Obviously not watching enough Swindon games.

My figure nails ussually get chewed away,  waiting to see if we can hold on for the 1 nil lead.

Biting is preferrable as you can fully concentrate on the telly during the process.  Stubborn snot is quite a fun project with no nails.

I have one bright purple nail after a car door incident a while back.  Its rather repulsive but I kind of like it.

Used to bite mine quite badly as a kid.  Then one day in my early 20s I decided I was going to stop.  I bought a pair of nail clippers...and as soon as my nails had a nice hard edge to them, I lost all desire to bite them.  Job done.

I think many nail biters, like me, bite their nails because they're trying to smooth them off.  Never works, of course.  You just keep biting and biting until there's nothing left and your fingers start to bleed.  Nail clippers.  All you'll need.  Brilliant.

Surely you can relax by now in the knowledge that it wont happen.
