Title: Andy Cryer
Post by: pauld on Monday, October 26, 2009, 11:47:11
was on talkSport this morning as the Lancashire Evening Telegraph's resident Blackburn expert, explaining how they've all got swine flu (and some other stuff). He was great. That's it, really  :bye:

Possibly a candidate for the least interesting post of all time.  :)

Has to be in the running for at least a top 5 place!

Yeah, maybe more Europa rather than Champion's League.  I was trying to remember who Cryer was.  Adver journos since Clive King, tend to be somewhat anonymous.

I think Cryer (if you'll excuse the pun) gets quite a bad press.  He was immense during the back end of the Diamandis era.  His predecessor (Ritson?) consistently towed the club line and didn't dare ask any awkward questions which, arguably, dragged out the Diamandis/Wills tenure.  But Cryer really turned the screw...made Diamandis/Wills etc squirm on a number of occasions.  I'd say he played a part in bringing the whole sorry saga to an end.  Not bad for a Bristol City fan.

For all the reasons cited above, I'm a Cryer fan, which is why I noticed when he popped up on the radio while driving to work. To be fair to Jon Ritson, his view was that he was a Sports journalist, not a politics/business correspondent so he tried to just stay out of anything off the pitch, rather than "toeing the line" per se. A not uncommon reaction among many local sports pages, so yes, that's precisely why Andy Cryer was excellent. As indeed was James Mc at the WDP.

I don't think Ritson had much to do with Diamandis hanging on.

He did used to put little Bristol City digs in there. He did look down at Swindon and in some of his articles it showed.
